Advantages: Great sound, good capacity, good battery life, easy to use Disadvantages: Larger and heavier then some MP3 players, not overly attractive
...mainly a review for the Creative Zen but I will include a basic specs list and description of each of the competitors to help you weigh things up. Of course this review assumes that you are interested in a 20 gig MP3 player and that you are willing to spend £150 or more. If not, then this review will probably not be of much use to you. WHAT IS AN MP3 PLAYER?
For the rest of this review, I will refer to technical terms to keep things a bit more brief, ... ...review proper. CREATIVE ZEN: YOU'VE GOT THE LOOK
The Zen is probably not the most attractive MP3 player there is. At least, not in my opinion. I do think that the ipod for example is a fair amount more attractive. That said, the Zen doesn't look too bad either. Basically it is white in colour (you can see the shape in the picture above) with silver slim buttons that run down each side and a smaller circular button in the middle, just below the screen. ...

...to the conclusion that the Creative Zen Touch with 20GB Hard Drive was the best value for money. So lets see if my conclusion was right or whether I'd bought a dud….
---First Impressions (The Packaging)---
Now if I was going by very first impressions I would say that the packaging was a bad start. The player wasn't packed in a nice stylish box, but was actually in that sealed plastic that needs to be hacked open with a pair of scissors. I personally ... ...lifespan. Once charged Creative claim the battery will last anything up to 32 hours, but I really would take this with a pinch of salt, as they only claim this life when using very low quality MP3s. Personally I think their 24 hour claim for 128kbps MP3s is much nearer the mark. My player is used for several hours a day, and only needs charging weekly, to me this means the battery life is exceptional and many hours longer than any of the competitors.

...and recently bought myself a Creative Zen Touch, on the advice of my ex-boyfriend who assured me that they were the best on the market. As I was determined to get anything other than an iPod, I agreed to try it out.
So what is my verdict?
Let's cover the basics of the Zen Touch. Creative has managed to secure itself a pretty good reputation in the MP3 field, and while Apple still reigns surpreme other companies such as Creative and IRiver are finally ... ...CD instead. There is some Creative Zen software you can install, but there is also Windows Media Player 10 whihc most people use instead. I found WMP easy to use, so I've stuck with that.
I have absolutely no problems with the sound quality or the volume or anything - in that respects the Zen Touch is an excellent machine. The sound is clear and sharp - in fact I've picked up background lyrics on songs I didn't even realise had background lyrics! ...

...multiple times. So, to the creative zen's credit, it is built like a tank and probably can sustain a lot more damage than other media players. Rest assured, I am much more careful with my ipod 80 gb, and have purchased a plastic case for it. Let me first go over the positives of this device:
It has a great battery life. Whilst not quite the 24 hours that the advertisements suggest, it will last well over 12, which is much better than the ipod.
... ...first time I bought a creative zen. I actually bought two, not one. The first one absolutely refused to transfer music and the software was really confusing, so I returned it for being defective and exchanged it for a new one. To my relief, I was able to transfer one thousand songs to it, but I had not selected my whole library (at the time, only 3500 songs) because I wanted to test it out. Well, this was a big mistake on my part, because it would ...

...prices, I went for the Creative Zen Touch. It's a good size (I know if I went for the Ipod Nano I'd sit on it an break it) though perhaps slightly on the bulky side. The sound quality is extremely good. Some of the songs are much quieter compared to others, but I think that's proabably more to do with my encoding than the player. ...most aspects I loved the Creative zen touch, it also had a lot to be desired. It didn't have a drive show up in my computer, you had to install creatives own software to access the files on the device. The Creative Zen touch is very solidly built, as in I can drop it and it will still work. I am ultra clumbsy and have let my zen touch slip through my fingers , about 6 times, and it has not scratched unlike the ipod would have done just sitting in my pocket, or been damaged in anyway.

The Creative Zen Touch is not an I-pod, but it's as close as you can get without buying the real thing! For people (inexplicably!) not in the know, the I-pod is the most commercially successful MP3 player ever. Advantages: Large Capacity, Good Quality, Nice Design, Excellent Price and Great Battery Life Disadvantages: Touch pad difficult to use, Nomad software is poor
I purchased a Creative Zen Touch from the internet a couple of months ago, and it has proved to be a great MP3 player. It has a nice design with a 'brushed metal' feel around the edges, and a smooth feel in the center. I purchased the 20GB version, which offers a huge capacity for storing music, and files as well.

[BATTERY]
The Creative Zen's main strong point is its large battery life of 24 hours stated continuous play, while the iPod has 8 hours stated battery life for the 3rd generation, and 10 hours stated for the 1st and 2nd generation. From personal experience I can say that I have managed about 20 hours continuous play with the Zen touch, which puts it way ahead of the iPod in this aspect.

...new Zen Touch.
Design
Creative finally got their act more or less together and made something that you are not ashamed to get out of your pocket. They tried to emulate iPod’s design a bit, notably going for a white look rather than the usual (and dare I say nerdy and ugly) aluminium look. It is very nice to touch, as you would expect from a device with Touch in it’s title. It’s slightly bulkier than an iPod yet it doesn’t feel as big and heavy ... ...is the fact that my friend has been using his Zen for a couple of weeks and he is not the most careful person in the world, yet there were no visible scratches on the device, leading me to conclude that it doesn’t scratch nearly as easy as an iPod.

Advantages: holds lots of songs, chunky, takes a beating Disadvantages: too big for little hands, blue screen is rubbish, touchpad breaks
APPEARANCE
The creative zen touch comes in white, there are no other choices of colours, but the silver trim on the back and border make it look stylish enough to compensate.
the blue screen really adds a nice splash of colour to it.
