Mr & Mrs Scampi have fun up against the wall.

Advantages: Does what it says on the tin.
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest

Having recently moved into a new house Scampi is having a bit of a decorating frenzy at the moment, under the watchful eye of Mrs Scampi. First on the agenda was the living room which was still it's original magnolia colour as painted by Wimpey some 4 years ago when the house was first built. (the previous owner had declined the decorating option). Now some of you may think reading a paint review is as exciting as watching the stuff dry, and you'd ...
...it could help any of you Ciaoers who suffer from insomnia. Anyway enough of the pre-amble and on with the op. THE PRODUCT I USED Being a decorator who wants maximum effect in minimum time from minimum effort I opted for Crown's 'Solo' One Coat Matt Emulsion, and the colour Mrs Scampi chose was 'cream silk', which is a kind of rich dark creamy colour (that's the best way I can think of describing it). This product claims to be a 'one coat ' product ...

Advantages: Easy to apply. Nice smooth finish
Disadvantages: Really smelly. Doesn't cover in one coat as it claims.

...paint I hadn’t noticed before. Crown Solo ‘One Coat Satin’. (Pure Brilliant White) “A durable one coat satin finish for interior wood and metal”, it says on the tin. “Quick and easy to use” and “ No undercoat required”. So being the lazy beggar that I am, the hand immediately reached for the back pocket, and €20.57 went over the counter for a large 2.5 litre tin. A further €5 got ...
...proving that, I wonder?!) And Crown also reserves the right to send out someone to actually inspect your work before making any refund. This is as far as the ‘mad cabbie’ took this, as let’s be honest, who’s going to be bothered going to all that trouble and hassle for the sake of €20. And especially since I was actually delighted with the finished paint job once I had applied the required second coat. One last little ...

If you can, go into your nearest B&Q or Do It All, and have a look at the actual tins, or buy a Matchpot! I hope that this has been of some use. Thank you for reading. Kerry xx ...

...escape routes. We chose Crown Silk Emulsion in a very nice shade called Powder Blue, very light and yet extremely colourful and better on the wall than the little tile on the tin led us to believe, PERFICK... Now many people (the father in law included) who tell you to water paint down before applying it on the basis that it goes further and goes on quicker, but I've found that to be the road to a very messed up carpet when you start spraying drips ...

Dont just paint it - suede it.

Advantages: Warm, soft effect that looks modern and interesting.
Disadvantages: Can only use a paintbrush and getting it on the skiting board.

This exquisite new idea from Crown is truly astounding We have just redecorated the front room. For a little difference, having just smooth plastered the walls, and on wanting a modern effect with painting over it instead of wallpapering, we chose this new product that Crown has just released. It only comes in a range of 12 colours at the moment, so a little disadvantageous, but the colours are quite common colours - particularly as its a modern ...
...beiges, including a terracota and pastels. What it is about this particular paint is that it is textured. It contains very small granules of what appears to be a sand like debris. On applying to your walls you can only use a paint brush, not a roller as it does not promote the effect when dry. I will explain to you why in a moment. But for the less motivated person, you might want to get some help as this can be a tedious job, but for the more patient ...

Disadvantages: Sticky, smelly, colourful, wet.

...for you. It's Paint. Crown Paint. Specifically, Crown Matt Emulsion Pale Green (I forget the silly name of the colour) Paint. It comes in a metal tin with a handy carry handle. You will need an implement called a Brush (not included, all brushes are compatable, not just crown ones) or a roller (a sort of sponge on a revolving stick), for only £17.95 you can get 5 litres in any colour of the rainbow (enough to cover a good sized room with two coats) ...
...has been around for decades, Crown has not yet introduced one onto the market. Once applied Paint stains the wall, ceiling (carpet, pet, child, furniture, television) just the colour you wanted, then upon drying darkens to a colour you don't want quite so much but are now stuck with. To avoid staining carpets and furniture you will need to put newspaper or sheeting (also not included) down to protect things. Trying to paint a ceiling will use muscles ...

Crown the king of paints

Advantages: Quality product that does a professional job
Disadvantages: More expensive than normal paint although I think it's worth it

...around at the moment is CROWN Solo.It carries a guarentee with it that it will cover in 1 coat and that is exactly what it does. Not only does it cover in one coat but it is easy to use and gives a wonderful finish. It is available in a range of sizes and colours and can be purchased at all of the aforementioned DIY shops. Crown "Indicoat" Brilliant White Emulsion

Advantages: Paint on pink - dries white..see easily where u have painted
Disadvantages: Does not really cover that well - a bit thin! Expensive

...a new product to me. Crown Indicoat brilliant white emulsion. I chose the Matt one. (Also available in Silk) I have used competitors products which turned out better than this one. The Indicoat product is a pale pink emulsion. The idea is that you paint it onto old, already white ceilings / walls and you immediately see where you have painted (Pink on white). This is a great idea for anyone who struggles with eyesight but equally good for anyone ...
...The downsides of the Crown Indicoat are, I found to be its coverage and its price. It is quite a thin product (I consider it too thin) so it does not particularly cover very well. You then have to apply more coats just expanding the time of the job. Nobody wants to do things that are unnecessary. I have found competitors paints to be a thicker consistency and therefore cover so much better. This by no means is a professional tip, but I use this ...

it does what is says on the tin

Advantages: saves time and money
Disadvantages: limited range of colours

...I choose one of the Crown SOLO gloss colours. These come in a range of colours and whilst the choice is not vast, I easily found one that I liked and was happy with. The deep blue we decided upon is great. The colour in the can is very similar to the colour in the tin!!! The tins are 750 MLS each and cost under seven pounds each. The main feature for me is that it was so thick it was easy to put on. It coloured evenly and smoothly and did not have ...

Read This to avoid Painting Disappointment

Advantages: nice colours
Disadvantages: 3 coats needed!!!

Like many people, I expect crown paints to be the best - they have a great reputation based on their name - but what are they "really" like. Well, my comments are based on hard found experience these past few weeks as I struggle to paint my newly bought home from top to bottom! I swept through their colour charts and eagerly chose the matt emulsion colours. The paint DOES VARY according to the colour being applied!! I applied "china cup" - a sort ...
...So, be warned, crown paint "can" be very good - but it depends on the colour. Given the expense of the paint, I can't recommend them - but I do like the final finish - it is such a shame it is taking so looooong to achive a result. ...

Express the room designer in you

Advantages: Easy to apply brushes just wash out in water
Disadvantages: I did not find any

Whislt decorating we were looking for something a little different without be overly expensive. This paint was quite a surprise. The end result looks luxurious and leaves the room with a warm cozy feeling. We have used it on the accent wall only, as all over I think it would be too much. The colour we chose was soft and subtle plum, which is a deep rich colour and gives the room texture. It is so easy to apply. You brush it on with criss cross random ...
...of hours between coats. You do not use rollers or pads as you would not get the same effect. The end result almost looks like rag rolling but because of the rich colour it looks so much better. Ther brushes are easy to wash out afterwards aswell. We painted ours on newly plastered walls, but as it has a very fine sand in it so I would think it would be great at covering the not so perfect wall. Peoples reaction to this paint has been great, so if ...

Crown solo one coat emulsion rocks

Advantages: Covers in one coat - it really does
Disadvantages: Pretty standard colours

...more impressed and amazed that Crown Solo really does cover in one coat. The double cream consistency goes on quickly and thickly and dries within a few hours (2-4) to a vibrant chalky wall covering. We used 'Purple Heart' this time (we have used a cornflower blue before) and are really pleased with the coverage (and cost) of this paint for the play area of the kids' room - the colour's delightful and the effect is better than we had hoped. In comparison ...
...in the other room, the Crown went on like a dream and really was 'Breatheasy' as they say on the label (again, unlike the fumey period stuff). It costs about £11.98 from B&Q - whereas the 1826 cost about nineteen quid - and we used so much less paint than we'd anticipated - we bought two tins and only used three quarters of one (luckily B&Q take unopened paint back with a receipt) whereas the dearer stuff (in a similar sized room) took two tins ...

Advantages: looks great
Disadvantages: needs 2 coats instead of 1.

I have used lots of different paints in my time."we have kids and dogs".so we are always having to pait, due to our walls getting dirty. We did out front room out and the wife went for some paint from B&Q and came back with this suede paint?, it was £22.50 a tin. I thought what has she bought now, so when i had to "do the painting" . When i was putting it on, the paint looked weird and needed thoroughly stirring, otherwise it will go on all streaky, ...
...to make the suede effect". Once painted on the wall it seemed streaky and needed doing again after it had dried"even though on the tin it said it only needed to be one coat. I wasnt happy with just the one coat, so i gave it another coat"had to buy another tin" cost for 2 tins 22.50 x 2 = £45, i thought this is expensive for a bit of paint. After i had put on the 2nd coat, the paints effect on the wall was looking great , and it acc. looks like ...
