Advantages Advantages Interesting, varied job, better pay than sales assistants...

Disadvantages Disadvantages Customers and sometimes other staff members

I would imagine that any business that has customers will have some sort of customer service area, whether or not they call it that. Since I worked in retail related customer service for my first 2 years at uni, that’s the area on which this is based. Anyway, a typical working day in the life of, well, me. 8.50 am : Arrival + Set up Arrive at work, sign in, dump my bags and then go up to my department. Open up the tills and check we have all the temporary cards we’ll need, for the next few hours at least. We can only have a certain number on the department at any one time for ... more

Advantages Advantages Good pay for my age, meet lots of new people, not to stressful

Disadvantages Disadvantages Don't think there is any, I love it!

I got the job today as a customer adviser at a building society! I'm only 17 and don't know the first thing about Bonds, Shares, Investing etc so I am sort of worried! I'm thrilled. I came across this topic on ciao while browsing around and thought I'd give it a go at letting people know what's involved in becoming a customer adviser, what sort of works involved, what the job entails, all about the training and if it's all it's cracked up to be. This review will be based on my experience. Obviously I won't be completing it all in one go as I've only just got the job today and not yet started ... more

Advantages Advantages Pay is OK, always something to do, good benefits

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Annoying customers

OK this is a review about a customer service assistant BUT I'm also generally reviewing working for a railway as it isn't on here and as it's quite a popular employment I will review that too...! Being a customer service assistant/advisor CAN be rewarding. It's good to know that you can provide helpful information to customers and it's nice when they go off happy and grateful saying how helpful you are. If your in an office like me as a CSA there is alwyas plenty to do so your day never goes by slowly. There is serving customers which is a big part of the job but there's the paperwork ... more

Advantages Advantages Career progression, decent pay

Disadvantages Disadvantages Have to deal with rude customers!

For almost two years I was a Customer Service Adviser at top UK fashion store, Dorothy Perkins. I was in sixth form at the time, so only did a few days a week, but feel that my length of stay in that employment taught me exactly what working as a customer adviser is about. The most important thing you need to do is in the title of the job: Customer Service! It's important to keep the customer happy, and if that is out of your control, to calm them down and give them what they want. The amount of times I had a customer who demanded a refund because the dress they purchased didn't fit, who were ... more
