Advantages Advantages Makes Non-Cyclists Think. Free Event. Only ONE Sock Required.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not Funny In Poor Weather. Not For the Prudish. Smacks of Sensationalism

You have seen the title and the category and are probably already wondering how I can possibly keep a review of this specific event "On Topic". Well hopefully, if I get the tone of my review right, you will come to the conclusion that in regards to cycling, that there could be little more "On Topic" than this particular protest, unconventional as it may be. I have been in two minds about writing this particular review since the day BEFORE attending this event. Obviously, without even witnessing the Brighton "round" of The World Naked Bike Ride I had some pre-conceived ideas of: a) What this ... more

Advantages Advantages Helps you live longer

Disadvantages Disadvantages ...as long as you don't go and get yourself killed.

DOES MY BUM LOOK BIG IN THESE SHORTS? I guess this is not so much of a rant on behalf of cyclists, as a plea for some understanding in all directions. Whenever I mention that I'm a cyclist, the first thing a large number of motorists say to me is, "I suppose you're another one of those ba*****s that ride through red lights and onto pavements when it suits them". They'll then go on to give me a blow by blow account of how they had to put the mobile down to complain. Of course, telling them that I TEACH safer cycling and wouldn't dream of jumping a red light cuts no ice - I'm set in their mind ... more

    Advantages Advantages Keeps you fit

Disadvantages Disadvantages makes your legs ache

I see this review and thought this is one for me because I ahve been cycling all my life. The first bike I remember having was a metallic orange chopper. Some of you might know what a chopper is especially as they have just made a comeback. A chopper was a laid back bike with handle bars that turn in towards the elongated seat. The gears were like what you'd expect to find in an automatic car with a red handle to make it easy to locate. This bike lasted me for years, then when I was about 12 years old my grandad bought me a limited edition Peugeot Touring racer. This bike changed my life in a ... more

Advantages Advantages General design and comfort

Disadvantages Disadvantages None came to mind

I've got a confession to make, this review isn't of the eclipse helmet but of its alternative the "Mojave" incarnation of Giro's helmets. Am I doing this to get more reads? No, in fact I'm not expecting very many because its a pretty specialised product but reads arn't why I'm writing this. I'm writing because I have an opinion on something that I hope at least one person will find useful. Besides I had to write my review here because it didn't have the mojave helmet when I tried a search. I'm not much of a bike rider, I hadn't ridden my bike ( apart from the odd trip to the shop etc ) for ... more

Advantages Advantages A literal and legitimate high

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Returning to earth

I used to be afraid of heights. To cope as a child I would practice my own aversion therapy, climbing trees with my chums as a way to prove myself to myself. Over time the therapy took hold and I came to enjoy the exhiliration of height - graduating from trees to hilltops offering miles distant vistas. And even in the mundanity of daily life a simple pleasure could be exacted - a pleasure I had always thought could only be achieved with motor vehicular access. The joy of the multi-storey car park. Driving through one such concrete edifice near my home I noticed cycle racks on the bottom level ... more

Advantages Advantages Frame, construction, value, you name it - it's got it..

Disadvantages Disadvantages probably seems an oldie and unfashionable in these days of FS bikes.

A quick intro here - the CB Spectre is a 7005 Aluminium rigid framed mountain bike, which is in fact manufactured by Falcon Cycles. The Spectre's 7005 Alu frame is described as a '7005 Tubeset', which usually refers to most of the main construction being of 7005 tubing, which is lightweight and is reputed to share most, if not all, of the strength and rigidty features of a good medium-quality steel frame, and hence is lighter than the steel, but not quite as light as more expensive aluminum alloy construction. In the case of the CB, it uses a frame geometry that gives a kind of strange look ... more

Advantages Advantages If you're careful you may end up with a new best friend

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's a minefield out there. Be careful!

Moutain bikes (MTBs) are the most common sort of bicycle sold in the UK these days, very few of the new bikes sold are road bikes, tourers or hybrids. So, what's for you? First of all, let's look at the alternatives: Road Bikes: Just for leg-shaving weirdos? Road bikes are the sort of thing you'd see on the Tour de France, with the bent handlebars. They have larger wheels than MTBs and skinnier tyres with a less agressive tread pattern since they aren't designed for mud plugging. Comfort is somewhat sacrificed in the name of speed, but if you're going to be going largish distances on tarmac ... more

Advantages Advantages A great fun way to get out and about!

Disadvantages Disadvantages You can really hurt yourself ! ! !

Mountain biking or MTB for short is a great sport, but it can be very dangerous. This review should tell you every thing you need to know. Picking the right bike: -------------------------- You will obviously need a nice looking bike but it has to be right for you. First of all you will have to ask yourself two questions. 1. What are you going to use your bike for? There are five types of mountain biking: . DIRT JUMPING (DJ) . CROSS COUNTRY/MOUNTAIN CROSS (MX) . STREET . DOWNHILL (DH) . RACING All of these are great fun but they are dangerous. All require a technique and a lot of practice ... more

Advantages Advantages Adrenalin rush, freeky scary

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Bloody tiring!

Mountain biking (day 2 of multi activity hol - see seperate op) is something I'd done before but never on a half decent bike with suspension and good brakes!! You'll be amazed at the difference if you haven't got a bike with the above. It's hard going and you need to be really fit to go any great distance as you are just plain knackered if you go uphill for any length of time. Use the really low gears but try and maintain a reasonable momentum and don't stop or you are in trouble. Use a high gear going down - you normally don't need to peddle but this high gear is better if you do. Biking in ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast wearing gears, good brakes

    Disadvantages Disadvantages average fron forks

The 8000 comes stock with an all LX/XT mix, and a system 3 front hub. It also has a Judy (I admit to not knowing which one, because I swapped for a Manitou Pro-C immediatly after I got it). I also swithed the stock clipless peadals for Shimano M-747's, which have performed wonferfully. Over all this is the best hardtail bike I have ever owned, I had some troubles with the LX crank, the chainrigs seem to wear way to fast, but thats about it. It weighs around 24 pounds, does awesome on the climbs and the Avid brakes work really really well on the downhill. For me, this is hte ultimiate raceing ... more
