Quick review of DVLA Tax Disc Online service

Should be a better way to renew however I am unable to and the reason, according to my insurance company, eSure, is that my insurance runs out at the same time as my tax. eSure initially said that my details would be uploaded to the DVLA were within 30mins of them renewing my insurance. I tried renewing my tax the day after I renewed my insurance but it failed because the DVLA could not find valid insuance for my car! I rang eSure the next day and they said IF the insurance details didn't go through they had 7 days (by law they said) to update and that they couldn't confirm if the details had been updated or not. ...

Quick review of DVLA Tax Disc Online service

I had a problem - I couldn't find my MOT certificate and they (DVLA) couldn't find my insurance. I couldn't speak to anyone, email anyone, get the problem resolved or any further information. I tried by phone, spent some time waiting for someone to answer, explained the situration and then got put back into the automated system again. Any online system has to have a communication channel! ...

tax the easy way

Advantages: quick no waiting in queues
Disadvantages: none

...must say though that the DVLA have got onto a good idea here, renewing online.....YES, no more standing in the dreaded post office queue for an hour at the same time as everyone else getting their tax. So how does it work, well first wait for your reminder to pop thrrough the post which is usually 14 days before renewal and on the right hand side of the leeter in big bold black writting is "Relicense or SORN online or by phone and a 16 digit refernce ...
...go to the local post office if you wish and details are on the form telling you what to do. The website itself was very easy to navigate : www.direct.gov.uk/taxdisc takes you straight to where you need to be. You enter the reference number in and hayho your details come up. You confirm your car details are correct then it proceeds to check if you have a valid MOT and insurance which only takes literally a few seconds. Then the worst part comes....Payment. ...

DVLA easy licencing made me cry

Advantages: no need to find document you know you have somewhere
Disadvantages: they didn't tell me I still had to find my Registration Certificate

Fantastic Service. Save's having to root around for you MOT certificate and Insurance documents, that you're sure you filed in the dining room cabinet with the posh cutlery at some point last christmas because, well.... I'm not going to need them for another year. I am going through the process of sorting out my Tax right now and there is only one slight issue (which is of course easily rectified) which is that it says in bold writing 'ALL YOU NEED ...
...is only when you start the process of ordering the tax disc that it asks you for the reference number on your Registration Document. Okay, I know you're all going to start shouting at me that of course I'd need the Registration Document to hand in order to complete it. But the problem is, is that my registration certificate is filed in the dining room cabinet along with the posh cutlery that I tidied away at some point last christmas because, well.... ...

Road tax the evils of the all knowing computer

Advantages: simple and quick
Disadvantages: doesnt alway work out that way

...my old workmates and the DVLA themselves I decided it was time to tell other people about the terrible service I have recieved from the DVLA. As happens to many people I didn't have chance to go to the Post Office when my road tax was coming up for renewal, so Iogged on and used their website. The process itself is simple, you need the 16 digit reference they send you through the post, the car must also be insured and have a valid new style MOT. ...
...for you at your local DVLA office if thats any good. But don't use the car on public highways' Well actually thats no good to me what so ever. I live in a village 25 miles from the nearest supermarket and the nearest DVLA office is in Maidstone, and of couse is closed at the weekends which would be the only time I could possibly go to collect it,and even if I could go during the day the public transport wouldn't get me back in time for work. So I ...

Taxing your vehicle the easy way

Advantages: Quick, easy all you need to do is pay!
Disadvantages: All your paperwork needs to be in order

...relicense online (or tell the DVLA that your vehicle is off the road). Not only do they make it clear that you can use this service they also give you, in very bold print, the reference number you need to use in order to do that. They list the web address for you and a telephone number to use if you want to do it by phone. You can use the service from the 15th day of the month in which your current licence expires and can pay by credit or debit ...
...you want to use your credit card! The big advantage from my point of view is that I don't have to make my way to the Post Office and queue up with everyone else waiting to renew their tax disc at the end of February. To be honest it is probably the only time I go into a Post Office and it just isn't convenient as I live in a rural are and we lost our Post Office years ago. So how easy is it to do? I must congratulate the DVLC on this one - it really ...
