Advantages Advantages reasonable price, only insurance and road tax to pay after the first year.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Insurance and road tax only included for first year

When my 10 year old Nissan Sunny was needing to be replaced (MOT, insurance and automobile rescue almost expired, service and repairs required) I looked around for a second – hand car, I also had a look in a Daewoo garage and saw the 3 door Lanos 1.4S for £7999, which I believed was out of my price range, however on discussion with a showroom assistant (“they don’t have salesmen”), I was offered the Lanos at a price I thought I could afford, with a special offer of 1 years free insurance and cut price purchase scheme. Delivery was scheduled on the day after the MOT ... more

Advantages Advantages Free servicing, small deposit, excellent city car

Disadvantages Disadvantages Arranging your own insurance for courtesy cars

After much hunting around used car dealers and enquiries about car loans, I spotted an ad in the paper advertising the new Daewoo Matiz and the excellent deals that Daewoo offer. So, my husband and I went along to our nearest outlet and found the staff to be extremely helpful. We were taken for a test drive in the Matiz, and once we started to look at the prices of the Lanos, we asked to test drive it too. It only took us 24 hours to make up our minds to buy one, and we went back and placed our order the next day. Deposits can be as little or as much as you want, ours was only £700, and we're ... more

Advantages Advantages Never fails to start

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bits fall off on a regular basis

I bought my Lanos in march 1998. She never fails to start in the morning and thats great. But ask me would I have another when this has had it's lot then the answer would have to be a resounding NO! Within the first 12 months I have had replaced, 1 dashboard-cracked,2 badges-stolen, 2 registration plates-fell off on a very hot day because the glue melted, 2 radios-faulty,2 speakers-faulty, 1 hatch lock-faulty,1 window winder-fell off. I could go on but by now you probably think I am lying, believe me I am not. I have tried to sell it but the depreciation was very scary (some 65% of what I ... more

This car was recommended to me by a friend, although I haven’t bought it I have driven around in it enough To get hooked. From the start I was blown away by the superb interior , sleek design, drivability and crystal clear sound from the radio, although, some of the creature comforts could do with improveing I still think that this state of the art car has earned my approval, with enough features to keep me occupied, I would definitely recommend this car to any one of any preference, and as soon as I have saved up the money to buy it I’ll be in the shops buying it myself ... more

    Advantages Advantages None

Disadvantages Disadvantages Terrible build quality. Awful customer service.

I have had a Lanos 1.4 SE for just under 3 years now on a Motability contract. Thank heavens I didn't use my own money to pay for it! I have driven cars for 30 years and this is the worst vehicle I have ever owned! The average fuel consumption (reasonable mix of urban and long range driving) is around 20 to the gallon! The ABS works when it feels like it and has an interesting habit of releasing the brakes entirely if an emergency stop is attempted. The carpets in the car split after 7 days and I was informed by Daewoo that this was driver abuse (after a WEEK?!!)The syteering pulls to the left ... more

    Advantages Advantages Service package, reliability

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy

I've owned our Lanos for just under three years now, and apart from the fact that people keep driving into it we can't fault it. If you're looking for a high spec, performance car - this isn't it. What it is is good honest 'old fashioned' reliable transport. There's room enough for four adults (or five smaller ones). The hatch is pretty spacious. My only gripe is perhaps the road & wind noise which is greater than one expects in this day & age. Economy is great - around town we seem to be getting about 35 mpg. Where Daewoo do score over other dealers is in the servicing package, which is ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to run, reliable, comfortable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Stereo is not great - eats lots of tapes!

I bought my Daewoo Lanos in April 2003 after finally trading in my unreliable and frankly dying Peugeot 205. I was looking for a car that would not let me down - would start every morning, not overheat in traffic jams and not cover me with water from leaky windows and sunroof. (Ah, such fond memories of my old Peugeot!) I was lucky enough to find a V Reg Lanos 1.4 for £3000 (with part-exchange for my old car). I was amazed that I could afford such a relatively new car for the money as well as one with so many safety features and extras (ABS brakes, double airbags, power steering). The car is ... more

Advantages Advantages Great, reliable and economic car

Disadvantages Disadvantages No longer in production

Yeah, the daewoo Lanos is a great small car.... ....or so you think. You see these cars aren't actually that small. I've had mine since 1999 and it is still serving me well. I am a musician, and a percussionist at that, so I have racked up about 50,000 to and from gigs in the last 3 years. However, I have never had to utilise the tow bracket on my daewoo. Why? Because everything fits in just fine. Admittedly things would be a little more difficult if you had the 3 door rather than the 5 but they are spacious cars. Just for an extreme example, I have had My Drum Kit (Bass drum, snare, 2 toms ... more

    Advantages Advantages price and service

    Disadvantages Disadvantages residual value

Since nobody seems to have an opinion on this car I felt the need to oblige. No, I do not own one but have the use of one quite often since it is the courtesy car usually provided by Daewoo. It is small and has a flimsy feel has a modicum of comfort. However, it is competively priced and should come into consideration if it is the size for you and your pocket. If you are unfamiliar with Daewoo don't be shy. I was to start with but took the plunge 3 years ago with an ESPERO. With daewoo cars you do save money up front and get very good specs which does make them value for money. However, do not ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to fix yourself!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages poor quality!

the cars handling is unbelievable. it cant go round corners at speed it under steers. iv had everything fall off the radio doesn't work my heating gets stuck on full heat it doesn't blow air by the windscreen so it fogs up on a regular basis. the paint chips far too easily. the rear window is pretty high so it makes it difficult to park. the gear ratio is very surprising, the car from stationary to first into second takes less than two seconds which gets very tedious. it doesnt like going up any incline in 5th gear as the car will start to loose speed as it only has 84.4 BHP when its new ... more
