A Korean Cracker

Advantages: Lot of car for the money
Disadvantages: Not a lot of prestige

...the market, the Korean built Daewoo Nubira competes favourably on price and specification with both its Japanese and European cousins. There are four cars in the range, the 1.6 S.E. and the 2.0 C.D.X. saloons, and the estate versions of the same. All of the Nubira’s similarly-engined competitors are much more expensive. Its main opposition would be the Vectra, Mondeo, Primera, and Avensis, but it is significantly cheaper than them all. ~ ...
...~ ~ The Daewoo Nubira has a lot going for it, especially its exceptional price and high specification levels. At just over £15,000 for either the saloon or the estate, it offers more for less, compared to most of its familiar opposition. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ ~ This is a review I wrote last year (2000) to test the suitability of the Nubira as a suitable taxi vehicle here in Dublin. While it is a good car, it has to be said that it hasn't ...

DAEWOO FROM GRAYS OF SITTINGBOURNE

Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: Image

I purchased my 2.0L Daewoo from Grays of Sittingbourne. I was I was a bit sceptical about buying a Daewoo, but was impressed after the test drive and bought it. The car is economical for a 2.0L, nippy, comfortable for a family of 4, has a big boot, two air bags, air conditioning radio cassette. The seats are covered in an attractive cloth that cleans easily. There was an eighteen month warranty left on the car. Since I got it there have been no ...

Nubira serviced at Guildford

Advantages: Sevicing, lots of equipment
Disadvantages: No little ligth to show where the ignition key goes

...One advantage of the Daewoo network is that you can go along to any service centre and they can access all the records of your cars history on line. My car has bee mainly serviced at the Guildford centre, originally at Halfords but lately in a new custom built showroom. Whilst the quality of the servicing has been great, you do need to book in advance to get the promised "we'll pick it up and leave you a car while we've got it" service. Incidentally ...
...be desired at times, parts have 'forgotten' to be ordered and they have been by turns rude, dismissive and patronising which is not quite in keeping with the Daewoo image. Possibly this is due to employees recruited from traditional car firms bringing their bad habits with them? ...

My experience with the Nubira

Advantages: cheap, good spec, value for money
Disadvantages: scarce parts, build quality

Had my Daewoo Nubira estate for 4 ½ years now and have been happy with it until recently. Starting to find a lot of niggly things going wrong with it and parts becoming hard to come by. Problems suffered include: • Freezing handbrake in winter. This started during the first year and is apparently a common fault with Daewoos. Now during the extremely cold weather I leave it in gear with no handbrake on….it’s ok it’s parked in my driveway ! • Suspension ...
...but had no response from Daewoo (now GM Daewoo). All they say is it must be lost and have to go through the same procedure again to get a new one done. Now that GM have taken them over they say the nearest inspection station is in Rotherham or Rochdale, But I live in Leeds so it’s a bit far to trek ! • Now that the cold weathers here the car is suffering condensation inside the car. So much so that I have to scrape the inside windscreen as much ...
