    Advantages Advantages Towing capacity.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive parts.

I bought my Fourtrak to enable me to safely tow a horse trailer and it would also be my everyday driving vehicle. I had deliberated for years over whether to buy a towing vehicle or whether to buy a lorry to transport my horses and keep my car. Eventually I decided that I would buy a horse trailer so I would need something suitable to tow it with and sell the car. As my main reason for the purchase was for towing, my decision was based around this foremost. Towing Capacity. The Daihatsu Fourtrak is able to tow 3.5 tonne which is the maximum allowed. I wanted to tow a horse trailer which weighs ... more

Advantages Advantages Extremely tough, great workhorse

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Comfort over 60mph

Some of you may think im confusing myself here and others may think I'm just telling porkies, but trust me, the Daihatsu Fourtrak Pickup does exist, although it is very rare. I think it's official model designation was the Daihatsu F70 Rocky or something like that. I've only ever seen two apart from my Dad's one, which is a shame because they're as solid a workhorse as you could possibly want. Single cab, 2.8 litre fuel injected diesel with selectable 4x4 makes for excellent towing and load carrying, while in 2wd mode it could cruise comfortably at 60-65mph. We bought our F-reg machine from ... more

Advantages Advantages 2 or 4 wheel drive

    Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive servicing

We purchased the Fourtrak to tow our caravan and for its looks as I feel it is good looking chunky and solid. The Fourtrak is ideal for towing our caravan weighing approx. 1100 kilo, fuel consumption while towing is 22 mpg, solo it does 26/28 mpg, solo on a run it does 33/35 mpg. Servicing on our 94 (M reg) model is a little expensive needing an oil change every 3000 mile plus a service every 6000 mile. Interior of the car is only average and is let down by cheap thin carpet, seats are comfy and give good support, access to rear seats is restricted being a two door car, large door at rear ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliable, cheap and easy to maintain, fun to drive.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Petrol consumption is expensive.

I was given my 1988 fourtrak by a friend who was going to scrap it. I spent around £600 on having a new swivel bearing fitted, new rear leaf springs, some of the bushes, and a few other minor things, and it got through it's M.O.T. This year it cost £60 to get through its M.O.T. for a new fuel line. It is very cheap and easy to fix even if you have a very basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance, and if you don't mind getting your hands dirty. I have had my Daihatsu fo a year and a half now and have only had to call the AA out twice, both times due to my own stupitidy, not for any breakdown (out ... more
