Advantages: Great action Disadvantages: Could make you paranoid
I first read this novel about four years ago and remembered that I could not put it down, so when I was clearing out books to sell on Ebay I thought I’d read it again as I could not remember the exact ending.
*THE STORYLINE*
The novel is centred on the main character, Spencer Grant, and his adorable dog, Rocky. Grant is a loner and from the first chapter there are clues to his obvious torment of things in his past. A chance encounter with a waitress ... ...hope of a new life, but all is shattered when on his return visit to her, he finds she has fled.
Curiosity leads him deep into her world, with false names and a life on the run, although who she is running from is unclear to him. He endeavours to find this mysterious woman. Eventually, he learns she is being chased by an unknown agency for the information she possesses, Grant knows he must help her, as the same people are now chasing him.
*MY OPINION*

Dark Rivers of the Heart" is one of Koontz' best books to date. Most of the story centres around the protagonist, Spencer Grant's, efforts to locate a mysterious woman named Valerie Keene and their attempts to evade capture/death by a psychotic government agent working for an extremely corrupt First Deputy Attorney General. There's a great deal of tension and suspense every time the two are located by the government, and some of the chase scenes ... ...is a loner with a troubled past. His past adds some mystery to the story, and it is gradually revealed over the later parts of the novel. Also, Valerie Keene is one of the best heroines Koontz has created. She's smart, witty, tough, and resourceful, and she adds much to the story. What scared me about this book was how much power the government is portrayed as having in our society. The agents use high-tech, sophisticated technology such as an EPA ...

Advantages: Very hard to put down Disadvantages: none at all
I have read a lot of Dean Koontz books and i love them all. When reading "Dark Rivers of the Heart" it's amazing how quickly and completely i was pulled into the book, the writing itself was fantastic as if every word was designed for the biggest impact it could give, leaving you eager for the next line. When it comes to the charactors i don't think i've read of a better anti-hero, someone who wants to stay away from the rest of the world, but can't ... ...on so many levels and although i knew it was only a book, i couldn't help but think how nice it would be to meet this man and help him in any way i could. I have to admit though the charactor i was most drawn to was the dog, as he had such a personality and was written so well. Any book that Dean Koontz writes is sure to please and this book is no exception, it has everything: the bad guy that you love to hate and the hero and heroin that you want ...

I got this book and it had ablack cover and it was big and thick (about 800 pages). I started reading it , and had read half the book before I put it down. The scond half was just as gripping.
Koontz output is prodious and almost alway very high quality. He seldom produces waffle and therefore keeps the reader on a very tight leash. His writing is formulaic in that it deals with conspiracy and threats from large , shady organizations , with a few ...
