Advantages Advantages skillful, fast and able

Disadvantages Disadvantages a little lacking in pace or aggression to pass backmarkers

Born in Twynholm in Scotland, Coulthard began his driving career at 11/12 (1983), as most modern day drivers, in karts and was hugely sucessful, winning the Scottish Junior title in 1985 & the Scottish Open in 1988. His graduation to single seater racers followed in `89 with a debut championship in the Formula Ford 1600 junior class. This saw him win the first McLaren/Autosport Young Driver of the Year prize and a chance to run in a Formula One car. The following three years spurred on a swift rise through the junior formulae, 4th in the GM Euroseries (Formula Vauxhall) in 1990 and in 1991 ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages questionable instinct

Congratulations go out to David Coulthard for a lucky if not deserved win on Sunday. The Brazilian Grand Prix was his 10th win yet it seems a lot more. Recently, MacClaren team dominance has been lead by his team mate, Mika Hakkinen. This was demonstrated with two championship victories while Coulthard had to ride shotgun for the entire season. While unfair, it seems the way that most successful teams work today. This season the shoe is most definitely on the other foot. With Hakkinen scoring a single point from the first 3 races and David scoring 20, it may prove to be David's season. At last ... more

Advantages Advantages Always is the second driver

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't drive on the edge without falling off

When will he learn to stop making himself sound so stupid? I have just read an article in which David is once again hyping up his championship credentials for next year. Ron Dennis needs to inform David that before he can talk of winning a championship he needs to beat not only Michael Schumacher but also his teammate. I hold no reservations that had Hakkinen’s car been up to scratch in the reliability department he would have pushed Michael and with him obliterated David. I also firmly believe that David needs to be cautious of his new teammate Kimi Raikkonen, for this young protegee ... more

    Advantages Advantages Focus and ambition

Disadvantages Disadvantages Being held back by his team?

After too long in Mika Hakinnen's shadow, this could be the year that Coulthard proves he is very near the top of the Formula 1 tree. After Hakinnen's bad luck and bad performances in the first few races of the year, McLaren must surely sieze the opportunity to get Coulthard the title. If they are honest, they know for sure that Schumacher is way too far ahead of Hakinnen to catch and they should use Hakinnen in the same was that Ferrari use Barichello. Coulthard has proved his abilities in the past, but a slight lack of reliatbility and some debatable team tactics may have prevented him from ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Driver, British and great personality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not focused, not calm and angry too much

I have always had a sense of feeling proud when it comes to British drivers doing so well in the F1 ring, I cheered and drank a toast to the great championship win of Nigel Mansell, I even had a tear when Damon Hill did the same. Now we have Coulthard and I have mixed emotions about this british driver. Last season he was a back seat driver to Mika so everytime he lost the race or had to cover Mika's back he made comments like he is not getting the support from the team, Mika is the number 1 driver and his role is to support him to win the championship, then came the plane crash which would ... more

I think this year has been the best chance of David Coulthards career so far. Lets face it if it hadent been for Mikas bad luck DC would still be in the shadows. You only have to look back to his days at Williams to see that he is a Also Ran. At that time like now he was in the best car by far, but he did not have the skill or mental powers needed to beat his team mate & this was why he was dropped by williams. If DC does not soon take the bull by the horns I think not only will Mika again take the world Championship but next year could be his last in a top team. He is in a strong position but ... more

    Advantages Advantages Excellent driving skills

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too cocky and not nearly as nice a guy as Mika

David the Braveheart! I had to give David this title as he sort of is! As far as my fave drivers go David is right up there! When I first started watching F1 (which is probably when I was born!) I didn’t notice David in his blue Williams Renault. But I was wrong in ignoring him. *Profile* Date of Birth : 27th March 1971 Place of Birth : Twynholm, Scotland Lives in : Monte Carlo (Monaco) Hobbies : Running, Cinema and Golf Fave Music : Queen, Phil Collins and Texas Fave Meal : Pasta (not haggis) Fave Drink : Tea and water (not whisky) Height : 182cm Weight : 75.5kg *Career* 1983-88 : ... more

David Coulthard should be the F1 world champion this year. He has been more consistant that Mika and has been let down from his team. Ron Denis is biast towards Mika and puts all the teams attention in Mikas corner. If the McLaren team gave equal attention to both drivers, David would be 2 times world champion and heading towards his third. If David is given a fair chance he could be equal to or even better than the German, Michael. Ron is british and so is the McLaren team! WHY DO THEY NOT GET BEHIND OUR BRITISH DRIVER? What do you think? ... more

    Advantages Advantages Nice

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Too nice

How did he blow the advantage? I know the odds were against him at Spar but its an uphill struggle for Coulthard now that mika has pulled so far away. All he can hope for is a Mika-Michael tangle at Monza and again at the banks of indianapolis so he can pull it back. Ferarri are out of the running now but the big threat comes form his team mate. I think Hakkinen has the maturity to fight out another world championship. The majority of the title will have come through taking chances. David has not taken his but Mika has. Michael again shows that the ferarri does not have what it takes in a ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fearless

Disadvantages Disadvantages You tell him that !! - if you dare

Is this man not the coolest driver in F1 at the moment ??!! I think that DC will win the F1 chamionship this year, reliability and good health willing, and also the help of former neumero uno Mr Mika Hakkinan. David definately has the bit between his teeth and is chomping at the bit. Ferrari betta watch the wing mirror if he's behind and they can only watch the dust as he pulls away. David not only wants to win, he deserves to win, after playing second fiddle to Mikka last year, which Mclaren denied, i think its his year. GO ON DAVE !!! ... more
