Now I work for Debenhams, and have done now for a year and if there is one thing I have to do, it's to be able to process account cards. There have been some modifications to the old store card and a new MasterCard has been introduced, but I'm sure you will find all the information you need below! . THE APPLICATION. The application for a Debenhams card is pretty much the same as before, except now it is a dual application you are considered for a Debenhams store card and a Debenhams MasterCard (explained later on in DEBENHAMS MASTERCARD section). There is the written application, which I would ... more

I like Debenham’s, they sell just about everything you can possible want – and despite their prices being on the steep side I usually buy my kitchen stuff there and other bits and bobs that we find difficult to get anywhere else. So I guess it was natural when we were asked if we wanted a Debenham’s card by store staff – to answer “Yes”. A week or so later our card came along and we began to use it. We used our card and then the company behind the card ‘G E CAPITAL BANK’ increased our credit limit, and so they continued to do so until it reached its present limit of £8000 and was ‘promoted’ ... more

With so many cards to choose from you may be wondering if it is still worth having account cards for the big organisations such as Marks & Spencer and Debenhams. These cards are also known as store cards and generally speaking they may only be used at the store named on the card. Some cards like the JJB Sports card have many different partners where you can shop, it goes under the name of a Duet card and you may use it wherever you see the Duet sign. It doesn’t seem to matter if you can use the card at one store or many, as there is one factor that remains the same, high interest rates. I have ... more

First things First. ---------------------- Although I don’t have and never have had a typical Debenhams store card as such (I had the staff discount credit card) I feel I am qualified to write this opinion due to the fact that I spent two years working for Debenhams, almost exclusively in the Customer Accounts Department. The Basics --------------- There are two types of store card available, the standard blue card, and the more beneficial gold card. You cannot apply for a gold card though – basically you have to fulfill the requirements (see below) and the kind people at GE ... more

I went into Debenhams in Wigan in the North West and was about to spend around £100 pounds on clothes and various other things. Anyway I had remembered watching a programme on store cards. They said that they are excellent to have so long as you don't misuse them. They also said that you received 10% off on purchases when you open an account. I looked around the store and found a little card explaining a little about the card. I noticed that you got ten percent off purchases when you opened an account. I thought that if I did not use it again at least I have saved over a tenner on my purchases ... more

Advantages Advantages First week 10% discount, and regular special offers/vouchers

Disadvantages Disadvantages High APR - and pressure on staff to open accounts

Firstly of all i would like to point out that i currently work in Debenhams and therefore i know more about the advantages/disadvantages of having a debenhams card than some people who have written their reviews on the site so far. Also there have been a few changes particularly to the "account cover" side of things over the past few months so it is also worth considering those. Opening your account It is extremely easy to open your Debenhams account, in fact every member of staff who serves you at the till point WILL ask you if you would like to open one (it is a test shop requirment...if we ... more

I have had a Debenhams store card for many years now, as you or may not read my Debenhams review, I can spend an awful lot of time in there and an awful lot of money. Debenhams store cards are issued by GE Money, one of the main companies that department stores, such as Debenhams go through when arranging a store card. Its an ideal piece of plastic if you shop a lot in Debenhams and works like any other store card. When you first take out the card you will be asked to fill in an application form in store so they are able to contact GE Money to see whether you would be accepted for a card. As ... more

I bought an expensive coat from debenhams so I signed up for the card and got a 10% discount worth £15. I'm your typical male I don't exactly live to shop for clothes. However the main advantage of the card is you get occaisional mail that allows you to get what are really quite good offers. e.g. 10% weeks, mega day events, sales and of course nectar points. I've used the card for 2/3 years now and the disicpline you need to make it work for you, is to pay off the balance every month. If not the interest rate soon swallows up any saving you might of made when you bought your goods!! If you ... more

I first became aware of this account card when my mum first applied for one many years ago. This account card has a first downer of being a very high APR of which in my mind has a big red cross over it, but the benifits of the card if used to its full potentional can out weigh and avoid the bad. As many credit cards and store cards have, this card has an intrest free period of purchases of up to 56 days of the purchase providing the balance was cleared and payment was on time on the last statement. There are 2 different types of account cards the blue and the gold. You can only apply for the ... more

Advantages Advantages 10 percent off on many occasions throughout the year

Disadvantages Disadvantages You may well be bankrupted

Having worked for Debenhams, I am among the people who put their ethics and morals aside and pushed this card to customers for all its worth, with a lot of success. From a sale's adviser's point of view, it's fairly easy to sell: "Would you like to open an account and save 10% NOW and for a WHOLE WEEK!?" Not only that, but it's easy to open (providing you're dealing with a competent member of staff); there is a high acceptance rate from GE Capital, the bank that deals with the account; you save 10% or more throughout the year at various "mega days" and account evenings (but you may have ... more
