Advantages Advantages Eat it straight away

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough in a can

Our Delia Smith may make it so easy on TV but it’s just too much for me to tackle a fresh pineapple! By the time I finished the task of peeling it (about 15 minutes!), there’s not much fruit left! Why should I bother while I can get a tin of Del Monte pineapple at around 80p from my local Tesco? All I need is a can opener. The Del Monte Sliced Pineapple in Own Juice (432g) has got exactly what it says on the tin. It contains only two ingredients: pineapple and pineapple juice, nothing more, nothing less. The texture of the pineapple slices is of course softer than fresh pineapple but the ... more

Advantages Advantages Tasty Versatile Not Expensive

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very Few

Of all the delicious tropical fruits that are to be found in processed form on our supermarket shelves today my big favourite is,and has long been, canned pineapple. I just love pineapple and whilst you can come across fresh pineapplea in international fruit stores in Britain's bigger cities,it is a nuisance having to cut the fruit and find edible portions. With canned pineapples all the hard work has been done for you and it is such a convenient product to buy. Of all the cans of canned pineapple in the market, Del Monte is probably the best known and is certainly dead easy to find. It is a ... more

Advantages Advantages can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes

Disadvantages Disadvantages there's alot if pineapple to use in one can

Where has the man from Del Monte gone? Probably retired now. Del Monte has to be the most well known brand for tinned fruits and they are consistent in their quality. The green tins have not changed much over the years. I prefer buying fruits in their natural juices as it is ofcourse healthier and I can sometimes find the alternative syrup too sweet. I do like the Del Monte brand and it is so easy to find as most food stores stock it. A can costs around 50p and can stay in the cupboard for ages. A can of tinned pineapple is very versatile and can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes. I ... more

Advantages Advantages nice garnish,alone,100s of reasons

Disadvantages Disadvantages not much in a can

I have always bought and eaten greedily, pineapple slices. before now i have tried to get a whole pineapple and peel it, i got bored and went straight to the cupboard to get out a tin of pineapple. I found a tin of Tesco "supersave" pineapple slices, they were nice but were the last tin. The next time i went shopping i bought some del monte pineapple slices. If you ever Buy pineapple slices make sure that they are in pineapple juice and not in water or other juice, believe me on this one and that it IS IMPORTANT.There is no added sugar, the pineapple is sweet enough already. I bought the del ... more

Advantages Advantages Easily available and taste nice

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The tin!

I decided to make some pasta with pineapple and salad. Tesco have stopped producing my favourite "own brand" tinned pineapple in their "basics" range so I decided to try Del Monte. It was 39p for a tin of pineapple rings. There were 4 rings in the tin, I discovered when I eventually got the tin open. The tin had a ring pull and it was too tight to open. I tried all ways and the ring pull eventually snapped. I had to use a tin opener but that only opened half of the tin lid and then there were thin strips of metal hanging off it. I pulled and pulled and tried to use the tin opener again and ... more
