...he had just ordered 4 Dell Dimension 2400 systems.
When they arrived, after a respectable few days, it was my task to set them all up and check them out.
The system comes in two seperate boxes, one with the Base Unit, Keyboard, Mouse, Cables and CD's. The second box has the Monitor. Both boxes are quite large, and it helps to have a second person with you to get the monitor out of the box.
The system configuration we have is an Intel Celeron 2.4Ghz, ... ...the extra's though, I'm sure Dell can provide these, but for a price. Setting them up was very straight forward, with the sockets being colour coded and a good Setup Guide provided for those who are a bit scared of these sort of things.
On initial boot up, you have to go through several Setup Screens to configure the machine with things like Country and the names of the users etc. This procedure is very straight forward, as long as the inexperienced ...

Advantages: Customise before you buy, very easy to setup, Dell support and its products are reliable. Disadvantages: None so far
Our household now has two Dell Dimension 2400 computers such was are satisfaction with the quality of the product. Coming in a more fashionable black exterior they also look much better. We were also surprised how easy it was to setup the machine, leads are colour coordinated with the plugs and the diagram showing how everything went together gets 10/10 from me especially when compared to quick-fit furniture.
---Price---
Not the cheapest of computers, ... ...away. Getting through to a Dell advisor was also easy if there was any queries. However when ordering over the phone do not be pushed into anything you don't want as the salesperson can be quite aggressive as they are most likely paid on commisssion.

...decided on the very affordable Dell Dimension 2400 Series Computer. Although not ‘cutting edge’ it provides all the attributes we needed.
The cost was very good at £630, which included delivery charges.
It is possible to have the system installed by a Dell engineer and with an extended warranty but at a cost of over £100 this was something we could not afford. I am fairly comfortable with taking our existing system to bits and moving it around ... ...are quite intuitive.
The Dell Dimension 2400 computer is very handsome with co-ordinated black colouring from keyboard to screen. Much nicer than the dreadful grey colour of my current equipment.
And it comes with a 17-inch flat panel monitor. It is so classy and saves so much space in my tiny terraced house.

...customise the computer on the Dell website is a very handy feature. However many of the upgrade prices are not discounted much, or are even slightly inflated to the price you would pay if you brought them yourself. Considering Dell get to keep the 'old' component (in most cases), and also considering Dells buying power then there should be a huge reduction.
I brought this PC from dells website for £391 currently it has free shipping, but when the ... ...this upgraded to 512MB by dell it costs £94.00 which is rediculous. You could easily buy DDR Ram for this money, you could even buy kingston ram for this much! So i decided to buy it with 256MB, i intend to buy a stick of 512MB and sell the original 256MB.
There are 2 Dimm DDR sockets on the motherboard, which support upto 1024MB DDR Ram, which is sufficiant for todays standards.
There's one internal 3.5" Drive bay occupied by the hard drive.

I first bought my Dell Dimension 2400 series last year. Me and my friend Emma had been messing around on the Internet and came across dells website. Well the Dell Dimension 2400 I could say is pretty good for business purposes. Dell does let you customize it but its more of a business system. Its not really all that fast, it has two ram slots no agp slot. Which means no video card, which means no high quality good games. How ever I recommend this system for typing, at home jobs, and for searching purposes. Pretty good size monitor but thats about it. Works with windows xp and lower O.S.

Bought this computer 4 years ago and it is still my main computer, i did upgrade it a bit when first purchased by getting a 17" flat screen and boosting the memory to a 1gb ram. With that added it has been a great computer very quick and easy to use for any illiterate computer user. Currently upgrading it a bit by adding better graphics card and more ram as times are changing and need quicker computer for running architecture programs. Dell have produced a great PC that can punch it's way out of a environmentally friendly brown paper bag.
Working in IT for nearly 20 years allows me to be the judge on PCs and I can say that anyone looking for an off the shelf branded PC will no go wrong with this.
The PC case is well constructed with nicely "sexy" coloured strong plastic - say goodbuy to the boring black or magnolia 'cream' colours.
With the right amount of ... ...you can buy.

...and was awarded a new Dell 2400 with a flat screen! Cd-rw/dvd-rom! 40GB hard drive, Windows XP and everything else that i had wanted in a computer. "Nice for some" I thought. "Bet it would have cost her a bomb if she hadn't her insurance" I cynically stated. So finally I went on the site and found that they were practically giving the damn things away, i as still conserved on the whole idea of a cheap computer and what do you know I clicked on the ... ...and running in no time. Dell being the smart lads that they are had colour coded the leads to the connection/socket and device. They also forgot to mention that the base unit had numerous USB sockets which i was over the moon with as i had to change over and install a couple of the devices on my old IBM. So i fired her up and created the separate profile for each member of the house and came to the desktop and found that several useful applications ...

...couple this with the extra's Dell throw in as freebies (all in one printer, mp3 player, camera) it really hits the mark as regards an all round machine.
I made the mistake of not getting a good graphics card when building it on the Dell website, but have since added one myself.
I have run many applications on this machine and it has never yet let me down add to this the memory hungry games I also ran and again the machine handled them brilliantly.
... ...i contacted Dell for an enquiry they where polite and eager to help
All in all I would recommend this machine for the basic home computer or with a decent graphics card for the serious gamer, a good all round machine that really fills a gap in the market.

Dell is one of the leading computer manufacturers but still they don't make their computers for the advanced users. The Dell Dimension has a 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 processor (without HT technology!), a pathetic 40Gb hard drive, and a pathetic 256Mb stick of RAM. I will say this computer is ok for a beginner but for anyone wanting more from your pc, never buy a Dell computer in your life. Read on and you will find out why.
My experience with the Dell Dimension ... ...about them. I got my Dell Dimension 2400 for a Christmas present about 3 years ago and I will be honest with you I was very pleased with it at the time but as time went on and I got a lot more experienced and older I wanted more. I had many problems with the computer; the motherboard does not have an AGP slot for the new graphics cards that are out now. The processor does not have hyper threading technology so it is not as fast as it can be at processing ...
