...not when you buy a dell computer, you pretty much choose the whole thing to be built to your choice, which if you aks me means that the order process is all part of this pc!!
Now I've had my dell inspiron 1520 for nearly a year ( i'm even writing this review using it!) and even though you can order it to your specification, this model wasn't changed much from the basic spec so it gives a good insight into standard etc.
First off, upon ringing through ... ...order twice saying ''thats the dell inspiron in black with...'' I found this to be the most annoying thing as if it wasn't for the fact that it was this exact pc I wanted I would have at that point taken my business elsewhere. Its' not like I was asking for a lot of difficult unusual specs or extras - it was basic with a couple of simple things.

**THE LOOK**
Although this machine is a bit on the bulky size, weighing in at a middleweight 3.2kg and measuring 36cm wide by 27cm deep and 4cm thick, this laptop looks smart, with its black cover, silver inner lining and its 15.4 inch screen The keyboard section is laid out with simplicity, not too confusing to the eye, with the power button above it and the touch pad below.
On the left side there lies the heating vents, which never get too hot ... ...noisy with it.
Also there is the WiFi sliding switch, which has three functions on the sliding path, on-off and search.
With the microphone and earphone socket the side look neat well organised.
There is also a flat tray like piece of plastic which slides out when a button is pushed, this is the 'express card slot'
On the right side there lies two USB ports, D-sub, Ethernet port, a four pin 'firewire' port and the splendidly useful 8-in-1 cards ...

Dell are the best of the best when it comes to computing, when you buy a dell, you know you will be satisfied with it, and although they are sometimes a bit more pricey than others of the same spec, but of different brands, they are well worth the extra money because of there high build quality.
However with dell you can only buy online, this is a bit annoying because you cant see what your getting up close before you buy it, however, a good thing ... ...suit your needs.
Deliveries from dell usually take about a week to come, with some coming before and some coming after. And dell have really good customer service too.
This dell inspiron 1720 looks really good, it looks like any other dell inspiron, however there have been so much different products made of the inspiron that you know dell have got an amazingly designed laptop.

Ordering a dell couldnt be more simple. The online process is great and easy to use. In fact far easier to use than the telephone service where the how can i put it, difference in accent, can often lead to mistakes. Once you have chosen the model you require then you will be guided through a series screens where you can purchase additional options for your computer, things such as extra hard disk capacity, better screen etc. The beauty ... ...just taken delivery of my Dell inspiron 1520, and to be honest didnt really need to upgrade the machine much at all. Dell Inspirons are very reliable machines! Whenever I have been asked which machine I wish to upgrade to I always request the latest Inspiron.
I spend a lot of time travelling and work from home as well as the office- the Inspiron has proven to be robust and reliable.
The battery holding charge is reliable if you follow Dell's recommendations for use etc.
The recharging lead and pack is neat and small for ease of packing/transportation.
Monitor ... ...if you are busy and dont want to waste time reading the manuals.
The aesthetics of the machine are also very attractive and the Dell badge is a mark of reliability and great value for money.
I highly reccommend the Inspiron range, so when its time to choose, choose Inspiron! ...

...protaction software that comes with Dell is not compatible with this laptop. After day two of purchasing the product it didn't work.
Windows side bar either takes20minuites to load, or encounters a problem and has to stop running completely. This then slows the other applications down as its busy loading side bar.
The sound quality is good, however, the maximum volume is poor. Despite the poor points, there are a few good ones. The wireless range ... ...product is very unsatisfactory. If the price was around the £400 mark, I would recomend this laptop.
Dell are also very unhelpful, and hard to understand. The product came 3weeks after it was supposed to arrive. A small fortune can also be spent ringng them for help and advice. ...

Well my first laptop ever bought. Well having 512 MB of RAM, and 1.6 or around dual core of Gigahz are enought to perform most computer operation on Windows XP, but not suggestable for Windows Vista try looking for upragde in RAM.
This laptop is may be the best in its series of Inspiron. With its look and feel it looks quite a mixture of HP laptop and old generation laptop. But there are many other better looking laptops available from Dell, and ... ...to search around for other companys for better design.
This laptop weighs around 3.5 KG which is often much more higher than other laptops, and is not advisable to purchase for your travelling trips. But provides good comfort to work with.
For Robustness it is the best laptop I would suggest and Durability is much more longer than generally other HP, Samsung, VAIO laptops. It doesn't heat up that often because it has enough space beneath to let ...

When looking for my first laptop I was searching for an efficient and powerful computer. I believe the Inspiron 1520 fits that mould. The Laptop is fairly heavy but with its generously proportioned 15.4 inch screen that is to be expected. The specification is more than ample. I went for the T7500 processor which really shines on the many software packages I use. The graphics Nvidia 8600 GT graphics card,though not top of the range handles all but ... ...faulted however a massive problem lies with the fan. The fan appears not to work,the laptop will start to heat if used for over one hour which wcan cause discomfort if placed on the users lap. I also found that the charger supplied with the laptop is prone to overheating and mine has broken down twice

Where to start. This was my first laptop and was a very good laptop for the first year. However after the first year the keys started to come loose and there were a few problems with the screen.
The laptop was decent at playing games (for example, Call of Duty 4 a modern game) was able to run at a very good frame rate with about half of the effects on. It was also able to display HD Videos. The only real problem with the hardware was that the only graphics card you could get was integrated.
However all in all it was a good laptop perfect for beginners. ...

...deliberation decided to buy the dell for its overall performance. Unlike some laptops which at first look seemed better value this dell seems to have quality parts accross the board.
Things i like
-quality touchpad
-fast bluetooth inluded (easy connection with phone)
-good performance
-already set up (could start printing over home network immediatly)
-superb battery performance
-dell media direct lets you watch dvds without starting windows ... ...so dont need to carry camera cable for uploading photos)
-webcam is clear (even has face tracking)
-dell support Disadvantages
- paying extra for extended battery doesnt mention it sticks out an extra 2cm
-built in mic isnt great (for using skype i still take my philips headset)
-as mentioned in other reviews speakers on front face downwards: this is fine if its on a table but quilty drops when laptops on knee

...as a replacement laptop after dell were unable to fix my 5150. at first it semed very complicated to use. But as time has come on i have work out how every thing works and i am very happy with it. it is alot faster than my last laptop.

No problems at all with this notebook! Bought through Aol/Carphone Warehouse current laptop deal. I went for the core 2 duo processor (option 3). The free wireless router you get from Aol is rubbish. I ended up buying a netgear rangemaster next (very good indeed). The good news is the wireless card in the laptop works perfectly with the new router, so no need to upgrade it. So far so good. Worth it for the money I paid for it (£145) and then £100 ...

I just love my Dell Inspiron 1520. Even after a year and a half of having this sweet, fast, hardworking beauty of a beast, it still outranks the competition in my book. Dell did it right with this laptop. The graphics is awesome (GeForce 8600M), the computer fans run very silent (can barely hear them), and the connection is out of this world. It is a bit bulky, but in my opinion, that's just a sign that it is built to a high quality. The Vista OS ... ...if dropped, I am sure that this laptop will stay pretty much in tact. But don't go and drop yours just to see, okay? Summary: I am well pleased with my 1520, it rocks!! and I highly recommend the Dell Inspiron 1520 to anyone!! Thank you ...
