Advantages: extrasusb/wifi good gfx card and sound/screen where to end? Disadvantages: Heavy
This Laptop is an very solid machine. I say this because usually when I pick a laptop up first thing I notice is the need for power and a time delay to load the windows, its like you have to handle the laptop carefully just in fear of delaying the start up. This has been my experience of earlier laptops from Dell.
This one was a big step up, I put the machine in front of me on a cushion for the first time and with a tap of the on switch windows ... ...The build quality is A1 a great silver colour and very sleek buttons in a very sleek case that clicks open and shut. The screen is sharp, bright colours crisp and very appealing. I have a Samsung LCD monitor on my main PC this monitor is just as good but in a tidy package. The machine was very easy to handle all the buttons in very accessible and user friendly positions.
I've used this laptop for a few weeks and now really like opening the lid for ...

The dell inspiron looks great, performs great and best of all it's a dell.
Dell are no doubt the best when it comes to laptops and computers, the only bad thing I can think of about dell, is that you can only buy online. This can be a bit frustrating because when you want to get a laptop you want to see it before and try it before you buy. Also you don't want to wait a week or longer before it arrives so you can go on it.
However it being a dell, ... ...it looks like any other dell inspiron, but a lot of design work went into these and it really shows and you most defiantly wouldn't be embarrassed to get this out on the plane or at work to show everyone in sight.
This features a Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 / 1.8 Ghz processor, which runs the huge 2 gb of ram, really fast. Most laptops seem to have 1 gb of ram so to see this with 2 gbs, you just know it's a step up in class.
Also this 2gb of ram can ...

Advantages: Suitable for a variety of uses, gaming, DVDs, office work etc. Disadvantages: Haven't found any yet!
I bought this laptop a few months ago because firstly, I wanted a full-size keyboard (being a touch typist), secondly I wanted a decent graphics card for gaming (comes with nVidia card) and thirdly, my laptop never travels so I wanted a large screen.
A few months down the line and I am very happy with it! The gaming is absolutely great (and so is the touch-typing!). It is fantastic to have a large screen - in fact, it seems really weird if I revert ...

Review of Dell Inspiron 1720
Advantages: Nice design, easy to use, not too expensive Disadvantages: Big big to carry around every day
...From my experience people like Dell because they produce value for money products to a high standard. Other people are put off because they are not a shop, but i know people who have had a couple of problems with dell and Dell have managed to sort out the problems no fuss. So i don't think this hsould put people off. The Laptop - This laptop has many great features. It's performance is fantastic and it does everything you need it to do. It's quick ... ...It is a stylish design and isn't too heavy. When buying this there is an optional screen resolution sizes to choose from. ...the PC. I wonder if Dell are aware of this issue, where an updated driver might resolve, or is it simply a design problem with the pad itself. Sometimes breathing onto my finger will help, so if you have sweaty fingers, you may not have so many problems!
A solidly built and attractive machine, albeit rather heavy. Not recommended for on the road use. Nice responsive keyboard.

...reasonably priced and I trusted Dell products from my personal and friends' previous use. The screen is fairly large which conributes towards the ease of use of this particlular model. I have had it just under a year and I have experienced no problems whatsoever, I regularly browse the internet and have uploaded many photos but neither have slowed it down. ...customer support received from both Dell and PC World was not on par with the quality of the product. Buyer beware, If you are expecting to install Windows XP (as opposed to Windows Vista already installed) then you will need to search the internet for technical support. This is a great laptop let down by a couple of things which could easily be remedied by Dell. Pros: Very fast with a great screen (I have a 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo with the 1920x1200 Ultrasharp screen option). Supports 2 hard disks. Looks good and feels as solid as a rock. Excellent full keyboard.
Cons: Big and heavy - not really for carrying around. Sound - only one speaker so no stereo, and sound comes from underneath to the side, so sounds distant ... ...There is loads of room to make this much larger. As it is, I find I am constantly having problems with it as I am inadvertently hitting the 'scrolling' areas and the mouse stops responding as I am expecting it to. This is the worst touchpad I have used, but only because its usable area is so small.
Update: OK I was wrong - the laptop has stereo sound. there are 2 small speakers at the front, but on the underside, so you have to be careful that they ...

Advantages: Elegant look, onboard numeric keypad, fast processor, large 17 inch screen Disadvantages: Vista installed on it, weight and the touchpad that not always reacts properly
I bought my own Dell inspiron 1720 7-8 months ago and I must say, I LOVE it. My brother also has a Dell Inspiron 9400. Our whole family loves Dell. It has an elegant and fast look, despite the large housing. It is very strong, since it is made from high quality aluminium. I must admit that Dell is probably one of the best companies in making laptops.
The first big advantage of the inspiron 1720 is that it has an extra numeric keypad. This was also ... ...slow Vista installed on it. Dell has recently started to sell their computers with linux distributions (free), which I think is again a bonus for Dell. I love it when such an international company promotes free software. The size of the 17 inch screen, makes the laptop a bit heavy, 8.70 pounds. The biggest disadvantage for me is the touchpad. The touchpad often not reacted properly.
All in all, I can say it is again another job well done from Dell! ...

Advantages: Solid, durable, powerful and versitile Disadvantages: Bulky
This laptop is a very good desktop replacement, solid machine and very mobile round the house if you have a wireless internet connection that is. Although i would advise agaisnt going out and about with this product as it is quite bulky, but thats just a personal choice as i feel there are better laptops on the market for that sort of usage. It certainly makes up for its lack of portability with speed and power, i run a 32 inch LCD monitor as extra ... ...quality film, i still get the same fast response and quality from the laptop. As far as negative points go on this laptop, i believe the majority of them are personal preference (which can be changed within the computers settings). The only bad thing i have to say is on the touchpad i prefer to have a horizontal 'forward' and 'backward' scroll at the top, along with the up/down and left/right scrolls that this product has.
I have had no problems ...

Advantages: The perfect budget laptop Disadvantages: Looks like a dell.
...I was skeptical of a Dell laptop, but after seeing the Inspiron 1720 I was impressed by its features, especially comparative to the price. If you are looking for a highly functional laptop on a budget, this is certainly the avenue to be looking down. So, here's my computer-studdent-wisdom breakdown:
Screen: The screen is better than expected for a laptop in terms of brightness (which can be adjusted easily) and size. It's nice!
Keyboard: Despite ... ...main drawback is it's sound quality isn't fantastic, but certainly not substandard.
Integrated microphone: Again not fantastic, but not substandard.

...great pleasure in using the Dell Inspiron 1720. It is designed to be a high end entertainment PC and has a large 17" High definition LCD display to show. It certainly looks impressive.
