...one of those months.
We use Dell laptops at work and as the head of IT services it's normally me that decides what kit we get and on the configurations, so I had an idea of what I was looking for since we bought similar laptops for our sales team recently.
I configured my Dell Inspiron 6400 as follows (for those techy types out there)
Base Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T2060(1.6GHz/533MHz/1MB)

Advantages: Customizable, Extended Battery Life, Media Buttons, Stylish, Disadvantages: N/A
I'm a keen enthusiastic of DELL laptops, although you always get the majority who always criticise DELL. Clearly, they are either computer illiterate or haven't a clue what DELL actually do. The DELL Inspiron is a fantastic laptop, they always manufacture laptop specifications to you're needs, and are for value for money. Every DELL computer I've had, I've always had a great experience and never no technical issues.
I purchased the DELL Inspiron ...

...seem to be incompatible with Dell machines. I say this because I have to continuously uninstall certain Microsoft Vista updates for the wireless connection to remain connected. Uninstalling the updates is the only solution I have found to solve this problem. I know that the problem is not caused by the wireless device itself as it runs perfectly for my housemates.
I really like the media shortcut buttons at the front of the notebook which include ...

...and I stumbled upon the dell website. This was easily the best of all the laptop manufacturers' websites as it was so easy to use. It provided loads of information upon all of its laptop models and once I had decided it was the 6400 that I wanted you are taken to a page which allows you to easily configure every imaginable setting for a laptop. For example it offers the options of four different processors and speeds which you choose. The total price ...

I bought the Dell Inspiron 6400[E1505 laptop, as a replacement for my two year old one. I had not used a 15.4'' screen before and wasn't really looking forward to it. As 15'' screens were hard to find, I plumped for the 15.4'' as I still wish to retain portability and be able to actually work with the machine, on my lap.
My first impression of the Dell, once running, was the bright screen, with a fantastic viewing angle. ...

...finally decided to buy a dell Inspiron 6400.
I previously tried Acer laptop and a dell 6000 laptop.
I was first planning to buy Pacerd Bell which of the same specs was quite cheaper but DELL, the name is famous and a reliable brand according to me so I decided to go for Dell despite of paying a lot more.
I was really looking forward for this laptop as this was dell and you can easily configure it according to your needs.

I toddled off to dell.co.uk and browsed through the site. I wanted something that was a bit beefy, but didn't cost the earth and at the end of it I settled for the Inspiron 6400 that dell had a special offer on.
I went through the customising part of the order process (and is it just me or do they never come out the same price as they advertise?) I ordered, ...

Advantages: Value for Money Disadvantages: Occasional faults, long term battery performance
...As usual, by buying from Dell it means I have got a very good price for a decent enough machine. The styling isn't likely to win it any awards but it doesn't look bad either. It is quite slimline and nice and light for portable use. The keyboard is a nice size, nicely layed out and contains all the ports (such as 4 USBs and a firewire) you should need. The media direct button is an extra little feature enabling you to manage all your media with ease, ...

...decided to go for the DELL Inspiron 6400 as it seemed to have enough hard drive and RAM to be used as a Desktop replacement whilst still being portable enough to bring on family holidays to show the holiday snaps etc.

...I purchased mine directly from dell with 1gb ram and an ati x1300 mobility graphics card. I can play most games on an acceptable graphical level and have multiple applications running at ease.
A few bugs to run around though, sometimes my monitor does not turn off when i close the lid, this can cause the screen to heat up and burn in the lcd. However this comes and goes (seems to be gone now)
I dont like the fact you cannot upgrade your ati graphics ...
