Advantages: Avoids mould; helps dry washing Disadvantages: Needs space both in front and behind
...dehumidifiers and came across the Delonghi DEM10 Compact, available online at both John Lewis and Amazon at the price of £99.95. I didn't want to order online as I was more than likely to be out when it was delivered, so I decided to order from my local branch of John Lewis. (I could have opted for Saturday delivery from John Lewis online for an extra £6.95, but knew it wouldn't cost that much to take a taxi home from the shop.) It was going to be ... ...tried to be more vigilant about putting the extractor fan on when I had a shower, not overwatering my plants, not leaving coffee mugs full of water while waiting to be washed, and putting washing out to dry in the garden whenever the weather was fine.
I chose the compact model which has a handle at the top, and as it weighs about ten kilos I knew it would be possible for me to carry it from one room to another if need be. I'm not particularly good ...

Our large, four bedroom house is over 200 years old and therefore has no cavity walls to insulate. After a cold and damp 2008 summer we were suffering from condensation and mould problems in spite of extractor fans in both kitchen and bathroom. Time to dehumidify!
We bought our DEM 10 at Curry's for £99.99. It is compact, easily moved with a fold-out top carry handle and absolutely idiot proof in use. The level of humidity that the unit will pull ... ...of the housing and there is a full tank warning light.
The water tank is transparent so that the water level can be seen at a glance and the tank is so easy to remove for emptying - and, more importantly, to replace. Try some of the competition! A length of polythene hose is supplied to enable continuous draining should you want to leave the unit operating while you are away from home for a few days.
The motor is very quiet in a daytime context ...

Advantages: extracts moisture from air, really quiet, holds 10l of water, can be plumbed in Disadvantages: diddly squat
Before getting new windows fitted we suffered from massive amounts of condensation in our home, so much so that damp had actually appeared in the corners of the room where water had run down the wall. Frankly after paying so much for a home I didn't fancy decorating for it all to be ruined while we waited to save up for the windows. My dad suggested a dehumidifer and we bought this one for £85 as it is small enough to sit in the corner of any room ... ...and inobtrusive it weighs a ton even when the drum is empty. There is some seriously heavy motor packed within the engine room of this beast so trying to move it when the 10 litre drum is full is near on impossible. What can I say about the DEM 10 but it is the best thing I have bought for my home in a very long time. When plugged in and working away it gives off a very quiet humming sound that after a few minutes seems to fade into the background ...

Quick review of Delonghi DEM 10
I put this in use in my dining room which is below ground level on 2 walls.
What a difference it makes
Humidity down from 70% to 50% in three days with two gallons of water produced each day.
A wonderful investment. ...
