Advantages Advantages Water extraction rate is superb, it really does work and do what it says on the box, small

Disadvantages Disadvantages Have to leave to stand for 24 hours if moved, dry air can affect skin complaints

Dampness and mould (“D&M”)Two things that go hand in hand and plague both old and new properties and no matter what you do there appears to be no way to eradicate them for good. It is a constant battle and the only thing you can do is to minimise their effects. The winter is the worst time of the year for D&M and after struggling last year I decided enough was enough and decided to get a new weapon in the form of a dehumidifier. With loads on the market to choose from and no idea what to do my other half took full responsibility and ended up deciding on the Delonghi Dem10. In the box In the ... more

Advantages Advantages Avoids mould; helps dry washing

Disadvantages Disadvantages Needs space both in front and behind

One morning, pulling a pair of boots from under a chair in the corner of my bedroom, I was horrified to find them covered in mould. A few days before, I thought I had noticed a smell of mould as I came through the front door of my flat, but I had had no idea where it was coming from. From the time I moved into my flat, I had been aware that the plants didn't need watering as often as they used to, and washing did seem to take a long time to dry, even in summer. There was obviously a lot of moisture in the air; the boots could just be tied up in a bag and disposed of, but I didn't want to end ... more

Advantages Advantages Efficient water removal dries the clothes quicker, and removes condensation without mould developi

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite a heavy model, need to empty it regularly

About 2 years ago we noticed that the box room in our house was developing quite bad mould spots on two of the walls that were exterior walls. We tried opening the windows more, but realised quickly that it was not the best idea in the world to leave it especially as we were using the room at the time as a nursery for our youngest. I didn't want him to get health problems from it. We quickly realised part of the problem was my husband had been a bit overzealous with the loft insulation and not left a little bit of space around the edges for ventilation. The other part to it was I was drying a ... more

Our large, four bedroom house is over 200 years old and therefore has no cavity walls to insulate. After a cold and damp 2008 summer we were suffering from condensation and mould problems in spite of extractor fans in both kitchen and bathroom. Time to dehumidify! We bought our DEM 10 at Curry's for £99.99. It is compact, easily moved with a fold-out top carry handle and absolutely idiot proof in use. The level of humidity that the unit will pull down to can be controlled via a knob on top of the housing and there is a full tank warning light. The water tank is transparent so that the water ... more

Advantages Advantages extracts moisture from air, really quiet, holds 10l of water, can be plumbed in

    Disadvantages Disadvantages diddly squat

Before getting new windows fitted we suffered from massive amounts of condensation in our home, so much so that damp had actually appeared in the corners of the room where water had run down the wall. Frankly after paying so much for a home I didn't fancy decorating for it all to be ruined while we waited to save up for the windows. My dad suggested a dehumidifer and we bought this one for £85 as it is small enough to sit in the corner of any room without dominating the eyeline. While it might me small and inobtrusive it weighs a ton even when the drum is empty. There is some seriously heavy ... more

Advantages Advantages Very effective, easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Low pitched humming when operating

Had dark-colored mould spores appearing in my home last winter and research revealed this is due to condensation of humidity (caused by cooking, bathing etc) combined with colder outdoor temperature and poor airflow within the building (common in many smaller/purpose built homes). Being unable to control the airflow or the outside temperature (!) my only option was to try and reduce the amount of water vapor in the air - was skeptical about this unit fulfilling this task initially, but it works very well indeed. On the first day of use, I switched it on when leaving the house, and when I ... more

I am a very skeptical buyer especially when it comes to electronic items and that is the reason why I read product reviews before actually buying them. Having benefited from other's reviews, I now feel I too need to return the service. So here is my dissection of the De'Longhi DEM10 Compact Dehumidifier.Well when it comes to the packaging, this thing looks huge but actually it is small in size. Its got a handle for carrying and is by no means heavy. The product thankfully requires no assembly and you can directly start to use it. A transparent pipe is supplied with the unit and for the ... more

We have had our Delonghi DEM 10 Dehumidifyer now for about eighteen months and we have been really pleased with its performance. It was bought because we do suffer from a lot of condensation in our house and we do no thave double glazing and this was causing a lot of mould patch problems on the walls and looked terrible. It was particularly bad when we were using our tumble dryer during the winter months when we couldn't get the washing dried on the washing line outside. We bought this from Ebay for £75 (plus £4.75 postage and packing) and it arrived very quickly and was well packaged. It came ... more

I put this in use in my dining room which is below ground level on 2 walls. What a difference it makes Humidity down from 70% to 50% in three days with two gallons of water produced each day. A wonderful investment.
