Advantages Advantages Fine and dandy when everything works - and cheap.

Disadvantages Disadvantages When it goes pear-shaped, be prepared for the long haul.

First of all, I must say I've been a customer of Demon for the last ten years or so, the first eight or so as a dial-up user then switched to Broadband (on their Home 2000 package). As a pioneering ISP in the UK, the company consistently provided an excellent and trouble-free service during the time I was a dial-up user. I never had to ring their Customer Services once during those eight years. This state of affairs, however, changed when I switched to Broadband. In their defence, Demon are cheap - £19.99 per month for unlimited web access (no blocked sites etc.) and e-mail is very reasonable ... more

Advantages Advantages A good choice for Mac users

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some teething difficulties setting up

A long time ago, when web pages were text-only and CompuServe users were stuck with e-mail addresses like 10135242846@compuserve.com, a group of people in the UK had a dream. They dreamed of offering an internet connection, hosting service and e-mail package for 'A Tenner A Month'; a ridiculously low sum at that time. And thus Demon Internet was born. It quickly became the service provider of choice for the cognoscenti thanks to its low cost, wide range of services and the fact that it wasn't AOL. And it still, incidentally, costs £10 - plus VAT - a month for a dialup connection. Demon was the ... more

1 Star ADSL from hell 20/03/2001
    User doesn't recommend the product

Advantages Advantages faster connection when it happens to be available

Disadvantages Disadvantages outages, horrendous lack of support

My organisation, a smallish charity, "upgraded" from Demon dial up to ADSL in January, much to my regret. We did not really have much choice - the dial up was costing a fortune in phone bills, because the modem used to stay connected most of the day; ntl only offers cable modem to home users; and a leased line was way over budget. We thought, naively as it turns out, that an upgrade from an individual dial up to a business ADSL account with the same ISP would be a seamless and problem-free transition - like hell! First, we waited quite a time to hear anything from Demon. Then, it turned out ... more

Advantages Advantages When they say unlimited, they mean unlimited

Disadvantages Disadvantages Havent come across any yet!

When I first heard of Demon they only provided internet connection for business, these days they are tapping into the domestic market and are making good headway....My son works for them and he hears so many complaints about other companies the mind boggles... Strangly enough I only went with Demon because I moved and the ISP that I had previously didnt cover the new area I lived in....so I went a searching for another that did....I was in a hurry so chose another popular ISP...but decided to take advice from my Son and eventually signed up with them....Demon. If you want unlimited Internet ... more

Advantages Advantages This one actually is unlimited! Excellent value, easy set-up.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Included modem is useless, but free!

I purchased Demon Home Broadband a few months ago on the internet in about five minutes, and was childishly excited when the switch-on date arrived. I installed the USB modem onto my PC, which seemed to work perfectly well, but still left my Intel Mac without broadband. Obviously this wasn't on! I rushed into town and purchased a BT Voyager 2091 wireless router and within less than half an hour and nothing to install, I had my laptop connectedly wirelessly to the internet. I used the USB wireless adapter that came with the router to get the PC connected too, and chucked out the rubbish ... more

    Advantages Advantages None anymore

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very expensive for what is now a commodity product

Demon were never cheap but now they are prohibitively expensive. I am with them for the good line speed and the fact that I can use the line for whatever I want (no port restrictions, access to all newsgroups, running servers, bit torrent downloads, no bandwidth throttling etc). For this I am willing to pay a premium, it's what sets Demon, Zen and others apart from the crippled, capped and restricted ADSL services offered by others. With their current 8Mbps upgrade rollout they are introducing the ominous "Fair Use Policy" (read "usage cap"). This includes bandwidth throttling after ... more

Advantages Advantages speed, uptime, unlimited, 2mb

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none as yet

i changed to demon.net over a year ago after a nightmare of 12 months with AOL. I wish i chose these guys first off. I was paying with demon £19.99 a month for a unlimited 512kb connection, This year they upgraded everyones accounts to 2mb or the maximum your line will carry up to 2mb For the same price. the free modem filters and connection pack i recieved are outstanding. its unlimited on all ports so P2P software is not affected. I find all my pages load fast. In 18 months i have had to use their technical support once and i was shocked after AOLs technical support taking forever to answer ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick to offer a Mac code!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor Customer Service, Poor Latency, Poor Speed, Poor Value for Money

Having been a loyal customer of Demons for many years, the past few months have been a nightmare. Poor latency leading to terrible speeds and a total reluctance by their customer services to properly acknowledge the situation and do something positive about it. I have now migrated to another provider. Irrespective of which package you're on, Demon seem to treat all their customers the same and I was totally appalled at the lack of support I received. I was told the issues with latency and speed were down to BT. Clearly this was not the case as the moment I migrated my speeds went from 1-2meg ... more

Advantages Advantages The Demon service works OK and the call centre generally helpful but the ADMIN side sucks.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not real people in ADMIN.so address your corrspondence to the Demon Admin Computer.

(Thus) Demon Broadband - BAD NEWS !! My ex was 8 months into her contract and was forced to move flat as the landlord wanted to sell.. She gave Demon adequate notice in writing that she was moving home but could not find a place immediately. She was prepared to continue paying the monthly service charges and did NOT want to cancel the contract. She asked Demon to put her account on hold until she had moved to a new flat. No such luck. As soon as BT disconnected her phone line she received a demand for the balance of the contract which amounted to several hundred Pounds. No amount of reasoning ... more
