Direct Line and Sinker

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Cheap

...I am a dissatisfied Direct Line Rescue (ex)customer. I, like many others, took the time and effort to shop around for my motor insurance, when I got the lowest quote available on the market from ‘DL’, I was astonished to see that the premium was a LOT lower than the main rivals, so much so in fact, that upon speaking to one insurer to ask for a comparison, they asked who I had spoken to so far and the poor girl on the other end of the ...
...when the car wouldn’t! Direct Line Rescue, very helpfully declined assistance on the grounds that I was parked outside my own house and I didn’t have the right type of cover, the only course of action was to upgrade my cover, which I did. So, the next day, having had no means of transport for 24 hours whilst they made sure they were gonna get my money for the upgrade, I called again with my new policy number. “No problem sir, we ...

...shopping about, I came across direct line through the website, I had read alot of good reviews on the companies Breakdown service. What sold me the cover was > 10% discount for buying online > Average response time of around 40 minutes > No call out discount after one year > 8 out of ten cars fixed at the roadside with having a baby in the car alot this gave me peace of mind. what put me off the "big brand" breakdown companies was I had a policy ...

Directline to the rescue

Advantages: Cheap Cover
Disadvantages: Still waiting to see any

I've just read an op on Directline Rescue which was less than flattering shall we say. My own experience has been good so far. My husband and I bought our first little car about 4 months ago. I rang all the insurance agencies for quotes, to find that Directline wasn't only the cheapest but had great service. I don't actually drive, I've held a provisional licence for 12 years but never got any lessons. Directline actually lowered the premium when ...
...But I digress. This op is about their rescue service. Upon buying out M reg Ford Fiesta we decided to take it for a little spin as you do! Wanting to try all it's speeds out we headed for the motorway, where upon hitting the outside lane at about 80 miles per hour, the exhaust decided to 'drop off'. I had arranged for cover on the car to start at 7:30pm it was now about 8pm. We hastely pulled over and rang my husbands parents (who are with Directline ...

Highly Recommended

Advantages: Brilliant Service
Disadvantages: Average cost - but you get what you pay for.

Direct Line rescue are admittedly my first rescue company, although I would happily recommend them to anyone. I had to shop around and although I have since changed, this was merely because I couldn't afford to keep up the payments. I am not complaining, if I could afford to go with Direct Line again then I undoubtedly would, and their rates for older drivers are certainly very competitive, but not for younger drivers. I am only 18 and just switched, ...
...no I wasn't eloping!). Direct Line answered my call from a payphone and picked me up before taking me to my car over 3 miles away. They happily serviced it and found the problem counldn't be sorted - so they sorted me with a trip home and even got my car back too!. Superb. The second time was when I was nearer to home, breaking down on the M4. This time they arrived within 10 minutes of my call and sorted the car on the spot with minimal fuss and ...

Directline Break the Mould again

Advantages: good discounts
Disadvantages: dont know of any

I have been insured by Directline now for nearly five years, every time |I renewed my insurance they offered me the chance to join there breakdown service.I all ways refused as my cars were new and were already covered through another breakdown company. I have just purchased a second hand car, insured again through Directline and this time I have taken out Directline rescue. This was offered at a discount of 30% as i am already a valid customer, if ...
...month period you get an extra 10% off the next years premium. As far as I am aware, Directline are the only company to offer this discount. AS of yet i have not had to call them out, so can not tell you how reliable they are, but when I do I will let you know. I would certainly use this service again. You get a full cover service which includes (1) Road side assistance including 1 hour free labour (2) Home assistance (3) Priority assistance ...

who do they think they are

Advantages: none at all
Disadvantages: Somebody has to pay commision to Direct Line

Direct Line this, direct line that. I anticipate they have a hidden agenda.....to rule the World. O. K. So I have thrown a tantrum. They did do something for the car insurance market but at a price to us all. Unless you fit exactly the criteria set fro each company by its actuaries you probab;ly will not get a quote but instead have to trawl the secondary market and pay a hefty price to boot. You do not have to be a bad risk to fall in this category ...
...Of course they will be squeezed which means Green Flag will earn less per customer to pay for Direct Lines commission. So who will pay in the end. Probably Green Flags own and existing customers. Direct line of course will just grow fatter on the efforts of others. ...

The hazards of driving with pets in the car.

Advantages: 24-hour answering service.
Disadvantages: Will not carry pets in the cab of the breakdown vehicle, even if own vehicle has caught fire.

...I then phoned Direct Line and told them of the situation. I was first of all told to phone the Fire Brigade, and then I couldn't believe my ears. I was told that my two dogs would have to travel in my car on the back of the breakdown truck. When I reminded the operator that my car now had flames coming out of it, I was simply told "Oh, that's alright. The Fire Brigade will put the fire out and then your dogs can go back in the car". Direct Money transfers from your bank to theirs

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: unfair practices & prices

Whilst Direct Line used to be easily the cheapest car insurance they are now really not. Its so boring how insurers start cheap and then assume we're all too stupid to change our insurance policy operator. Direct Line are now expensiv and far more so than Tesco who use exactly the same underlying insurance company. Moreover, Direct line do automatic direct debit renewals. This means that if you don't contact them to terminate an insurance policy ...

I called up to cancel my car insurane and breakdown cover only to be told that it could only be cancelled during the last onth of the policy. I forgot during a house move. I did however cancel the direct debit instructions. Direct Line had the authority to automaticazlly renew the direct debit ...

...of by both I joined Direct Line Rescue accidentally. I applied for their insurance and was offered breakdown cover at a much lower rate than either of the other two could achieve. My main gripe with both the RAC and AA was that even when I had not used their service for a whole year my premiums seemed to rocket annually. Direct Line promised a discount if I did not need to use them (touch wood I haven't so far) I thought I needed them once and they ...

Quick review of Direct Line

Avoid! As a female traveller with a 5 year old it took FIVE HOURS from my initial call to directline breakdown hotline until recovery! We were stranded in the dark on a busy dual carriageway! They are incompetent, offered none of the options that they promise such as hire car for 24 hours, b&b accommodation, telephone calls to family/friends etc etc even though I have recovery plus. Shocking service and dangerous. ...

After negotiating that I could still keep the 'online' discount the guy proceeded to ask the normal insurance questions, 'when is you home content due etc etc...' Here we go I thought more junk mail a month before my current insurance finishes. Anyway, I decided to hear the fella out and found out if ...

Direct line... too slowness!

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: take too long on claims!

...got my car insured with direct line, after being recommened by a friend. the quote that i recieved was by far the cheapest i had got from other companies. i took out the policy, and was told that i would have my No claims bonus protected, and that i would also recieve a courtest car, should anything happen to my car. a few months later, i had an accident, through no fault of my own. i contacted direct line, and they said they would send a courtesy ...
...A Nissan Micra was sent out, however my car was not fixed. i had a bmw 320, and going from a bmw to a micra, is a big thing, so i called them back, to see the progress of my claim. no one had a clue on what was happening... 2 months later.. my car was fixed, with bad paint work... the point im trying to get at is that this company provides cheap quotes, im 22 and my quote on the bmw was 1200, which is cheap considering my car and my age. however, ...
