Direct Line and Sinker

AdvantagesCheap

DisadvantagesCheap

"...& Sinker’ I am a dissatisfied Direct Line Rescue (ex)customer. I, like many others, took the time and effort to shop around for my motor insurance, when I got the lowest quote available on the market from ‘DL’, I was astonished to see that the premium was a LOT lower than the main rivals, so much so in fact, that upon speaking to one insurer to ask for a comparison, they asked who I had spoken to so far and the poor girl on the ..." Directline Breakdown

AdvantagesCheap, Polite staff, speedy service, online purchase discount

Disadvantagesnone

"...shopping about, I came across direct line through the website, I had read alot of good reviews on the companies Breakdown service. What sold me the cover was > 10% discount for buying online > Average response time of around 40 minutes > No call out discount after one year > 8 out of ten cars fixed at the roadside with having a baby in the car alot this gave me peace of mind. what put me off the "big brand" breakdown companies was I ..." Directline to the rescue

AdvantagesCheap Cover

DisadvantagesStill waiting to see any

"I've just read an op on Directline Rescue which was less than flattering shall we say. My own experience has been good so far. My husband and I bought our first little car about 4 months ago. I rang all the insurance agencies for quotes, to find that Directline wasn't only the cheapest but had great service. I don't actually drive, I've held a provisional licence for 12 years but never got any lessons. Directline actually lowered the premium ..." Read review

Highly Recommended

AdvantagesBrilliant Service

DisadvantagesAverage cost - but you get what you pay for.

"Direct Line rescue are admittedly my first rescue company, although I would happily recommend them to anyone. I had to shop around and although I have since changed, this was merely because I couldn't afford to keep up the payments. I am not complaining, if I could afford to go with Direct Line again then I undoubtedly would, and their rates for older drivers are certainly very competitive, but not for younger drivers. I am only 18 and just switched, ..." Read review

"I have been insured by Directline now for nearly five years, every time |I renewed my insurance they offered me the chance to join there breakdown service.I all ways refused as my cars were new and were already covered through another breakdown company. I have just purchased a second hand car, insured again through Directline and this time I have taken out Directline rescue. who do they think they are

Advantagesnone at all

DisadvantagesSomebody has to pay commision to Direct Line

"Direct Line this, direct line that. I anticipate they have a hidden agenda.....to rule the World. O. K. So I have thrown a tantrum. They did do something for the car insurance market but at a price to us all. Unless you fit exactly the criteria set fro each company by its actuaries you probab;ly will not get a quote but instead have to trawl the secondary market and pay a hefty price to boot. You do not have to be a bad risk to fall in this category ..." Read review

The hazards of driving with pets in the car.

Advantages24-hour answering service.

DisadvantagesWill not carry pets in the cab of the breakdown vehicle, even if own vehicle has caught fire.

"...petrol. I then phoned Direct Line and told them of the situation. I was first of all told to phone the Fire Brigade, and then I couldn't believe my ears. I was told that my two dogs would have to travel in my car on the back of the breakdown truck. When I reminded the operator that my car now had flames coming out of it, I was simply told "Oh, that's alright. The Fire Brigade will put the fire out and then your dogs can go back in the car". When ..." Read review

Direct Money transfers from your bank to theirs

Advantagesnone

Disadvantagesunfair practices & prices

"Whilst Direct Line used to be easily the cheapest car insurance they are now really not. Its so boring how insurers start cheap and then assume we're all too stupid to change our insurance policy operator. Direct Line are now expensiv and far more so than Tesco who use exactly the same underlying insurance company. Moreover, Direct line do automatic direct debit renewals. This means that if you don't contact them to terminate an insurance policy ..." Read review

Direct Line Discount

Advantagescheaper than the big boys

Disadvantagesnone

"...of by both I joined Direct Line Rescue accidentally. I applied for their insurance and was offered breakdown cover at a much lower rate than either of the other two could achieve. My main gripe with both the RAC and AA was that even when I had not used their service for a whole year my premiums seemed to rocket annually. Direct Line promised a discount if I did not need to use them (touch wood I haven't so far) I thought I needed them once and they ..." Read review

Quick review of Direct Line Breakdown Service

"Avoid! As a female traveller with a 5 year old it took FIVE HOURS from my initial call to directline breakdown hotline until recovery! We were stranded in the dark on a busy dual carriageway! They are incompetent, offered none of the options that they promise such as hire car for 24 hours, b&b accommodation, telephone calls to family/friends etc etc even though I have recovery plus. Shocking service and dangerous.

CALM DOWN..Wrong topic..To be removed

AdvantagesNo fuss claims, great discounts for multiple cover

Disadvantagesnone yet

"...to get the best deal. Eventually, Direct Line came out on top and as I usually do I rang them to take up the insurance rather than complete online. After negotiating that I could still keep the 'online' discount the guy proceeded to ask the normal insurance questions, 'when is you home content due etc etc...' Here we go I thought more junk mail a month before my current insurance finishes. Anyway, I decided to hear the fella out and found out ..." Read review

No pay out

Advantagesnone that I could see

Disadvantagestoo many to mention

"...not received a penny from Direct Line who are in my oppinion stalling in order to try and make me drop the claim. WELL I AM NOT! It is now at the point that court proceedings are now in motion and court papers have been served to the woman who drove into me. I am planning to take this all the way if need be. My advise is don't insure your car with Direct Line they could land you up in court and to all other drivers I hope that if you ever have ..." Read review

Can't be trusted!

AdvantagesWas happy with service over 14 year period.

DisadvantagesCan't be trusted.

"After 14 years with Direct Line I have just cancelled my Motor Insurance policy. The renewal notice I received showed a year on year increase of 20%. On challenging this I was offered a small reduction (??) bringing the annual increase down to 14%! I found this totally unacceptable and informed Direct Line to cancel my renewal. Having shopped around I have now taken out a policy with AXA for 1.1% less then I paid Direct Line over the past year. Clearly ..." Read review

Direct line... too slowness!

AdvantagesCheap

Disadvantagestake too long on claims!

"...got my car insured with direct line, after being recommened by a friend. the quote that i recieved was by far the cheapest i had got from other companies. i took out the policy, and was told that i would have my No claims bonus protected, and that i would also recieve a courtest car, should anything happen to my car. a few months later, i had an accident, through no fault of my own. i contacted direct line, and they said they would send a courtesy ..."
