Having dyed my hair every colour on the spectrm from blonde, to brown, to black to pink I decided it was time to dye my locks red! My first attempt at doing this involved using a permenant red branded hair dye from Superdrug. I thought that because it was permenant my hair would stay vibrant and red for weeks on end but sadly this was not the case... it faded after a few washes and my hair was left dull and out of condition! Now first off, I feel the need to say thank you to smudgenskunk, as they inspired me to do this review. It's not exactly the 'everchanging colours of peace1989' but until i get there, this will have to do. So, now i've given smudgenskunk some free advertising, on with the review! I've dyed my hair quite a few colours and have therefore tried quite a few brands-concerning unnatural colours, and i've found this to be the best by far. La Riche DIRECTIONS Semi-Permanent Conditioning Hair Colour I have been using this range of hair-colour now for YEARS I've tried many others but always come back to this brand. It comes in a variety of fetching shades over the years I've tried, Flamingo Pink, Violet, Apple Green, Neon Blue..and there are plenty more colours and shades to choose from too. My favorite colour of choice has to be Pink, I like pink hair and I'm used to having pink hair -to me it looks strange NOT pink these days though you do get some funny looks and small children may be fascinated with you..."...But look mummy ... more

OK, I’ve put aside the chocolates, the coffee and the wine for a little while and ventured back into my bathroom – yep, this time the review is about another hair product! As my nearest and dearest, and many of you out there know, I am a hair dye addict and love to have my hair bright rainbow colours when it is not just bleached white. I’m always trying to find one that gives a vibrant result without fading too quickly as none of the primary shades are available as a permanent dye (not easily anyway) and they are all semi-permanent but the “fade-factor” can vary enormously from brand to brand ... more

Disadvantages Bad Instructions, Fades fairly quickly, Bleach first

I have been dying my hair every colour under the sun for the past six years now and for three of those had always gone to a local hair dressers to have it done professionally. For one I could never find any shops where I live that actually sold the products and I always found I got a better result when going to a salon. That was until I found Directions. When moving away to university I found not only did I not have the money to be getting my hair dyed at the hair dressers but that dyes where much more readily available to me. I used to dye my hair with a permanent black hair dye. I then had to get it stripped and it took forever. My hair was then brown, a colour I find extremely boring. It wasn't long before I was looking for more exciting colours to dye my hair. I stumbled across La Riche Directions in Quiggins in Liverpool. Quiggins is an unusual shop where Goths/Emo's buy clothes, make up etc. I asked if they sold hair dye and was given a folder with all the different colours of La Riche Directions hair dye that they stocked. Advantages Best product out there, some of the colours are very bright.
Disadvantages Doesnt last long enough, can be drippy and messy

I've been dying my hair various colours for a looong time now, and sadly it is now nie impossible to get Crazy Colours and Jerome Russell B Vibrant is absolutely awful, it never goes the colour you want it to! In fact I usually end up buying another tub of Directions, which is incidently the subject of this opinion! Directions comes in a huge range of colours which can be mixed and matched to create new ones. This is especially important if you want to get a good blue colour, Lagoon Blue and Atlantic Blue offers the best result, but your hair does really need to be bleached to get the full ... more

I love La Riché Directions hair dyes! The passionate reds, cheerful yellows, deep purples... aah. For years I searched for bright, abnormal hair colours that actually would last longer than a couple of washes, but it wasn't until Directions that I found my perfect match. True love story indeed. I've been changing my hair colour since I was 13 yrs (a good 12 yrs on and running), and you can believe me I have been there and done that. Disadvantages can be hard to find, more expensive than other brands

As a 21 year old student it's my duty to dye my hair mad colours! And I've tried many a brand but im now faithful to the Directions range! I first came across directions when I joined uni in Leicester. I wanted to get blue put in my hair but as I have very dark hair it needs bleaching first so I always do this at the hairdressers! Advantages Easy to apply, good price, easy to store, ideal amount, awesome colour, great conditioning
Disadvantages Can stain, some colours do not last long enough, does not provide additional equipment

Applying this product involves a brush for hair-dyeing purposes (or the painting kind, if it is clean and you are that desperate) and a pair of hands covered in plastic gloves either saved from an old hair-dye kit, obtained from the supermarket or made from small food bags. I did not have a brush to hand on any occasion and have always used plastic food bags or plastic gloves, but they still protect your hands from becoming colourful. Before applying the product, make sure that you shampoo your hair and towel dry it. This must be done to ensure that your hair accepts as much colour as possible ... more
