    Twice that happened to me! Life after death is the question and yes I believe. This is my 2nd review and I am registered disabled. I have been since 1993/4 (no sympathy thanks its ok) and in that year I had 1 experience and again a few years later. One very brief and the other very very scary. The 1st happened after I got out of hospital. I was still very unwell and was laid up downstairs on the settee. I had lost 5 stone in weight in 1 year and couldn't walk without the help of my wife and a walking stick; I was only 31 years old! Picture the rooms! We lived in a top flat in Edinburgh.     This debate has been staring at me pretty much since I joined Ciao, just over a month ago. I finally decided to put down on paper how I feel about it. It’s not easy, especially when I go through periods of believing to not-believing – although I tend to be somewhere in between. I am not sure of how or when I had the perception of death.     Interesting debate this life after death stuff. Just thought I'd give my 2 pence worth. I've had a few beers this lunchtime so my argument may seem a bit disjointed so please bear with me but this is not the ramblings of a lunchtime drunk. This is something that has been growing as an argument or theory in my head for about the last 10 years or so. Its not quite complete.     The debate about whether or not there could be an afterlife or some kind of reincarnation has been present for centuries, unfortunately there will probably only ever be circumstantial evidence to support either side of the argument; however people will always have their theories. Personally I do not believe in life after death, I believe that we only get one chance, and one life, I believe that we should make the most of what we have been blessed with.     KNOWELDGE vs. BELIEF ----------------------------------- I'm a history teacher. My job dictates, and my life follows, that we can only discuss things of which we have firm evidence. Now, whether that evidence comes from a "biased" source or not is by-the-by. After all, isn't knowing that someone has a certain interpretation of facts actually more useful than hearing only hearing a vague comment from someone of whom we know very little?     Is this life all there is? Is it true that when we die, that's it - no more us? Or do we live on after death, continuing to experience things in new realms? Do we have some sort of immaterial "soul" which is actually the origin of our minds and consciousness now?     I've always been brought up to believe in religion and follow the faith of Christianity. Although I believe that there are other ways to praise despite going to church every Sunday and Wednesday nights. I've just never really understood why people do this. I'll try and avoid ranting in this because my grandparents are the most religious people ever, everything they say or do has to revolved around god or something to do with religion.     Oh such a contentious issue, one that mankind since it became self aware has asked itself. Where do we come from? Why are we here? Where do we go when we die?
