I've done Atkins before - about... um, a year ago to this date and saw rapid consistent weight loss but after about 7 days I had gout and was totally ill. Can't say it was Atkins for sure but let's just say when I went off the 'diet' I got better in under 48 hours. Hmm. Sick of the Atkins

Advantages: weight loss and health benefits for diabetics etc.

I seem to be going against the grain here so I conclude I am a rare case (as I often am when it comes to health issues) but Atkins just made me sick. Yes, I lost weight, but at what cost? I like a bit o' meat and two veg, me!!

Advantages: You lose weight and are healthier if you follow the program!!
Disadvantages: A lot of people think its unhealthy so try to discourage you from trying it

I was a bit unsure of doing the Atkins diet as I had heard that the Atkins would do more harm than good, you put all the weight back on, your breath will smell etc etc. But I figured I'll buy the book and at least see for myself what he has to say rather than rely on other's opinion.
