Anyone Seen a Lost Dog?

Advantages: great childrens book
Disadvantages: slightly dated illistrations

Dogger by Shirley Hughes After another recent trip to the library I found this book that look ever so familiar to me. I didn't think to much about it at the time but when I got home and began to read it to Jack I realised that this was one of the many books that I had read or indeed owned when I was a lot younger. The Bodley Head Children's Books first published the book way back in 1977. The RRP on the back of the book is £7.99pence but this copy ...
...called Dogger. He took Dogger everywhere he went and really did love that little stuffed animal. Even though he was loosing fur in places and his ears were all wonky Dogger was Dave's pride and joy. Dave's mum would wash Dogger from time to time when she thought that he was getting far too dirty for Dave to be cuddling and after washing him she would hang him up on the washing line by his ear. On a trip to collect Dave's older sister from school ...

Woof

Advantages: Sweet story, amazing pictures
Disadvantages: It's sad!

...Shirley Hughes is awesome. Dogger is a one off story, but she’s also written several series – the Alfie books are good, the Lucy and Tom ones great (especially the Christmas and Starting School stories). All the books are fun tales, beautifully told, and they come with lovely drawings too. The pictures are all done by her, and she also illustrated various other people’s works – most notably, the My Naughty Little Sister books. ...
...a book like this. Dogger is the tale of a little boy called Dave who lives somewhere in England with his mum and dad, and big sister Bella. “Dogger” is his beloved toy dog, who acts as a sort of security blanket for him. Bella has a whole row of teddies on her bed – so many she can barely fit in herself – but Dave only wants Dogger. When the unthinkable happens, and Dogger goes missing, Dave is distraught. The wonderful ...

How much is that Dogger on the toy stall

Advantages: Classic children's book, lovely illustrations
Disadvantages: A little bit sad, perhaps a bit sentimental

...it, called Dogger. Dave takes Dogger everywhere, sometimes tied on a piece of string like a real dog on a lead. His big sister Bella has a row of teddies on her bed; so many that she can hardly fit in the bed herself, but Dave just has Dogger. One day Dave and his Mum, with Dogger in tow of course, go to pick up Bella from school. It is the day before the school fete, so marquees and bunting are being put up. Dave and Dogger go to over to the railings ...
...kids brains I think) and Dogger is left behind! When Dave gets home and realises Dogger is dog-gone, he gets quieter...and quieter...and going to bed without Dogger there just isn't the same. The next day, at the school fete, Dave sadly looks at the other children having fun, winning prizes and playing games, but he can't be happy without Dogger. Eventually Dogger is found - on the toy stall! He had evidently been found where Dave had dropped him, ...
