More K.Lumsy Than K.Rool

AdvantagesNice graphics, huge environments, decent boss battles, long play time

DisadvantagesCamera and platform elements a bit sloppy, a collect-a-thon

"*A review of Donkey Kong 64 for the N64 which primarily focuses on the single-player experience.* King K. Rool is on the verge of destroying the Kong Isle with his Blast-o-Matic, when it fails. Thankfully, his underlings have a plan in which they capture the Kongs and their Golden Bananas, so that if the Kongs escape they'll not do so without their bananas, hence buying them time to fix up the Blast-o-Matic. Cranky's right kids - the story is a ..." Read review

Rare Do It Again

AdvantagesTotally absorbing gameplay

DisadvantagesReturning to previous levels with new characters can be tedious

"...incredibly popular Banjo Kazooie is Donkey Kong, yet another gaming masterpiece that should appeal to all the family. The game is a massive free roaming adventure, there are many levels and secret areas to find and explore, lots to see and do and incredibly playable! Some might at first find the whole game a little overwhelming as there is so much to collect and do, but you soon become familiar with the different items and moves, and gameplay ..." Read review

Adventure of the kongs

AdvantagesAmazing Graphics, Great Gameplay, Excellent Multiplayer

DisadvantagesNone

"...games in the past and Donkey Kong 64 is definitely the best of the lot. This game is very close to what is known as the PERFECT game; amazing graphics; remarkable gameplay; cool kongs; great sound; and the best multiplayer mode ever. Unlike all DK games in the past, this game is quite different. King K. Rool has stolen all the golden bananas and captured all the kongs, except Donkey Kong, from DK Isles and is planning to blow up the island. Fortunately ..." Read review

Monkeying Around In 64Bit

AdvantagesMASSIVE Gametime

DisadvantagesA Little Too Massive

"...definitely the game for you. Donkey Kong’s back with new family members, who each have their own unique abilities. The Donkey Kong game on the Snes was revolutionary in the fact that Rare had used to 3D modelling to create amazing characters who looked like they should be on a 32-bit computer. The game was a sell-out. Now comes the 4th game in the series, Donkey Kong 64. Will this be just as revolutionary? First off are the new characters. ..." Read review

Almost too good

AdvantagesThe graphics, the sound, th playability....Everything

DisadvantagesNothing

"Rare spared no expense recreating Kong for the third dimension. A huge quest, intuitive controls, deep mechanics, mini-games, relentless exploration, five different characters to play with and knockout graphics. Players begin as Donkey, acquiring basic moves in a training level. From there, it's all exploration--picking up bananas, medals, and more, rescuing the four other Kongs, conquering puzzles and mini-games, and continuing the quest. DK64 ..." Read review

DK fanchise runs out of steam

AdvantagesLooks good, good music, BIG game

Disadvantagespoor gameplay, lack of originality

"...and VERY playable series of Donkey Kong Country on the SNES it is a great disappointment to have such an unoriginal, repetitive and sometimes boring game representing the great ape on the N64. Taking the concept of the 2D platformer and moving it into 3D like "Mario 64" Rare have created a technically proficient but soulless game. Start the game with Donkey Kong and pick up 4 other family members along the way - each one has special skills suited ..." Read review

Donkey Kong - King of the N64

AdvantagesExcellent game

DisadvantagesSome parts you really need to practice at

"I had DK64 as a present for Christmas last year and didn't stop playing it for weeks. It is one of the most addictive games I have ever played. In basic terms it is a 3D platform game but in reality it is much more than that. Each world is so huge it takes ages just exploring them let alone finding what you are looking for. Every time you start the game you are told what percentage you have completed which gives you something to aim at. The ..." Read review

Donkey Kong

AdvantagesGraphics, Gameplay, Addictive

DisadvantagesCamera, DK Arcade, Expansion Pac if you have one

"The first thing you get when turning on the cart was actually quite a surprise to me. You get three minutes of...a rap song, introducing DK and his friends to you. This isn't actually bad, and sets the scene for the rest of the game fairly well. Yet another Rare game, this is one of their best games so far. One thing that strikes you from the start is how similar to Banjo Kazooie this is. It is very similar, but different enough to be well worth the ..." Read review

exellent platformer

Advantagesgreat graphics and fun to play

Disadvantagescan only be bought new with an expansion pack

"This was the game of the year in my view when it was realesed. But i still dont think that it was better than Rare's fellow platformer , Banjo Kazooie. I felt that although DK64 had lots of original ideas it seemed to also steal a lot from Banjo Kazooie. However DK64 had the all important multiplayer and a great one at that. Despite what many reviews said about the multiplayer , i felt that it was excelent and so did my friends. Another area where ..." Read review

Quite a challenge

AdvantagesGreat fun to play. Challenging

DisadvantagesFlying through rings with Diddy is too hard!

"...King K Rool has kidnapped Donkey Kong's buddies, and stolen his gold bananas. So you take on the part of Donkey Kong and try to find your bananas. Once you've freed the other Kongs, you can also play the game as each of them. There's Diddy Kong, Tiny Kong, Lanky Kong and Strong Kong. Using their different abilities you'll be able to reach different areas to collect the gold bananas. The game is played over 8 levels, with each level hiding 25 gold ..." Read review

A super duper game

Advantageslots of fun

Disadvantagesnothing much

"When I first played this I thought it was the bees knees! I knwo Nintendo 64 seems very prehistoric due to every year there being a new console out, which is extremely annoying. However, I feel that this game is just the greatest platform, feel maybe not THE best but one of them. I thought the graphics were nice and bright and were comical as well as entertaining. They had chucky and blocky graphics, but still it seems really fun to play. THe overall ..." Read review

Donkey KING!

AdvantagesGreat Graphics, Harder Puzzles

DisadvantagesToo long and drawn out, no originality

"When I first bought DK, I was just expecting another Banjo Kazooie, which I really enjoyed. At first I was pleasantly surprised, as the game did seem to be a bit more enjoyable, with better graphics and harder puzzles. However, after playing constantly for about 4 or 5 days, it all started to seem like work. I felt that the game started to lose all its enjoyment, which was really a great disappointment to me. Not to say that the game is not very good, ..." Read review

DK64 - better than the SNES?

AdvantagesGreat graphics, quite addictive

DisadvantagesWeak multiplayer, requires expansion pak

"...an impact as the first Donkey Kong on the SNES in terms of graphics but i think it still moved the N64 games to new levels in that it was the first game to need the expansion and the game had some of the best graphics seen on the N64, only just beaten by Rare's latest game, 'Perfect Dark'. This game has a good storyline, a satisfactory multiplayer and lots of mini-games that you'll want to play over and over again. These however have to be unlocked ..." Read review

Advantagessmooth graphics

Disadvantagesno games last forever

"I find it hard to believe that a lot of people didn't think that "Donkey Kong 64" deserved all the hype that it got. It's one of the best 3D action/adventure games for the Nintendo 64 and I didn't see anything bad about it. Of course, the graphics are the best part of it, but the sound, control, and fun factor are also very good. Best of all, the game has great replay value. It's not that easy of a game to beat, especially if you're trying to get ..." Read review

Donkey Kong 64

AdvantagesYou can save at any point inthe game which means you can play for as long or as short as you want.

DisadvantagesSome times makes you dizzy

"Now this is what I call a game, it has good graphics a simple yet effective story and not too complex. The game starts with K. Rool (a lizard) invading Kong Island, stealing all the golden bananas and imprisoning your friends. You (Donkey Kong) have to free your friends and retrieve the golden bananas. You can recruit another 4 members to your crew who will collect bananas, blueprints and medals. There are 8 huge worlds for you to explore and in each ..." Read review
