Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) version 5 is the latest version of this hugely popular download utility. If, like me, you spend a lot of time downloading files from the net then you will probably have heard of these utilities before. Gozilla is a well known variety of this kind of program.
So why choose DAP? Basically, it does exactly what it claims to do. I have a dial up connection with a 56k modem and a 2 hour cut off on my ISP. If you have something ... ...download anything of a reasonably large file size. DAP solved that problem for me.
First and foremost, I really did notice a significant difference to my download speed. Files leapt on to my machine 3 to 4 times faster than they previously did. My partner commented on the fast download times before she even knew I'd installed DAP so it wasn't just because I was looking for a speed increase. I could not believe the difference it made.

...used quite a lot of download managers, and Download Accelerator is the best. Its easy to use, and actually speeds up downloads. And, of course, its free (it uses adverts on the program to gerenate revenue, but these don't disturb).
The primary purpose in a download manager is to allow you to resume file downloads. If you download lots of file you'll no doubt have been accidently disconnected from the internet, and screamed in horror at the realisation ... ...again. If you'd been using Download Accelerator, you'd just log on again and carry on from where the download left off. Some websites don't support download resume, and with most download managers this would put you backto square one, but Download Accelerator has a clever feature where they download the file onto their super-fast server in a few seconds, and then you download it from them, allowing you to resume again.

My first download manager was Go!Zilla, but it fell out of favour when it started crashing, spying on me, etc, etc. For a full list of my issues with Go!Zilla, read the review I wrote on it. Anyway, when I'd uninstalled the offending lizard, I needed a replacement. I found Download Acclerator Plus, or DAP as it likes to refer to itself, and it's the business.
First great thing about DAP is that it's freeware. Download Accelerator is available completely free of charge. I found out about through the information pages on MP3.com, but it is available to download direct from www.downloadaccelerator.com, or www.speedbit.com. They both go to the same site. Once there, simply download the copy you want. I'm running version 4.2, but currently they are distributing the beta version of version 4.3. It's unlikely to be much better ... ...remains before completing your first download is to set up the program to work with your system. There are so many options that can be tweeked here to get the most out of it, but most will never get used. Firstly, you can tell it how to connect to the internet, using your standard dial-up connection. So, rather than having to startup Internet Explorer (or whatever), you simply run Download Accelerator, and it connects for you.

...increase the speed of my download speed from a mere drizzle of data at all, never mind to a huge torrent… That was before I laid my eyes on this latest version of Download Accelerator.
I have used other download enhancement applications before (such as Go!Zilla) none of which made any difference to download times. I even used an older version of Download Accelerator about two years ago and found it to be a bit useless. The only reason I tried ... ...first time. I was wrong. Download Accelerator has improved significantly over the last few years and while before it was ineffective for me, now I can say truthfully that the speed at which it downloads is truly amazing. For example, I can now download mp3 files (generally around 3.5MB in size) over my dial-up connection in about 10 minutes as opposed to half an hour before.

...the use of the Lidan Download Accelerator, you are able to substantially speed up your connection to the server in which you are downloading from, through the use of combination strings, which allow you to reach a maximum level of transfer at a constant rate. All this basically allows your 56K modem to reach speeds where in theory it would be comparitive to a 75K modem or something that's a lot faster than the industry standard 56K. In addition to ... ...where you can resume your download process at. Very very useful in that sense.
The only problem with this program is that you do have to put up with a little advertiser window, but that's because it's free. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather have an advertiser in my status window than actually have to download the program once a month, or actually buy a copy of it. If you are paying for your Internet connection this can be very costly, well that’s where the excellent Download Accelerator Plus comes in, to show you what an excellent tool it is.
Firstly regarding the first problem, namely the disconnection whilst downloading, well Download Accelerator has a superbly useful utility called ... ...speed to which these sites download at, Excellent obviously being the best one.
I think this program is an essential tool for anyone who regularly uses the Internet and I strongly recommend it to everyone, I know there are lots of other similar tools available, but I find this by far the easiest to use and the most reliable.

...I decided I would give Download Acceleator a try. I was astounded to find it actually works! You aren't going to suddenly get ISDN speeds on your 56K modem, but I have noticed an overall increase of about 0.3 on my NTL connection. I can expect about 4.5 download speeds now, as opposed to the 3.0 - 4.0 speeds I was experiencing before.
So how does it work? Well, what it does is two-fold. Firstly, it checks other download and FTP sites for the file ... ...site to download from. If you find the download slowing, you can switch do a different server (if available) during the download. It also breaks the download up into smaller chunks - usually four, this allows it to open four seperate connections and get the most out of your bandwidth. It can even download the same file from four different sites for maximum speeds.

Have you ever been downloading a file on the net and then at 97%, DISASTER! Your Internet connection dies and you have wasted an hour and a half of your time (and money.)
It is a small program that can be downloaded from www.speedbit.com. It is around 1MB and shouldn't take long with any 56kb modem (or above.)
I have Download Accelerator (or DAP) v5.0. This is the latest version. It claims that it can accelerate your ... ...than the usual default windows download program. However do not be dejected as the main benefit of DAP is the resume/pause facility.
This is extremely useful, although not unique. It allows the user to pause a download any way through the process. This is useful for people who use ISPs such as ntlworld who 'cut you off' after two hours. Download accelerator (DA) is a very handy download manager. It is a freeware program avaiable to download from most freeware sites or from www.downloadaccelerator.com.
It has many useful features, here are some of them:
Always-resume - this will allow you to pause a download at any time and reumse downloading it at a later date.
400% faster download - I don't think it is quite that good, we all know the time is linked with are bandwidth. It splits ... ...can leave your computer to download all the files you want, without having to be there to start each one off.
Summary:
Download Accelerator is very useful, it allows me to line up all the downloads I want and download them at a time good for me. If you download lots of MP3, this software is very good to manage all your downloads especially.
I you haven't used one of these programs before, or you use one but fancy a change, try it out. It's free ...
