Advantages: Beautiful, epic, gigantic, evocative, endearing and I'm running out of superlatives Disadvantages: Those accustomed to PS2 RPG's will notice a lack of neon-lights and stupid hair-do's
Just how big is Dragon Quest in Japan? It's very big indeed - in fact it's something approaching a phenomenon. It's sales figures point to this; in it's battles with Final Fantasy, it has regularly trounced its RPG rival. Dragon Quest VII was the highest-selling PSOne game ever, which is especially impressive as the game was never even released in Europe. Most brilliantly though, there is a law against releasing a new DQ title in Japan on a weekday, ... ...An impressive history, and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey Of The Cursed King, the first of the series 'main' titles to be released in the UK, continues to expand on the franchises eye-poppingly impressive figures. Its sold over six million units in Japan (apparently twice as many copies Halo 2 shifted in the US), is Japan's top-selling PlayStation2 title and has reached 'Platinum' status in the UK. But is this massive following justified?
In a word, ...

Advantages: Pretty, fun and easy to play. Disadvantages: The save system and the strangly adult themes.
...The official website for Dragon Quest is www.dragonquest.eu.com/english/index.htm. The site is really cool with loads of information about the game and the characters as well as downloads like wallpapers and even a competition. Dragon Quest VII: The Journey of the Cursed King, (DQ), is made by Square Enix, (www.square-enix.com/eu/en/index_f2.html), the very same fabulous people who make Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. Being a huge fan of both of ... ...had never heard of the Dragon Quest range of games before this and I haven’t really looked into it either but this has in no way hampered my enjoyment of the game. I have a feeling that this is done in a similar way to the Final Fantasy games where each game is a completely new story in a new world and with new characters.

Like most RPG's Dragon Quest is packed with sub quests, there is an arena where you capture monsters and make a team to fight them there. There is a casino, with slots, bingo and roulette. There is also a sub quest where you must search the world for mini medals. All of the above can be vital to the progress of your game as you can acquire rare and valuable items from them.

*A review of Dragon Quest: Journey of the Cursed King for the PlayStation 2.*
An old skool style RPG, where only at churches can you save the game and check how much experience is required to level up. The game's camera can be rotated but you can also see the sights of this immersive world for yourself through first-person view. There are numerous NPCs to talk to, troves of treasure to be discovered, and the cows can be milked too!
With not much ... ...the finishing line.
Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King can take around sixty hours to complete - tackling the optional tasks can see this time go into triple figures! Those little load times do add up, but there's more than plenty of play time for the patient. ...

Advantages: Simple to Play, Lovely Graphics & Engaging Story Disadvantages: Very old School RPG
I have been playing RPG's now for many years including all the Final Fantasy Games. This RPG game is simple in that you don't 200+ characters & no complex upgrade system for levelling up. Just nice and easy to follow upgrades.
The new features it brings to the game are there like the alchemy pot which lets you make your own items or the Monster Arena where you can fight with your own team of monsters but these are introduced slowly into the game.
... ...Dholmagus attack the King & casts an evil curse on the King & her Daughter. Your Journey is basically to track down Dholmagus & remove the curse. Nice & simple you think but along the way you come across so many quests & missions.
The graphics are very good it's like a SNES game but made for the PS2 with all it's power, when you first step onto the world map you see the lush green enviroments. You also have a day/night effect in this game which ...

Advantages: Simple Combat, good graphics Disadvantages: May be too cute for some
Finally Dragon Quest officially in the UK. If you've never heard of Dragon Quest i'm not suprised. If you have seen this game don't let the who cute appearance and style fool you this is a very good game. It is very simple no complex menu or level up system just basic battle and level up. The random battles aren't as frequent as some RPG's and you can sometimes clear a room without battling. The level up system offers a basic stats system plus you ... ...you new moves. It may bee to cute for some gamers but for people who are looking for a good game that offers you a decent life span I would definetly recommend this game. The story is that the king has been cursed and you are tracking down the guy who did it in order to turn, in classic RPG style the bad guy takes control of the kingdom and starts wreaking hovok.
