As with GTA, Driver gives the player full freedom to go anywhere at anytime within the city boundaries. Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York have all been digitised with varying degrees of success, and at the very least you should be able to spot a host of landmarks in each one. The story involves an cop called Tanner (you) who goes undercover as a driver in the criminal underworld. You are given missions, from basic drops and ... ...And what gameplay it is. Driver is, initially, insanely addictive. Just messing about with the action-replay feature or the several different ?driving games? available from the options menu provides ample enjoyment, and the cities are big enough to make simply cruising around fun (although the cops, who attempt to ram into you without regard for the safety of themselves or others, make staying legal too strenuous). The look and feel of the game are ...

Advantages: Reasonable gameplay Disadvantages: Bores to easily
A nice concept but very poorley executed. YOU can only stay in the one car which gets exceptionally boring. I feel that it was an attempt at a 1st person game Grand Theft Auto. But the plot just isnst right, the game runs very jittery on certain 3dfx cards and the game itself gets boring almost instantly. The sounds are also very predictable and unvaired, with very unrealistic worlds.
To be perfectly honest there arent any plus sides to this game, ... ...a very limited output. The gameplay is monotonous more than anything else, being confined to one car, not just per level but per game means that after a certain amount of game play its like watching TV rather than playing the game you have so little effect on the game itself. I feel that all the complex 3d programming went to waste, the game itself is very high spec but just doesnt deliver.
A bad game. ...

Advantages: Novelly appealing initially Disadvantages: Repetitive, no sense of progression or achievement, unchallenging
At first play this game is very good. There's a definite appeal to chasing around the backstreets following the hit car. Unfortunately the appeal is 100% novelty, and as soon as you've played the game a few times you're never likely to touch it again. I've had the game quite a while now, and I did enjoy the first game I had, but I quickly began to lose interest as the game is simply not challenging, offers no sense of achievement or progression, ...

Advantages: great to play at any time Disadvantages: You might get bored
Driver for the P.C. is a great game with life like graphics. The game play is also top notch with great control and best of all carnage mode which is a small game in which you ram the other cars and score points. It’s quite hard to do the start of the undercover mode which is the main game. Which you have to do tasks to help the bad guys and if you get the car bashed up too much you fail and there are also other ways of failing but I ain’t going ...

Advantages: Break The Law Without Going to Jail, Great Gameplay, Superb Graphics Disadvantages: Superhuman AI Ruins Game, No Multiplayer, Unrealistic Cities, Idiotic Requirements
...things that was hyped about Driver was the city maps it'd use. They toted the presence of landmarks and realistic street plans. Well, the landmarks are there but their arranged within totally unrealistic maps. I guess it's unfair to expect true-to-life street grids, but it's still disappointing for them to be absent. Also, the scenery for the cities is the typical deal: repeat the same buildings over and over again. Boring.
- Patronizing: In order ... ...driving test. I've played Gran Turismo...no big deal. But it is a big deal because the test is basically impossible. Instead of having you practice techniques step-by-step as in Gran Turismo, they throw you into an unlit, underground garage and tell you to execute a half-dozen intricate maneuver in like two minutes. To compound this idiocy, you can't practice without a time limit. To compound this even further, you can't drive in New York and LA ...

Advantages: Great fun games - and chases Disadvantages: Bugs, Mission mode
...critics had a go at Driver when it first came out on PC, and yes, the movie-sequences are terrible, and there are a hell of alotta bugs, but if you have a fast PC - you can get a FANTASTIC game. The car physics are what really makes it - pulling handbrake turns, burnouts, doughnuts, everything , as you try to lose the police.
The undercover mode is the main bit - where you get missions - the FMVs don't actually work on my v. fast PC with Savage4, ... ...it is a marvellous game - the thrills you get having turned down a little alleyway and watched the police completely miss it in you rear mirror, are second to none - with some bugs on the mission mode.
Don't buy it now though - wait for Driver 2. ...

driver is, as a concept, a brillaintly origional idea for a game, like the film the driver and the film bullet. But the more I play the more I hate because it seems like a rush job. The first leval is so ruff you have to burn around a car park in about a minute doing stunts and it takes ages for to find out what keys to ...

Advantages: Intelligent cops, good missions, fast cars Disadvantages: Few music tracks, car damage is perhaps a little too realistic
In Driver you play an undercover cop infiltrating the ranks of a criminal underground posing as a getaway driver. But the story’s not important, what matters is that the game lets you hurtle round the highways and alleyways of four major US cities in 1970’s muscle cars. Taking its inspiration from all those cops ‘n’ robbers films of the seventies, Driver creates an excellent action racing game in which you, similarly to Grand Theft Auto, complete ... ...should be able to run Driver with few problems. The sound isn’t bad, and the music is quite good and is very ‘seventies’ – although there are only four tracks. Other than the main missions, you can also play checkpoint races, getaways and the like, although these mini-games are nothing in comparison to the main game – which is fast, reckless action-filled driving fun. ...

Advantages: Refreshingly different driving game. Disadvantages: Can become repetitive.
Driver was a big hit on the playstation and this is one PC conversion that doesn't disappoint (for a change). From the moment you start Driver for the first time the scenario is set for a driving game with a big difference. It combines the realism of Midtown Madness with the fun of Grand theft Auto. You play a cop called Tanner who has to infiltrate gangs to find out information about criminal activity. You earn the trust of the gangs by doing driving ... ...off people, being a getaway driver, ram raiding and even scaring passengers in your car! It's alot of fun but skillful driving comes into it too so this should suit most people. I had a lot of fun playing this game, you have 4 cities with numerous missions in each and when (or if!) you complete the game you get access to all of the vehicles in the game (including the police car and taxi) plus you get to drive around the riverside area of Newcastle! ...

The missions themselves are all fairly similar, and usually involve driving from A to B in a set time, or following another car. You have to avoid the police - if they see you commit a crime, the will start to chase you and ram your car. If your car gets wrecked, ... ...time.
Driver's graphics are good, although it does suffer noticeably from pop-up, particularly on long streets. The handling of the cars is responsive, although the cars seem to weigh virtually nothing, which means they can be rolled over very easily.
All in all, Driver is worth buying. ...
