A slightly irrelevant but metaphorically relevant introduction The slightly psycho psychotherapist I’m seeing tends to see every event in my life as being a metaphor for something with deeper meaning. The trip on the ‘looney-bin bus’ is symbolic of the journey in my life (no, really it’s just a bus), removing a spider from my house shows that I’m removing the spiders from my life, and well…it goes on. I recently damaged my Dyson DC 04. We had it 8 years and I must admit that I hadn't been very gentle with it. It was quite heavy and used to find it quite difficult carrying it up and down the stairs and often banged it against the wall or the banister. A few bits had broken off it, and, to top it all off I dropped it down the stairs. I did manage to get the hose bit working but unfortunately it wouldn't work when it was upright. My Purchase **************** There are a few different versions of the DC-19 model on the market so I’m keen to point out that this review is about the DC-19 Allergy, which is not to be confused with the DC19i, Origin or Animal models. As much as I liked the look of the Dyson Ball vacuum that had been advertised a lot on the TV I decided to go for something more compact and light that could get into tight spaces. When my old Dyson decided to die on me (I had had it for years), was also the evening that my two girls decided to pour all the hamster bedding all over the new carpet! The Dyson DC19 is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever used. It comes with a 5 year guarantee and we've probably had ours near to that amount of time now but it does not need replacing any time soon and I can see it lasting for a great number of years yet. We have all seen the television advertisements for the Dyson and know how good their are and how much design and technology go into producing one. I have had my Vax cleaner for about 25 years and although it still does the job and has not broken down yet it is,sadly,the worse for wear. One of the wheels has come off and the hose does not fit properly anymore so the suction is not as good as it should be. Whilst shopping in Sainsbury's I happened to see a Dyson DC 19 on sale for £130 and decided that I was in need of a new vacuum cleanert. This vacuum is amazing truly amazing, I have never known suction like it, and it can pick up a basketball. Having had many normal back filtered vacuum cleaners in the past of various makes and prices and warn them out in varying degrees of time it was indeed time to bite the bullet and try something everyone raves about and nobody has a bad word for other then how expensive they are. I LOVE my Dyson DC19! I paid £119.99 from LX Direct and I have also seen this great price in my local Sainsburys so it pays to shop around. This is by far the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned and I have owned MANY ( cats, dog, kids, big house, cars etc), any cleaner in this house is bound to take a bashing and I usually find that the brushes fall apart, or the hoses split and it ends up looking like a comedy of errors held together with duct tape, but not this one!! So, what do I like most? Not having to continually buy dust bags has to be a major factor, and saves a lot of money. Being ... more

Disadvantages Not easy to store, specific storing method!

This is quite a popular vacuum as a lot of people i know have this particular one!!! One feature i hate, always will and always have is the storage method!!! you basically roll the vacuum head into a little concave indent! This means you also have to have the specific head on it!!! You cant stow it away with any other head except the man one! Even then it is so large to put into a cupboard or something! However it is relatively simple to use! Great suction power and ours hasn't lost any yet! Cable length is great and it has a cable retraction button so you don't have to worry about winding it ... more

I have been using Dyson's 1400 watt DC19 vacuum cleaner for about a year now. It is without doubt a superb product, but there are still a few things that could be improved with the design. I tried out several other brands of compact vacuum cleaner before buying this model and always ended up taking them back. None of them had the DC19's suction power. The DC19 is light (17.75lbs) and easily manoeuvrable. It's four tools include a flat head attachment, which is great for reaching under cupboards and beds.
