3 Stars Dyson's Cart Horse Review with images 13/08/2011

Advantages Advantages Excellent suction, durable, easy to maintain

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very heavy, very noisy, bulk makes reaching some parts tricky

I was brought up in a house which was cleaned by an Electrolux vacuum. My mother, and her mother for that matter, loved the brand and as soon as I got my first home in the late 80s, I purchased an Electrolux for myself. Ever since that fateful decision, made around 1989, I found myself in need of a new vacuum cleaner roughly every two to three years. I purchased several different brands in that period including Sanyo and Panasonic but eventually, after a rather expensive Panasonic died on me quite predictably after owning it for two years, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Dyson. My ... more

    Advantages Advantages Superb suction power

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very heavy and will not vacuum wooden or laminate floors

Over the years I have probably spent an arm and a leg on vacuum cleaners; all of which have failed me in some way or other. My latest model is the Dyson DC04, which so far, has served me fairly well for the past five years. However, I would state that this is my third Dyson purchase as the previous two were totally inefficient with their lack of suction. Background I was interested to learn that when James Dyson introduced the bagless cleaner in 1983, no manufacturer was prepared to take on his design and consequently, he was left with no option than to launch his own business. No doubt the ... more

2 Stars Don't believe the hype! Review with images 03/08/2012
    User doesn't recommend the product

Advantages Advantages Picks up brilliantly when brand new, good accessible design

Disadvantages Disadvantages The suction isn't brilliant for long, completely not durable even with relatively light use, heavy

I've tried to love Dyson, I mean REALLY tried. Based on the hype surrounding these vacuums I thought I was being incredibly unfair hating ours as much as I do, everyone loves the brand and it would seem that no home is complete without a yellow or purple machine sitting in the utility room - we've had two in six years, with the latest going 'bang' (literally) last week. Never again. The Dyson DC04 is their 'basic' vacuum (although the price tag doesn't match this) and has 'Dual Cyclones' - whatever the heck they are! When brand new it sucked like a dream, ridding my carpets of dirt that I ... more

    Advantages Advantages Bagless, good cleaning

Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit noisy, NOT for hard floors

I'd always wondered what the fuss was about Dysons, what could be so wonderful about their “Dual Cyclone” technology that meant they were over a hundred pounds more expensive than a standard vacuum cleaner? Well when our last bagless vacuum cleaner bit the dust (so to speak), we decided to find out what all the fuss was about and began to search on-line for our very own Dyson. After searching on several sites and deciding whether we wanted a cylinder or upright cleaner we came to a decision and bought the DC04S/L, an upright cleaner which to be honest is the bottom of the range. ~~~Setting the ... more

Advantages Advantages Very powerful, Lifetime Filter, Flexible

Disadvantages Disadvantages Costly, You realise how dirty your home was !

I can't actually believe that there can be many households left in Britain that haven't already succumbed to the appeal of the Dyson machines, but to those few that haven't yet had 'The Dirty Dyson Experiment' (will come onto that later), this review is for you… Personally, I have never been able to get that excited about gadgets and gizmos, particularly those of the household variety. More often that not, you are let down and left bitterly disappointed when the claims prove far from the truth, not to mention being out of pocket. The Dyson DC04 is one of the few exceptions to that rule ... more

Advantages Advantages Good suction, useful extensions

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Fragile, expensive

When the family vaccuum packed up a couple of years ago, I generously stepped in to share opinion on which product we should buy as a replacement. Now, without being sexist ... this is why we have a Dyson. Dyson products seem to be inashamedly marketted at males. Let me take you on a whistle stop tour of my two years with this vaccuum cleaner and hopefully help you in your purchasing decision. THE PACKAGING The packaging of Dyson products is where you first notice the products are targetted at men. You see, there are tesosterone fuelled claims on the packaging and little diagrams that really ... more

Advantages Advantages Cleans deep into the carpet

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn`t clean right to the edge of the carpet

And why do I love him, I hear you ask. Well, this fantastic fellow knocked on my door 2 days ago, and handed me this great big parcel. Oooh! What was in the parcel, I hear you ask. Well, I won`t tease you any longer, inside the parcel was my lovely green and grey new Dyson. It`s always the same isn`t it? You get a new toy, and you`ve just got to play with it. And boy did I play with it. I hoovered the living room, kitchen, hallway, stairs, landing, bathroom, our bedroom, and the dangerous part, the kids bedroom. The reason hoovering the kids bedroom was dangerous, was because after 2 minutes ... more

Advantages Advantages Last's Forever Very easy to Replace Parts

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I first purchased my Dyson DC04 to replace my good old Henry hoover which finally gave up the ghost after 6 years of great service. I thought I would try out the hoover that I had heard so much about and my friends had been raving about. I toddled off down to my local Savacentre and paid £135 for my Dyson (you can now get this model for about £40 re conditioned). When I got home it was time first opinion's were that it look's great and the idea of a bagless hoover was brilliant so I turned it on and gave it a quick test run around the living room and with the amount of kid's I have it didn't ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent for allergy sufferers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Found it difficult to use on stairs

MR DYSON HAS SOME POWERFUL ENEMIES and these dustmites are no way pleased! After our Hoover vacuum packed up, we used our extended warranty to have it repaired. I must say I was very dissatisfied with the whole services from Hoover. Hubby and I decided to visit Alders of Croydon to buy another vacuum, even though we had two more years to run on it. It was our lucky break for at that time there was a promotion on Dyson vacuum models. We looked at the various models and asked questions and liked the DCO4i There were many reasons why we chosen that particular model, but because it was suitable ... more

Advantages Advantages Overall quality, Suction power, ease of use, company service standard, bagless, large model range.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Tools a bit fiddely, On the heavy side, unable to use on hard floors, price.

This vacuum cleaner has been marvellous and worth the high price tag. It is fun to use and you will be amazed by the stuff it picks up. The suction by this machine is incredible. I currently own the DC04 Absolute which was purchased around 8 months ago for £240.00. I have had no problems with it so far. Features on the Absolute include: > Lifetime Hepa filter > Extendable hose for stair cleaning > 3 tools / attachments > Side cleaning bristles > DC04 was the first vacuum to gain a seal of approval from the British Allergy Foundation A friend told me of this Dyson test which all new Dyson ... more
