Life After Big Brother

Advantages: Repeats
Disadvantages: Repeated repeats of repeats

...That’s the question. What does E4 have to offer the viewers to replace the 18 hour a day coverage of Big Brother? If you like dating shows, or feel you didn’t see enough of Davina McCall during BB, there’s Streetmate. Davina drags some poor person out and about trawling the streets, pubs, and shops, until they see someone they fancy (or someone Davina decides they might fancy). If that person agrees to it, they go on a date. Then, ...
...the few new shows that E4 is offering and I don’t know a lot about it. The concept is that several people are chained together and have to try to live, (as far as I understand it) a normal life like that, ie shopping, cooking, etc etc. Not sure on that one, time will tell. There’s also Shipwrecked, although it’s a repeat of the first series. A similar concept to Survivor, but without the million pound incentive to do it. Lot’s ...

EEEEEEEEE by 'eck, it's ruddy good!

Advantages: Good telly. Many American imports. First Look at shows before they get to Channel4
Disadvantages: Quite a lot of the same repeats

E4 was launched way back in 2001. It was one of the first of Channel4's sister channels to be found on satellite/cable as a subscription service. E stands for Entertainment and that is exactly what this channel claims to do, Entertain. In 2004, E4 joined the subscription service 'Top UP TV' and then a year later in 2005, it became free, joining 'Freeview'. It's full of American TV shows, mainly from US giants 'NBC' and 'ABC'. If you like 'FRIENDS', ...
...day of early Big Bro, E4 streamed live footage 24/7 of the house. Whatever time of day, you could sit down and see what was going on...or more to the point, what WASN'T going on, in the house...it's pretty dull. E4 features allowed you choose which camera angle you wanted to watch from too...wow weeee (I hope you 'heard' the sarcasm in my writing then). Another bonus for all E4 viewers, was that it became the home of 'First Look', whereby you could ...

More than just Big Brother...

Advantages: BB2, new series, repeats of old favourites
Disadvantages: too many repeats for some

...do it! E4 is a digital and digital satellite channel which is closely related to the more familiar Channel 4. The E in this case stands for entertainment, which is what E4 is all about – nothing really serious, hard-hitting or educational is to be found on here! Some people might describe it as Channel 4 without the boring bits. In this review, I’m not going to describe the actual programmes in detail to you – there are countless ...
...thing that many people associate E4 with at the moment is Big Brother II, which E4 is showing live, 18 hours a day. If you haven’t heard of the Big Brother phenomenon, then where have you been for the last few weeks?! When I say “live” however, this is not strictly correct. What we see when we switch on is NOT Big Brother as it happens, rather, there is a ten minute delay, as you can tell if you hear the housemates mention what ...

Just another case of being ripped off

Advantages: They show a lot of the best programmes
Disadvantages: Poor picture quality, just another case of being ripped-off

...4 and put on to E4 are the most popular shows, shows that people have been following for many a year like, Friends, Trigger Happy TV, ER, etc. So why was the channel launched, I ask? Well no doubt Channel 4 would tell us the reason is, “So they can show us a broader range of programmes”, which in itself would be fair enough, as there are one or two decent new shows, that where never shown on Channel 4, and it also gives us the chance ...
...is, the picture quality of E4 is very poor (whether this only applies to my area, I don't know) and most of the programmes are actually shown in wide-screen (which is very annoying, when you don’t own a wide-screen TV, like myself), I am also lead to believe that some people in certain parts of the land, don’t even get this channel on their Cable Packages, so they are losing out twice. I noticed when going to the E4 category listing, ...

We Just Cannot Take Any More

Advantages: The best of Channel 4 on one channel
Disadvantages: Too much Big Brother coverage, if you think that that is a bad thing

...Brother, then I'll look at E4 a bit more closely. The nation has gone Big Brother mad once again. Last time round we had the usual highlights show on Channel 4 every evening, and for those of us who could be bothered (which didn't include me), we could watch the antics of the housemates live on the web site. This year the producers have gone one better, by putting it live on E4 almost all day long. It's actually on E4 for around 18 hours a day so ...
...up. The coverage on E4 allows you to choose what you watch, one of four video feeds, two of which are live and the other two tape delayed. The first two feeds are from two different areas of the house, though if everyone goes into the lounge, the two feeds are from different cameras in the same area. Now and again the sound goes, though they say this is to make sure it is suitable for daytime viewing. From this I'm guessing that it's not quite live, ...

four-tified e number 4

Advantages: new shows before terrestrial tv
Disadvantages: frequent repeats, long ad breaks

...for your fix. E4 is still in it's infancy and is broadcast from 4pm to 4am everyday. The rest of it's programme contact is very mixed. Quite a lot of the stuff is repeats. Turn on most days and you're greeted with the lame Shipwrecked. In fact up until primetime the channel is packed with youth orientated programming that features dating shows and music shows. One good thing is that you can see the under-rated Party of Five which was never really ...
...this channel first. E4 can only get better and when it cuts down on the frequent repeats and increases it's broadcasting hours more people will tune in. The ad breaks are also a bit long but I suppose the moeny has to come from somwhere and with most US sitcom shows running 22 minutes it's expected. At the moment it provides a good showcase for all the best entertainment Channel 4 has to offer. Throw in a few films some weekday nights and it's going ...

E4 - Great Entertainment

Advantages: Great programs shown before Channel 4, New talent highlighted
Disadvantages: Only on-air for approximately 7 hours a day

...the unique selling point of E4 was that it offers entertainment programs before they are shown on channel 4. These include, among many others Popworld (a pop music magazine), Banzai (a spoof Japanese betting program), Friends (very successful American sitcom), Trigger Happy TV (hilarious comedy sketch show), and even Big Brother's Little Brother (an extension to Big Brother). E4 currently broadcasts around 7 hours a day, broadcasting as mentioned ...
...well as broadcasting independent programs, E4 also broadcasts programs to complement Channel 4, such as The Priory Clinic, Hollyoaks, and Big Brother's Little Brother, which provide a great addition to Channel 4's current range of programming. Also, E4 is developing further programming to run alongside their interactive website, such as Banzai and Show Me The Funny, meaning this is truly an interactive station for you. However, as well as broadcasting ...

Shouldnt they just call this channel Big Brother

Advantages: Some good shows
Disadvantages: Too much Big Brother, not enough of the promised quality tv

E4 is the relatively new digital channel brought to our screens by these nice people at Channel 4. Channel 4 has of late established itself as one of the major channels, with numerous popular series including “Friends”, “South Park”, “Frasier”, “Trigger Happy TV”, the widely acclaimed “Big Brother” (love it or hate it, there’s no in-between!), and many other programmes. E4 was billed ...
...favourites, really I wouldn’t describe E4 as being anything particularly special. Fair enough, it does still beat BBC 2 (and some would argue BBC 1!) in terms of appealing shows, but they are more inclined to show a one-off special edition of a particular programme, rather than constantly have on all the shows they talked about so enthusiastically in the buildup to the launch. Possibly I am just being cynical because I don’t watch all ...

Advantages: great shows, lots of first-shows
Disadvantages: some of the entertainment progs are a bit dodgy

...with new series shown on E4 before any other station, and some months in advance of their airing on Channel 4. ‘Friends’, ‘ER’ and ‘Dawson’s Creek’ also bulk up the station’s output, even if the latter is, in my humble opinion, akin to having teeth pulled out with its tiring teenage philosophising. As far as British progs go, my favourite is Banzai, the truly unique game-show which apes the insanity ...
...One brave move by E4 was the introduction of 24-hour Interactive ‘Big Brother’, which allowed BB addicts to sit on the sofa and, er, watch people sitting on sofas. Whilst this may appear to the sane as exciting as observing Dulux solidify, it proved to be such a ratings smash that the current daytime schedules are filled with another reality TV show, ‘The Salon’. Whilst the target audience for the station is quite narrow, ...

21.7 UPDATE- Big Brother, The Jewel In E4's Crown

Advantages: excellent programme, 18 hours a day live coverage on E4
Disadvantages: no sleep!!

E4 is a relatively new channel available for digital subscribers. I first noticed it when they showed Eminem's concert. They also show a lot of programmes I don't care much for, such as Trigger Happy TV, Ally McBeal and Sex In The City, but what I want to concentrate on in this opinion is Big Brother. I have asked Ciao to put Big Brother in the E4 category, but so far, no luck. Anyway, as 18 hours a day are currently being devoted to coverage of ...
...fair to say that E4 IS Big Brother for the next couple of months! So here's my opinion on the second series of BIG BROTHER... Once again, my life has changed. Instead of behaving like a fairly normal woman, going to sleep around 11pm and waking up at 7am, I have began to compete. How late at night can I stay up? How early can I get up in the morning? It’s really quite scary at times, especially as I am the sort of person who needs a regular ...

E is 4 Entertainment

Advantages: Exclusive shows to the channel like ER and Friends
Disadvantages: Lot of re-runs

...hearing many people complaining about E4 I thought that I would write about my personal experience with the channel. After the large advertising campaign, stating that it was free to those with digital packages, I was very looking forward to the channel being launched. Even though it had ruined one of my favorite shows ER, as one of the cliffhangers of the last series was the fate of John Carter who could be seen in the adverts as perfectly well. ...
...after ordering it I had E4 and I havent regretted it. I know that the main complaint people have with the channel is that it shows 'Friends' and 'ER' before terrestrial television. I can understand that this can be annoying but this has always been the way. Before E4 shows like 'Friends' and 'ER' were shown on Sky One before they hit terrestrial television and if you are paying for better television then thats exactly what you should get. Its not ...

Have You Missed It.........

Advantages: are slowly dying
Disadvantages: are becoming more obvious

...criticised before! I got E4 about four months ago, pretty soon after it came out and I thought it was great. It runs from 4pm to 4am (but nowadays there is Big Brother (yawn) on pretty much all day and night too). Before BB, they ran this advertising thing that told you all that is on E4 - or will be soon. New Friends, new ER, new Ally McBeal, plus loads of new programmes like Banzai and Los Dos Bros were promised to be coming soon, and they did, ...

E4 is 4 me

Advantages: Newest series of your favourite shows
Disadvantages: Schedule rather limited at the moment

E4 is a new tv channel that it shown on Sky Digital, Satellite and Cable and produced in association with Channel 4. It is completely subscription free and broadcasts between 4pm and 4am seven nights a week and in my opinion, is one of most promising new channels launched on our TVs in a long time. E4 concentrates mainly on providing top quality comedy and entertainment programming including the newest series of your favourite dramas; shows like ...

You won't see too many films on here due mainly, I suspect, to Channel 4 having their own subscription film channel, but expect to see a fresh line-up of top comedies and dramas pretty much leading on from where Channel 4's popular late night viewing programming began. The channel started broadcasting in January (presented by Ali G, you either love him or loathe him!) and kicked off by showing a double ...

So many good shows!

Advantages: Most of the other good shows.
Disadvantages: Big Brother

E4 is a channel that shows on digital and free view television. It is for the young adult age group, from about 14 to 28. It is available in the UK and Northern Ireland, as it shows programmes in English but you can also watch it online using 4OD to catch up with your favourite programmes or you can use one of the programmes available to watch TV on your computer or laptop. It is channel 136 on sky, and then its 137 for e4 plus one. On freeview, ...

It mainly shows repeats, but does have the premieres of some of new, very popular shows before you can see it on channel 4, and then they will be repeated later on during the week when they have been shown on channel 4. Examples of these shows are Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty when they ...

Disadvantages: 'those quirky Japanese'theme is a bit strained.

...particular that stands out on E4 and that is Banzai! The premise is simple, a show with those inscrutable Japanese presenting. Of course it is a very knowing, post-ironic take on those Japanese death or glory gameshows that were always shown on Tarrant on TV. Instead of forcing an intrepid contestant to hang upside down for as long he can endure, you can win money on a variety of bewildering bets. For example, you can bet on whether an old lady ...

Whoever wins, there will be a replay to show the moment of death with side-splitting commentary from the commentators. For example, in a contest between two hose-wielding fireman to see who could ...
