Advantages: cheap, very easy to use, good tuner Disadvantages: very slow, ugly user interface, picture blacks out occasionally
...user experience then..
The Echostar began with its automatic setup screen on first use, which tells you to ensure the aerial is plugged in and to press "ok" (I'm just using an indoor aerial). Scanning takes several minutes and feels somewhat slower than other boxes I've used. You might think that's not really a problem as it's not something one does often but in the last month new channels and radio stations have been added to freeview (and more ... ...and for whatever reason the Echostar appeared to stop responding to input from the remote control a little way into the game. This was a little frustrating as the only way to get it working again was to exit and restart (which was annoying and pointless since you lost your score so far). That was irritating but most other services, teletext and bbc text, work just fine, albeit slowly.
In conclusion then..
It works reasonably well, but the slowness ...

Advantages: Basic and cheap Disadvantages: Not very powerful, lack of support, sluggish
The Echostar T101 FTA is amongst the many digital freeview boxes available in the UK, aiming to provide the most basic freeview features at a very low price.
The device itself is silver and rather small and can fit comfortably onto your hand, or more likely, the TV. It has 5 connectors on the back - power, RF in, RF out, and 2 SCART sockets for the TV and VCR. The front of the device includes a simple black display with a single, solitary LED that ... ...standby or operating.
In the package comes a remote control (with batteries), and is about as simple as a digital box needs.
Set up is quick and painless - it includes a SCART cable and an RF lead so you can add it to your existing setup. Once connected and operating, it automatically prompts to do a scan to find all available channels, both TV and radio. In our case, it found a number of BBC Radio and TV channels, but not the 30 typically broadcast ...

Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: Maybe a bit too easy to use
...years, but only had my Echostar for about a year.
Everything you need is included in the box, except for a scart lead. The salesman tried to sell a £15 scart lead to me, but I bought one for 99p elsewhere.
The setup is all automatic, this is nice - until there are new channels. The auto tuning is slow. Other freeview boxes use a system where you can manually tune new channels.
The menus are very simple - nothing too complicated. There are a few ... ...software downloads, manual setup and converting 4:3 to 16:9 signals.
The batteries in the remote control last for a long time - mine have been in there for over 9 months now. The remote control is conviniently shaped.
I purchased mine from Argos for just under £50 and it has been well worth it!
I think this product is only good if you want something that is simple, easy to use and small. ...

Advantages: It is good value for your money Disadvantages: It some times cuts out and the channels are messed up
I bought this Echostar box about 3 months ago, It looked like a decent freeview box, The box is grey with a black front display, and is about 30cm in width. But what the hell they all do the same thing! It comes complete with the freeviewbox, Scart lead, figure of 8 lead(power lead) and your remote control and manual to get you started. First off I skimmed throught the manual as it was very understanding and looked simple enough. I plugged in the ... ...my scart lead and aerial to the back of it, this is simple as it has little diagrams to show you where to plug everything into (and tells you in manual). I got the startup screen for the product, Then it will start to automatically scan for channels in your area. Scanning will take approx 5 minutes depending on your aerial and where it is positioned. After it has scanned it will add them to the box. The navigation system is very easy to use, I had ...

Advantages: easy set up, upgradable firmware, ease of use Disadvantages: ugly, not top up tv compatable, did i say ugly
This was a christmas present From my girlfriend mainly i think because she wanted more tv channels in the house and couldn't justify buying one for herself but anyway. It took all of around 5 mins from box to on top the box very easily set up. And comes with a scart lead unlike some cheap ass boxes that expect you to buy there expensive boxes and then buy a scart cable from them as well. The unit picks up all free to air channels and has increased ... ...digital radio stations it picks up and interactive services the box costs from as little as £35 to around £45
The main selling point is probably the price a nice cheap box that does most of the things more expensive bosxes do. The unit is upgradable through firmware and if u dont mind its uglyness will work well unlike some my friends have nought and had to return it wont let you down. ...
