Advantages Advantages Grit and a real character that F1 Craves

Disadvantages Disadvantages Maybe not always as 100% committed as he could be

Eddie, Born in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, has been a character in the racing world since he first raced in Irish Formula Ford 1600 in 1983. Northern Ireland racer Eddie then graduated 2 years later to teh British Championship in that class. A further two years saw him win the Formula Ford festival at Brands Hatch on the way to taking the title in that season of 1987. 1988 saw another leap, this time to British Formula 3, He finished in 5th here and took a international victory when he won heat one of the famous Macau F3 GP. 1990 saw him graduate to international F3000 with Eddie Jordan in ... more

Advantages Advantages Long time in f1

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not very good in qualifying

Eddie Irvine has been driving in formula 1 since 1993, he has been driving longer than almost any other driver currently in f1. At 36 years of age he is one of the oldest too. The highlight of his career was when he drove for Ferrari in 1998 and 1999 with Micheal Schumacher as his team mate. He has had 4 wins in his career, all in 1999. These days his results are more mediocre. He hasn't managed to finish very many races this season. When he has finished he has positioned between 7th and 11th apart from at Monaco when he finished 3rd. Monaco seems to be his best circuit. In the three years ... more

Advantages Advantages Britsh (well sort of) Personality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ego larger than skill

In a sport where personalities are few and far between, Jaguar has two drivers who do not fit the standard mold. Eddie Irvine is more like an old fashioned driver, one who races for the enjoyment of the sport, rather than the money. He knows how to enjoy himself, but can still drive well. He has a big mouth and has made himself some enemies, but at least he says what he thinks, you can respect that in a driver. I don't think he will ever be world champion, but he should consistently make the middle of the field if he can get a good enough car. ... more

Advantages Advantages His outspoken, live fast die young attitude

Disadvantages Disadvantages Playboy lifestyle leads to conflict with his team

Eddie has been a favourite of mine ever since I saw him cause a 3 car pile up not long into his formula one career. Unlike most of the corporate clowns in formula one Eddie Irvine is one of lifes true characters. Ok, so he might be a true international playboy who changes his supermodel girlfriends as often as his clothes but he never hides the fact. Eddie enjoys the trappings that his status brings and isn't afraid to enjoy them. Unfortunatley all these outside distractions do mean that Eddie will never fulfill his potential but at least the remainder of his career will be an interesting one ... more

    Advantages Advantages A great man

    Disadvantages Disadvantages A bad car

Eddie Irvine is one of the good guys, one of the few Formula One drivers to have a genuine personality and an ability to drive to a very high standard. The man who was cruely looked down upon by Ferrari for commiting the sin of almost winning the Championship instead of golden boy Michael Schumacher, well if Schumacher was such an excellent driver he would never have had the crash that broke his leg would he ? Things have not been going well for Jaguar/Irvine this season. When the car is sorted out then we should see Eddie Irvine and Jaguar achieve some of the success they so richly deserve. ... more

    Advantages Advantages Top bloke

Disadvantages Disadvantages Stuck with slow pants herbert.

Edd is my modern day hero. He is exactly what I was like about 5 years ago but without the arrogance!!! Woman here, Woman there!!! Woman Everywhere!!! We all like that. Get it while you can. He is a superb racing driver in a team that has a good driver to develop the car for him like Schumacher. Unfortunately he is lumbered partnering Johnny " slow pants" Herbert for this season and the Jaguar has been unreliable and off the pace. His usual brash exterior makes many people dislike him but it is this exact reason that I think he is top boy. He does not give a monkeys what people think of him. ... more

    Advantages Advantages Ocasionally good form.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Inconsistent, not particularly quick, threw away easy championship opportunity.

Has Eddie Irvine ever driven a race that can be described as impressive? For someone so openly critical and often antagonistic out of the cockpit, Irvine?s performances on the track are consistently unremarkable. Having considered the above remarks for some time, I can think of only two exceptions. He debut race for Jordan at Suzuka in 1993 brought him considerable attention within the F1 world: he was lapped by Ayrton Senna who was subsequently held up, so Irvine cheekily unlapped himself, earning a hefty punch from the Brazilian after the race. Irvine took the last point available ? for ... more

Advantages Advantages Knows how to have a good time

Disadvantages Disadvantages might be past it????

I am a huge admirer of Eddie Irvine because he is seemingly one of the only drivers out there who knows how to enjoy himself and also manages to get on with the job. Ok, so his results at Jaguar haven't been anything to write home about so far - but we all know that aint down to Eddie himself, - the car just isn't up to the job yet. I do worry about Eddie though - I would have loved to see him continue in the Ferrari with the freedom to race againt Mr Schu. I sometimes wonder if Eddie has reached his pinnacle already and we will see him struggle in a Jaguar for a couple of years before he ... more

Irvine’s best season by far as he came agonisingly close to winning his first drivers’ title trailing Mika Hakkinen by just two points. The Irishman signalled his championship ambitions when he surprisingly took the opening race of the year, the Australian Grand Prix. It was the British GP at Silverstone which really began the rollercoaster. His Ferrari team-mate Michael Schumacher was six points ahead of Irvine going into the race but then fate played a part as the mighty German careered off the track and broke his leg. From that moment Ferrari threw all their power behind Irvine and how well ... more

    Advantages Advantages Quick,talented,experienced

Disadvantages Disadvantages Current team needs more reliability.

Genial, outgoing, Ulsterman,Eddie Irvine, currently with the Jaguar Formula I team, has also driven for Jordan and Ferrari.Last year he finished second in the driver's championship being pipped for the title in the very last race in Japan by the cool Finn,Mika Hakinen. Eddie amassed 74 championship points in his last season with the legendary Ferrari team and during his time with the Italian team, showed that he is one of the quickest drivers around. His easy going,fun-loving,personalityhas led some to conclude that he is not as well focussed as some other drivers. However, his outstanding ... more
