So in conclusion, I think the only thing that can be said about Edinburgh is that its a fantastic city, a great university, I've adored my time here and I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE!!! ...

Edinburgh University is currently ranked top in Scotland league tables, with over 20,000 students this is no easy task. The university is not only appealing on its diverse range of subject options open to student, but the location is arguably one of the best in the UK.
A typical year in Edinburgh will see the world famous Fringe festival, the world famous Hogmanay, a diverse range of bands playing in both small and large venues such as the corn ... ...rarity in Scotland. If Edinburgh doesn’t hold all the live music necessary then a quick train journey down to Glasgow will easily satisfy that need for live music – recently staring there were Muse, supported by Elbow, also Counting Crows and many more.
If music isn’t your thing then how about a bit of dancy-dancy. Many nightclubs are situated in Edinburgh, City nightclub, where the MTV after party was held – including guests such as Justin Timberlake. ...

Advantages: Great place to live, good unions Disadvantages: Expensive
Edinburgh is a fantastic place to live, in fact as an American tourist said to me the other day 'what a great little town'. Well yes, i can see where he's coming from because Edinburgh doesn't FEEL like a city at all. Particularly if you live in Pollock Halls you have the countryside (Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags) on your doorstep and there is always the Meadows by George Square campus and (studentville) Marchmont.
Edinburgh has lots to do ... ...three weeks a year) Edinburgh isn't great for gigs but its easy enough to get to Glasgow and back. And of course Edinburgh has lots of history! Its aesthetically pleasing in itself with the tenement buildings and the castle but of course there are lots of tourist attractions to get your parents to take you to too. Holyrood Palace, Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh Dungeons and the Zoo are recommended, as are the ghost tours and bus tours. And don't forget ...

Advantages: great city Disadvantages: a little pricey
As with all universities, Edinburgh has strengths and weaknesses, the city is great, with Arthurs seat and the meadows it has lots of park space. The shops are good, although Princes St is usually overrun with tourists, christmas shoppers and well everyone. The unis is rated highly in a huge variety of subjects, and most people will get a lot out of it as long as they want to put something in. There are good opportunities to get involved with societies, ...

Advantages: Freedom, time Disadvantages: faceless, unchallenging
Edinburgh is a dynamic and exciting city. You will not find a better town in which to spend four years, it has the largest student population in the UK, good and cheap venues, architecural and cultural wealth and opportunity to freely develop without any hinderance.
However it is not the place to go if you want do an Arts or Social Sciences course out of genuine interest or ambition. It will be crushed. If you have already enrolled beg to skip to ... ...girl who got 5 A's at a-level doing the September sitting, by the end of this year she couldn't even do most of her exams. Why? Becuase there is no work. It is unbearably boring and there is absolutely no feeling of academia, work, achievement or purpose. Lectures are not compulsory; this isn't like the Cambridge review - that's bollocks. They don't HAVE to go to lectures because they NEED to go to stop falling behind, they go and see their personal ...

Advantages: Excellent Academic reputation in a wonderful city Disadvantages: Expensive standard of living
...opinion. The University of Edinburgh is highly regarded for both teaching and research - it was rated as the 5th best university in the UK (The Times Academic League Table 2000). For this reason, there are many non-scots who apply and are accepted as students of the university. As a recent graduate (after 5 years of work)I feel that the previous opinion was not really valid in terms of what I have experienced. There are indeed those who are known ... ...are.
The standards at Edinburgh ARE high, and surely that is a good thing. I would reccomend wholeheartedly anyone coming to edinburgh to study, scottish or otherwise - just go to one of the university open days and you will get a good feel for it.

Advantages: sporting facilities, social life, friendly Disadvantages: distance
...up hope when I discovered Edinburgh University. The university is internationally known for its academic achievements and at the same time has a reputation for being friendly. The university is spread out over a lot of ground and to appears to be quite large and daunting. However, the transport around the town to the various buildings and accomodation sites is excellent and cheap. The university is respected throughout the world for its courses in ... ...Scotland and the entire country.
Edinburgh has fantastic accomodation, even the self-catering accomodation, which is usually pretty bad in universities, is actually really good. The buildings are spread out throughout the city and are all within a 15 minute walk from the main university buildings.
There are many clubs and societies that cover a wide range of interests and which all, amazingly, manage to indulge their members in heavy bouts of drnking ...

Advantages: Everything - but most of all the atmosphere Disadvantages: Nothing really, except that there isn't much flat ground
I have to recommend Edinburgh. The city is unique in its atmosphere - more like a small town than a city - but it still has everything you want. Lots of pubs, long opening hours, student discounts everywhere...
The whole place is really friendly. Rent is reasonable, and the university has plenty of student accommodation.
I was a Social Scientist, based in George Square. The support services are good, the lectures are well-planned and interesting, ... ...books in the library) I can't think of anything wrong.
There are loads of places to go, things to see, and places that are free/cheap. It also has Dynamic Earth - Scotland's successful answer to the Dome - which is definitely worth visiting.
GO THERE! You won't regret it.
Just one word of advice - Scottish winters are *cold*. So bring a nice warm coat, woolly hat and scarf, and don't be afraid to wear them. Everyone does. ...

...is wonderful. However I found Edinburgh University in stark contrast to this gorgeous city.
While the fact that very few local people attend makes for a somewhat cosmopolitan atmosphere, it can also make for a very alienating on for Scots. I found that my course ( French) was designed largely for the A-level syllabus. Which would be all fine and dandy if not for the fact that this was a Scottish University and that Scotland has an entirely differnet ...

...12 and looking at Universities. Edinburgh is one that has caught my eye. I'm attracted by its flexibility (3 courses per year?), 4 year courses, ski slope (;) potentially good social life, distance from home, friends that also want to go there, and quality of teaching.
