Advantages: Playability, Tone Disadvantages: Weight
...is about average for an Epiphone Les Paul.
I love the appearance of the Les Paul series – the shape to me screams classic rock and the finishes available are some of the best in my opinion. Mine is in Flame Burst which is slightly different to most of the standard models and has to be my favorite finish for any guitar.
I have always loved the way my guitar has played. I prefer the Les Paul series to the SG series in particular the uncovered pickups ... ...the SGs and give a more metal feel. The Les Paul has twin humbuckers which is great for all those classic crunchy metal and rock songs. I have only gigged my guitar once but I would not be worried about it holding up during a performance. The parts may not be as high quality in general than a real Gibson but they are still better quality than a lot of the guitars on the market at similar prices. One point to look out for is the pickup selector switch, ...

Originally purchased one of these in spangly purple finish about 2 years ago.
It positively leapt out of the guitar stand alongside everything else ,even with a broken pickup selector (which i negoiated a discount for ;) ). When you look at the price of this range of guitars you have to wonder how they produce 'em for the money....easy....
The Hardware is at best ,average. The pickup selector was broken off (probably from some kid trying to steal ... ...cut out between pickup choices. hmmmmm, a new switch would do it...what the hell..
The pickups are nothing to write home about. Dual humbuckers and reasonable sound considering that you aint gonna get seymour duncans on an instrument of this price! The volume and tones pots are all kinda smooth and even which is a bonus , as even some more expensive guitars have the most atrocious volume controls ever.
The Neck is obviously not a strat-style profile, ...

Advantages: Excellent price & playability. Disadvantages: Very temperamental & somewhat short lived.
The first and most important thing to consider about this guitar is the price. I am have seen them on sale with price tags of 475 pounds upwards. This is an insane price to pay for what is essentially a basic guitar. Have a look online, or in the back of guitar magazines and you will soon learn the going rate is more like 250 pounds, assuming you don't mind having the basic "sunburst" (red + gold transparent) finish. Once you have an advertisment ... ...is a simple step to getting your local guitar shop to slash the price in half and you have saved yourself a big heap of money.
I bought mine for 250 pounds and owned it for 2 years. During that time I came to love it's great, solid playability and was impressed with the range of sounds it could make and its versatility - the sound quality was good considering the price. The two humbuckers give a reasonable distortion and can do a good overdrive ...

Advantages: reasonably priced, easy to play, great sound Disadvantages: not quite a gibson
...thing for a lot cheaper.
Epiphone guitars are a branch of the Gibson brand, and so are manufactured for sound and quality, but dont have quite the same 'ingredients'. The Epiphone Les Paul comes in a number of different styles including the standard. This has all the main features of the equivalent Gibson model, but is made on a slightly cheaper scale.
The pick-ups are probably the main difference, this guitar will use Epiphone stock pick-ups, ... ...or the other.
The Epiphone Les Paul can have a difference in the width of the neck, a 50's neck is slightly thicker than that of a 60's neck but this would be insignificant to a beginner. If you're an experienced guitarist, then you'll have your own preferences and know what style of neck you would prefer to play with.
This guitar can also come in a variety of finishes, to name a few: heritage cherry sunburst (red faded to yellow), Gold top, Faded ...

Advantages: much cheaper than its gibson counterpart Disadvantages: not quite the same as the gibson; cheap materials and build
Epiphone are an arm of Gibson, the world famous guitar making company, reknowned for its quality and string of players who play their guitars, such as slash. epiphone guitars are made to look like their gibson counterparts, but are made with cheaper quality wood and materials, and in cheaper labour areas such as taiwan. despite this initial drawback to the epiphones, these are made cheaply in order to be sold cheaply and compete against brands such ... ...version, apart from it having epiphone written on the headstock. the way the epiphone sounds to me is highly satisfactory for its price tag. when plugged into the right amp with the right effects the tone achieved at times can mirror that of the gibson models. gibson are reknowned for their hard rock/metal sounds with their rich humbucker pickups and this is no different. those wanting a big sound can expect it with this guitar. i play now in a range ...

Advantages: Good value for money, great to play, high quality Disadvantages: Can't think of any apart from it gets a little heavy on the shoulders after a bit.
...much on a guitar. The Epiphone range is the answer to these problems and you can get the most popular Gibson's in the Epiphone range such as the Les Paul and SG models. £400 is more than you would pay for a budget range Fender Stratocaster (One of the main guitar manufacturers alongside Gibson) such as a squire. This is down to the quality. From my experience I have found that other cheap guitar will use ply wood for the body and other low quality ... ...The main difference between an Epiphone and a Gibson is mainly the quality of components. Don't get me wrong, the components on the Epiphone are of great quality but when you spend £1600 you get better parts.
The bridge (part where the strings attach at the bottom of the guitar) of the Les Paul is fixed. In my opinion this is much better for the strings as there is less force applied to them and so they stay in tune longer and don't break so often. ...

I Brought my Ep les Paul as i think they are the greatest guitar out and all the good player play them (James Dean Bradfield!!!! :-) ) they and i could not afford a real gibson !!.
The guitar does look very nice. I have a red glittery guitar limited edition one with a bigsby tremolo arm on it. The guitar is well put together seeing as it is built in Korea where most cheaper guitars are built. The guitar has two hum buckers which aren’t the ... ...single coil pickups. The sound is not that bad on either of the pickups but not brilliant. The neck is quite thick which makes it easy to play compared to a strat neck. Advantages: Sounds great, looks great, Makes you feel like a rock god(maybe) Disadvantages: Very heavy, thich neck
When i first bought this guitar i expected nothing short of Slash, Clapton, Perry and Bolan. I was not dissapointed.
The tone just blew me away especially the neck pickup when played through a Marshall stack, it literally played the intro to Sweet child on its own and sounded just like the record.
Playability is O.K but the neck is thick so forget shredding like Kerry King, its just not gonna happen. This guitar is made purely for classic rock. ... ...The build quality is first class, but what else would you expect from Epiphone, they may not use the word Gibson but take it from me quality and value for money is top of their list.
Its pretty easy to set up too, intonation is easy to adjust and for anyting else just pay your local luthier because its well worth it.
You can pick them up for aroun £300 if you really look around and there are plenty of models to choose from, the Slash model sounds ...

Advantages: Nice mellow, deep blues/rock sound (Gary Moore, Jimmy Page) Disadvantages: Won't get that Hendrix sound
Epiphone are the same company as Gibson apart from the fact that Gibson guitars are made with the highest quality wood and components, and instead of being made in the USA they're made in poorer countries like Taiwan or Korea therefore being cheaper. The quality of Epiphone guitars, in the last few years, has increased. The Epiphone Les Paul Standard comes with either a '50's Rounded or '60's slim taper neck profile where as Classic is only '60's slim. The difference between the '50's and the '60's neck is that the '50's neck is generally a rounder and chunkier neck than the '60's. The '60's neck can also be found on the SG Std. however if you are looking for a more phat/bluesy sound I would recommend the Les Paul Std. because of the thicker ...

I spent months deciding which guitar i sould buy next because i wanted an electric (i had an acoustic). I then decided between this one or an mexican fender strat (not squire). I then chose this one for the siple reason that it is one heck of a lot better, i mean A LOT BETTER! My experience:
Ive had my Epiphone Les Paul for 10 years or so now, and ive been playing for 13 years. I play lots of different styles, from..
Clapton, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, System of a Down, Placebo,
even some Destinys child and a bit of old country classics...
I use a Zoom Player 3000 straight into my p.c for all my recording (although im gonna get a decent amp and mic the thing, and a different guitar too).I dont play in a band, i work ... ...this day. I guess being epiphone not Gibson: its not gonna have quite the same finish, but when i give her a good buffing, she still turnes heads at the bar....
Some of the hardware is a bit weak though, the jack plug socket has been tempramental over the years (constant tightening + the solder came loose a few times on the same plug). Tuners could be a bit more smooth and solid, but are by no means bad.
Sound:
I know what a Les Paul sounds like!! ...

Advantages: Great Les Paul sound for players on a budget Disadvantages: Not as tonally-flexible as a Strat or Strat clone; the neck could have been sturdier
This here is cosmetically identical to a Gibson Les Paul Standard, except for the headstock. Bought one for RM2 100 from Woh Fatt in Kuala Lumpur way back in 1990. It came with a sunburst finish, hard case, the usual twin humbuckers, toggle switch, 2 volume and 2 tone controls. Sound-wise; very much a Les Paul. However, in terms of clarity; nowhere near the clear, bell-like tones you get on a Strat or Strat clone. Good for thick distorted solos and ... ...too flexible for my tastes, but it gets the job done. Holds up well even with heavier strings such as Ernie Ball Power Slinkys (.011 - .049). All said and done, you might be better off getting a Strat clone that has humbuckers plus single coil(s); if a wider variety of tones is what you need. ...
