Advantages: Fast, Compact, Excellent Quality scans, Scans Negs and Slides Disadvantages: Control Interface, Looks like it should, but does not make toasted sandwiches
...more instinctive. I hope that Epson have improved this on later models.
Apart from getting used to the control interface, the scanner is a nicely built and specified unit and despite it's being superceded is still a very good unit. From personal experience, i find that shrpness of focus is everything on a scanner, without that all of the dpi in the world won't make it better. My late and lamented HP6200C was 300dpi and was outstanding. More dpi ...

Advantages: Crisp, clear, high resolution - what more do you need? Disadvantages: Colour balance slightly off
After setting up, which is a simple affair, this scanner presents a simple interface that belies great power. With one press of a button, the scanner brings up its software onscreen, allowing you to choose from a number of simple options, from scanning and saving images to the (occasionally useful and very powerful) Optical Character Recognition package. It will even identify the type of document in the flatbed and adjust its resolution etc. accordingly. ... ...over what the scanner does.
However, coupling this scanner with, say, Adobe Photoshop unleashes its true power. It fits nicely into the package - using a standard WIA interface - and here, the sheer resolution available amazes. Although I have crashed my computer a few times trying to scan in larger pictures than it could cope with (the resolution goes up to a tempting 3200 DPI), the whole process is very smooth, and leaves impressive detail marred ...
