Software / system requirements

Advantages: Good quality scans, easy to connect, works with Vista (only V32 tested) Disadvantages: Slow in use, 30 sec warmup before each scan; software setting tedious
...Cheap easy to fit and works with Vista too. Quality of image produced is very good. This scanner though is let down by its software. Yes, you can do almost anything you want but the software is oriented around single jobs. If you have an application where you might want each time to scan first a photo and then a form then it's very tedious setting everything up each time. Not only that but if you want to use it for archiving documents it needs half a minute warm up bvetweeneach and every scan. Even if you scan multiple sheets using Acrobat as the controlling software, if you haven't turned the page and clicked on next scan within ten seconds then you have a 30 second wait. As if all that isn't enough the flat bed cover doesn't press out any folds in a letter so dark patches can require duplicate scans....

Advantages: Excellent Scan Quality, Rapid Results. Disadvantages: Very Poor Reference Guide, Noisy, No Power Switch, edges of Scan Bed Missed From Scan
...not be the case but how am I to know? It still leaves me with a feeling of unease.
After all this it could be assumed that I'm not impressed with the Perfection 2580 Photo. Odd to say this is not the case.
The reason for this is that the quality of the scans is very, very good and they are produced very rapidly. The pictures are crisp and clear and the colours very acceptable. A 7X4 inch print for example scans at 300 dpi in 8 seconds, 13 seconds at 400dpi and 65 seconds at 800 dpi.
Resolution goes all the way up to 12,800 dpi. A full size 6 X 4 would take some time at this sort of figure but I can't imagine any circumstance where you'd want to do this. A tiny 10mm square surviving scrap of an 80 year old picture scanned at this resolution in 30 seconds and filled a 19 inch screen at only 17% of its full size. A scanned 35mm negative...

Advantages: good quality scanning, easy to use and cheap to buy Disadvantages: heavy and takes up a lot of space
...I would first like to start by giving clarification on the functions of this item. It is not a printer, as said by Ciao, it is in fact a scanner that is hooked up to a computer with the necessary photoshop software to enable editting of home photo's and professional shots.
Unlike professional photo scanners, the V100 is very cheap. I paid only 110 Euros (about £65) for mine as I like to play with my photo's, changing backgrounds, removing red eyes from people and generally cleaning up shots to make them suitable for hanging or presentation.
Attaching the scanner is easy, but you will need to clear a side very close to your PC. A cable slots straight into the PC USB port and the drivers are loaded onto direct from a CD, but the cable is not very long. Once this is done everything is ready to go. Although a scanner designed...

I purchased this scanner for two purposes: the bulk scanning of my father's considerable collection of 35mm slides and for my own use scanning documents, 35mm and Medium Format slides and negatives.
