I had an Epson perfection 1650 and it was long over due for a replacement upgrade. As I never had any real problems with my previous Epson I decided I would stick with the same brand an go for the Perfection V700 - a scanner designed specifically for photo scanning but that also acts as an all-purpose scanner. It incorporates Twain and WIA drivers that let you scan from most compatible programs. There also an optical character recognition (OCR) program ... ...downside is the tendency for Epson to produce rather bulky ugly looking scanners and the V700 certainly follows in this tradition. ==Setting up==To use the scanner you first of all have to unlock it. At the back of the unit you will find a transportation lock that you have to slide towards the left to unlock. After using this product for a few months I have not so far come up against any reliability issues but only time will tell. I therefore would recommend the product. However, always think carefully as to whether you actually really need something before you buy it. We buy so many things nowadays that we don't really need.
