Sadly Has Had Its Day
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
ceminem
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Slow, Outdated
My trustworthy Epson 440 inkjet printer has always served me well, however now that even the newest printers of superior quality from Epson are under £100 I will soon sucomb to them and say goodbye to my loyal friend. Oh you try so hard to impress me but sorry your top dots per inch of 770 just doesn't cut it anymore, I need a printer with 2880 dots per inch to really show the flashiness of my graphics and documents.
Epson have always produced ...

Good value budget printer, but a bit slow
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
davidbuttery
Advantages: Cheap, good colour printing, easy to buy carts
Disadvantages: Takes ages to start up, poor DOS support
...The major attraction was the Epson name, with which you can be pretty sure you're not buying junk.
For such a cheap printer, colour printing is surprisingly good, even on fairly cheap paper. Mind you, I'm comparing it to my awful old Olivetti, which didn't have a separate black ink nozzle, and just mixed up the other three colours...
By far the most annoying feature of the 440 is the interminable wait for it to start up. It makes all the usual ...

Epson 440 A User Guide Bargain Update
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
steverob
Advantages: vfm
Disadvantages: few
...Conclusion
Themain reason I purchased in Epson was for its low running costs, up to 70 percent cheaper per page cost of the printers. I use compatible cartridges from a reliable source they save is even more money and output does not suffer. To replace both the colour and black cartridges cost less than £15. This is a cracking little printer that will produce excellent letters reports greeting cards and passable photos.
Top Tip
Use a decent paper, ...

Beware of cheap immitation cartridges
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
gavcruise
Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: Immitation cartridges may harm your computer.
The Epson stylus color 440 came with my PC when I bought it. The Stylus 440 is a good quality, value for money printer, for the home user. The printer was bundled with 2 pieces of very useful software. Corel Print House:
With this you can make very professional looking greeting cards, banners, flyers and business cards, and it is all very easy to do. Included in this piece of software is a photo editor to change the appearance of nearly any type ...

Still a great machine
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
ultras67
Advantages: Reliability, build quality
Disadvantages: slow printing
...I have found is the Epson Stylus 440. I bought this about a year ago because my little brother needed a new printer after our old Panasonic Dot-Matrix printer became obsolete.
This was the lowest in the series of highly acclaimed Epson Stylus series. However, don't underestimate it's compact size, because this printer can pack a punch.
He also needed something affordable. At £120 then, the Stylus 440 was a great deal for those of us who are ...

expensive to run
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
lipgloss
Advantages: easy to work and basic
Disadvantages: expensive running & cleaning costs
I bought my epson a few months after buying my first pc, thinking that it would be a good place to start. It isn’t to expensive, and as printer go, I think it is a good first-time buy.
However, after running it for a year and a half, it seems a bit like a false economy to me. The ink cartridges are not the most expensive around, but they don’t seem to last long, and I have to now run a cleaning cycle at least once a fortnight just to get a decent ...

Cheap Price For Cheap Quality
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
martin.w
Advantages: none
Disadvantages: everything
...so I had to contact Epson to ask them and they quite happily sent me the printer drivers disk free of charge and a complimentary software disk with printer programs so I loaded up the printer and finally got it working.
I was so happy I could not wait to use it so I just printed a test page and it seemed o.k. I then tried to print a photo and that’s where the quality really showed it was s**t I could not believe my eyes when you look in catalogues ...

The best Budget Printer Around
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
simonrogertaylor
Advantages: Good Value
Disadvantages: Slow printing full page photo
The Epson ranges of printers are very good value for money. They may not be the nicest looking or the fastest printing, but the quality for the price range is excellent.
If you use good quality paper, and are prepared to wait the few extra minutes the photo realistic quality of the print out never fails to make me happy. Photo realistic printing comes as standard, so many other makes of printer you have to change the cartridges, to print a photo. ...

buy Hewlett Packard instead!
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
djhendra
Advantages: reasonably priced
Disadvantages: hopeless
...exhaustion.
I replaced it with an Epson Stylus Color 440. The driver was terrible (out of date - had to get a new one off the Net) the printer was very noisy and it lasted the obligatory 12.5 months (how DO they get them to do that...?) I was not used heavily and probably handled less than a thousand sheets. It died. Big time.
I have gone back to Hewlett Packard - I never should have left. Now I have a Deskjet 710C which is quiet, reliable, ...

good little printer
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
broksababe
Advantages: top quality
Disadvantages: not many
I am on my second epson 440, due to getting a new computer and I must say I wouldnt have wanted any other, the printer is fairly cheap to buy but the quality is excellent.
I find it especially good for photographs, they look brilliant and dont really take that long to print.
The printer has lots of features such as , ink check,, head cleaning , nozzle check. The ink cartridges are easy to replace even for me and last quite a long time.
The only ...

Sadly I'm unimpressed
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
LouisaNott
Advantages: Cheap to buy and run, easy to install, adequate print quality
Disadvantages: Sadly, in my experience, they aren't very reliable
I'm unimpressed with this printer, purely because the one I had died within 18 months(and not much printing)...
The printer itself is quite nice looking, and I was really relieved when I realised that it holds both colour and black cartridges, so there's no nasty cartridge-swapping to be done, which is nice. Print quality isn't that bad, with A4 it's certainly acceptable, if a little slow (as per usual) with colour. I found that envelopes and ...

This is the one
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
Verity
Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: The three coloured inks cannot be detatched seperately
...I would definitely recommend the Epson Stylus 440. This printer is easy to install and use, provides a good quality printout and gives a clear indication of how much ink is in each cartridge.
The black and colour cartridges are both installed in the printer so you don’t have to worry about changing them over when you want to print something in black or colour, they can also be changed separately to save on ink.
This printer may not be top of ...

not bad.
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
anthonydowsett
Advantages: good quality print outs.
Disadvantages: a bit slow for impatient people.
We were given the Epson stylus 440 in a package deal with our new computer we bought from time. And let me tell you the time it takes to print good big detailed pictures is quite slow but when they come out the quality is absolutly amazing. I dont mind waiting for it to print as long as it is of a good quality when it comes out. Ive printed quite alot things out using the Epson stylus 440 and there has never been a difference in quality. So hats off ...

Epson stylus color printer
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
willsmj
Advantages: good quality
Disadvantages: few
The Epson stylus 440 color printer is a robust, good quality printer. Having used one now for some two years I have a lot of faith in it. The quality of the print is good, and it is very easy to use. The ink cartridges are not over the top and can be bought in bulk, making them reasonably priced. It's self cleaning facilities are a premium. It is the second Epson I have had and the ongoing improvements by the company towards its printers have resulted ...

Great machine
Review of Epson Stylus Color 440 by
lusks
Advantages: easy to use
Disadvantages: ink cartridges initially hard to replace
We picked the Epsom 440 because of the quality of the print. The salesamn had recommended it and showed comparisons with other printers. It is easy to use and easy to maintain. The software with this printer is also very simple to understand so for novices like us it was imperative that things were not too complicated. You can have it set to economic levels or standard, the economy settings save on ink, especially if you are printing drafts. It is ...
