Epson Stylus Photo R200

AdvantagesQuiet, Quality of print, flexibility

DisadvantagesFiddly CD printing tray

"...edges), and if the recommended Epson photo paper is used, and your original source image is of sufficient resolution, the print quality is excellent. The prints dry very quickly, and the whole thing is very fuss free. The printer connects to the PC via a USB port (there is no parallel connectivity option), but does support bi-directional printing (this means that the printer can report its status back to the user) The ink cartridges (6 of them) ..." Best value for money Photo Printer

AdvantagesSuperb Photo Quality Printer

DisadvantagesManual is on CD

"...I opted for the superb Epson R200. After several weeks of waiting for the printer to come into Argos, I finally got a text message to say that the printer was in stock. So off I went to my local Argos and picked up my printer and straight back home. Now the R200 is quite a fair size, but amazingly it’s not that heavy and as with all Epson printers it is extremely well built and sturdy. Anyway, upon getting home I unpacked the R200 and followed ..." Read review

Excellent quality and value

AdvantagesQuality for the price, CD printing

DisadvantagesInk usage and costs, occasional problems printing CDs

"...that not only did the Epson do a good job of printing CDs, it was also an excellent quality photo printer. I was therefore quite pleased to find out that this is most definitely the case! == CD quality == The printer will print onto "inkjet-printable" CDs. The quality is excellent, and using the supplied software it is easy to design a professional looking label - the end product looking far better than any other non-professional disc I have ..." Photo crazy

AdvantagesDisc printing, cheap compatible cartridges readily available, quiet

DisadvantagesI'm thinking...

"...need to go to the epson site to download the right server for your machine for your pics to come out so well. Ours were coming out really dark until we did that. The disc printing is also great. If you want to print directly onto a disc, the quality is again fantastic. Finding out how to insert the disc tray into the machine is fiddly at first and you have to make sure that there's enough room at the back of the printer for the tray to come out ..." Read review

Overall a top quality printer

AdvantagesFast, Reliable and Pretty Damn Good

DisadvantagesA tad noisy, Can be a bit awkward to get used to

"...have used a number of Epson printers including the C62, CX3200 etc and I honestly can hold my hands up and say they are in my opinion the best printers for value of money. The R200 is one of the first printers to allow you to print directly to a printable DVD or CD, this in itself is a great concept and makes the standard DVD or CD look that much more professional. Use it for creating your own CD or DVD make it stand out from the crowd! Print ..." Read review

Grat price, great printing, great photo pics

AdvantagesFantastic, fast printing

DisadvantagesNoisy, instructions a bit odd

"Im no techy, so I apologise in advance for this low tech review of this printer. This is a review based for your average PC user, not teccy buffs. Anyway, i recently bought this great printer for a nifty £84 (from John Lewis). I looked around at the competition, and I chose this printer for the follwoing reasons: 1) Its small and looks decent 2) Competitively priced compared to other printers 3) Uses different cartridges for different ..." Fast quiet and prints on dvds :-)

AdvantagesQuality of prints, prints onto dvds/cds, price of cartridges

DisadvantagesNone

"...had a number of different epson printers (C42, then CX3200 all in one), when I was looking for a printer that would print on the printable dvd's I had recently bought for my DVD recorder, epson was the first choice. I looked at the R200 and R300, the only difference really being the memory card reader on the R300 which I did'nt need as I have a card reader on my computer and £20 price difference. So having chosen which printer I wanted I looked ..." Read review

AdvantagesFast, Photo Quality Printing, CD Printing, Inexpensive

DisadvantagesNone?

"I have now had the Epson R200 for about 6 months, replacing my old (and very noisy Epson 790). Purchase price was around £60-70 *** While the printer comes with a power cable there is no cable to connect the printer to the computer, if you do not already have one you will need a USB printer cable (about £3-6) USB cable can either be plugged in the front or back Maximum Printable Area Full bleed possible on 4" x 6", 5" x 7", 8" x 10", Letter, ..." Epson has served me well

AdvantagesCheap, prints well with original cartridges

DisadvantagesSlow printing, noisy, expensive ink refills

"...colour. This is when original Epson ink cartridges are used though. I was fed up of paying the extortionate price of these (they’re about £15 each) so chose to buy some ink cartridges from ebay for £1.50! I checked that they were compatible first and they were so I thought I’d give them try. Text documents still came out perfectly, but pictures or photos came out as a jumbled mass of colour, ,so be warned. At only £40 for the printer itself, expensive ..." Read review

R200

AdvantagesGreat print quality, prints on discs, seperate cartridges

Disadvantagesmine didnt come with a manual, a bit chunky

"...the best things of using Epson printers is that you can get 'compatible' cartridges from other manufactureres bery easily. Compatibles are now down to a round a pound each (the printer taked 6 cartridges, one for each colour) whereas epson originals are around 6 pounds each. As mentioned above, the printer takes 6 different ink cartridges, which is very useful, as if one colour runs out, you just need to replace that cartridge instead of the whole ..." Read review

Cheap printing on printable cd's

AdvantagesRequires 6 cartridges

DisadvantagesPrints directly onto "Printable" cd's

"...you can get from the Epson site, I'm just going to tell you what I've done with it and any problems that I encountered. I brought the printer as a 2nd printer and I've used it to print letters, photo's (4" x 6" and A4) without problem. I can't say whether it's pixel perfect because I'm not that bothered but I was happy with what I printed. Printing cd's is a different matter. Firstly you open up the cd printing software and drag in your pictures. ..." Read review

Good reliable printer!

AdvantagesGreat print quality

DisadvantagesExpensive original cartridges but there are alternatives

"The epson stylus photo r200 is a fairly new printer to the market and i usually am quite hesitant about buying new products. I tend to let other people try them first and depending on the feedback purchase it then. However i was desperate for a printer and so purchased this one straight away. The intial cost wasn't to bad i think that the price will have gone down by now. The print quality was brilliant and i could print high quality images and ..." Read review

Very Well Designed, But Oh How Fussy !

AdvantagesEasy to use

DisadvantagesOnly likes its own brand paper

"The Epson Photo R200 is a well thought-out, well designed little printer. It has a front tray that folds up out of the way when not in use; it has a nice compact rounded design that makes it easy to position in the home environment; it has two USB ports: one front, one back; it does not require a transformer (which is the disadvantage of HP printers). The software is easy to use and includes all the features you would require to produce decent looking ..." Read review

One major and unforgiveable flaw

AdvantagesWell priced, looks good, excellent photo prints, easy CD/DVD printing

DisadvantagesTest printing could be better, empty ink cartridge problem (see review)

"...is easy and results, on Epson photo paper, are surprisingly good - although never going to be as good as professional prints. The major flaw, however, really is unforgiveable. The printer uses 6 different colour cartridges and does a good job of monitoring ink levels. However, when any of them are empty, the printer will not print. So I was recently unable to print an important black and white plain text document because my 'light magenta' cartridge ..." Read review

Superb value printer for photos

AdvantagesExcellent photo quality, disc printing, 6 ink cartridges

DisadvantagesCan produce poor text output

"I have owned this printer since Easter 2004 and found it to be excellent for printing photos. General graphics are also usually very good indeed, except for fades, such as a colour fading to transparent with another colour behind, as can be done with PowerPoint or similar. The printer either seems to ignore the fade or ugly lines appear between tones instead of it being a continuous transition. The printer driver is very good with many options. ..." Read review
