Advantages Advantages Price, Quality, ease of use, gives you more control over pictures

Disadvantages Disadvantages If just just want to print normal photos, still cheaper to use a photo shop

As christmas presents go, here is one that I was definitely very pleased with, up until now I have only had a basic printer which I got a good 4-5 years ago, and obviously needed an upgrade! I have always been fond of Epson products, even though my old printer was old as I stated, I had never had any problems with it, which compared to some friends is a big plus, so when I was looking at getting a new (preferably) photo printer, I had decided on an Epson! Thankfully my partner had been listening to me when I had been dropping hints, and already, even though Ive only had it since christmas I ... more

Advantages Advantages Perfect CD printing, Photo paper printing and normal paper printer quality!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Large in size and has a few problems in CD printing (as explained in main review)

Having seen some negative reviews about this printer on amazon, yet still being desperate for a printer that prints on CD's as well as has CISS system available for it (CISS systems reduce printing costs by attatching an ink system onto the printer). I still bought it because it was the only one available for my needs. Setting up the printer with the CISS system took me at least an hour, however once everything was set up, it was perfect for printing on CDs. The ink being not even geniune Epson Ink, was perfect and high quality. The problems that i had was after i set everything up, and was ... more

Advantages Advantages excellent all round while working

Disadvantages Disadvantages Subject to ink problems but Ok with insurance

The Epson Sylus Photo R285 is an excellent printer while it is working. In 12 months I have had two of these printers and both have have had the same fault, that being the sudden inability to recognise full ink cartridges and mule like refusing to budge in any direction. This problem occurs about 2-3 months into its use and seems to be brought on by changing one cartridge. Technical support recognise that there is a fault with apparently no remedy. Fortunately i took out a 3 year guarantee with this and PC World have change the printer. An excellent printer but I would recommend any purchaser ... more

2 Stars Quick review of Epson Stylus Photo R285 by Donnydave48 28/11/2008
I am on my third R285 photo printer all have the same faults, the worse fault being the photo paper jambs at the start and finish of the printing process it also refuses to accept genuine epson cartridges when it is time to change one, and it gets frustrating as you manage it to accept one cartridge another one is refused saying they are empty when they are actually full. It prints text on plain paper fast and faultlessly but this is no good when it ruins your photo,s by jamming and smearing black ink. I am now ready to get ... more

4 Stars Quick review of Epson Stylus Photo R285 by Paliath 27/11/2007
Bought this printer after my first Epson C62 which i used three years. The new Epson R285 printer has some more advanced features which i was looking for esp: CD & DVD printing and high quality photo printing with 6 ink cartridges. Got it for £48 from Valueshop. Not yet time to give a full review of the product. Will publish as soon as possible..

Advantages Advantages Print quality, low price, individual inks

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly bulky design

I purchased this printer for the kids to do homework, but have used it more for myself. The print quality is exceptional. i.e better than a lot of those photo booths you find in Boots etc. You can print to the very edge of all paper sizes upto A4. For this level of print quality at under £100 is great value for money. I found the Claria ink pack for under £40 including delivery. This is for 6 ink cartridges, so under £7 per colour. I prefer to use seperate colours as you only have to replace the colour used rather than an entire combined colour cartridge. As with all photo printers the best ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Epson Stylus Photo R285 by timgriffiths 17/06/2008
I bought this when my Epson 950 stylus died. I was unsure if I would be disappointed and needed some convincing that a unit so much cheaper could deliver - but it does! Up to A4 images are crisp and vobrant with excellent definition - and I'm a Leica photographer. This represents seriously good value for money.

Fine as long as you want to take out a bank loan to pay for Epson Cartridges, trying to find compatible cartridges that are actually compatible and recognised by the printer is a nightmare. Would not recommend it unless you are prepared for either an expensive life or incessant trouble.

    Advantages Advantages Fast Printing Speed

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Extra Features

This printer from Epson is specifically for printing photos with its six colour ink and fast printing black, this R285 is the replacement of the R265. The look of the paper hold is conventional, with folding support at the rear and a pull out, telescopic output tray at the front. The CD/DVD tray slots into this output tray. Epson claims a print speed of 37ppm for black and 38ppm for colour for the Stylus Photo R285. That's about as fast as the Xerox Phaser 6360V/N which costs a couple hundred. 12 seconds for a 15 x 10cm photo print and 16s in draft mode. Although you can tell the difference ... more
