Advantages Advantages Rewarded for doing Your Shopping

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be time consuming, online gift catalogue difficult to navigate.

Imagine being rewarded for something most of us do at least once a week, I am of course, referring to shopping. Well this is what happens when you become a panel member of A C Nielson – Fact Finders. I received an email invitation from Toluna at the beginning of November 2008, and after answering a few questions on my shopping habits, family members etc.. I was informed that I had qualified should I wish to do so, to become a panel member for fact finders, which would involve scanning the items I bought on each shopping trip. An email arrived a couple of days later from A C Nielson asking me ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Adds about ten minutes to a shopping trip

Well, there I was, with time on my hands and thinking I’ll write an op on something that’s not well documented. And what do I find, Moose has beaten me to it! Her excellent op gives a good idea of what Fact Finders is about, but there have been some changes of late and I think it’s worthwhile to let other Ciaoers know. What is it? Fact Finders is the name of an incentive scheme run by A.C. Nielsen, the well-known market intelligence gatherers. ‘Panel Members’ are recruited from each section of the community and from every geographical area of the UK. Like Moose I was recruited by post but you ... more

Advantages Advantages Good range of gifts, superb support desk, get rewarded for something you do anyway, helpful info pack

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit of a hassle scanning your shopping!

Are you one of the masses that, every Friday night, trawl around the nearest supermarket. Do you dread that “bumper car” experience with your trolley, do you get annoyed when your partner/children stops to sniff/read/play with whatever it is that Asda/Tescos/Sainsburys/Safeway et al.. have strategically placed on their shelves? Well I have something that might just make your experience just a tad more bearable! How about if you were rewarded for your weekly trip to the supermarket? HOW DO YOU GET TO BE A REWARDED SHOPPER EXTRAORDINAIRE THEN? I belong to Fact Finders who are part of AC Nielsen ... more

Admittedly I've always been a sucker for reward schemes and this is certainly one in it's true form, so when I heard about the idea I thought I'd give it a go. Fact Finders is a company who specialise in researching people's shopping habits for the benefit of market research. Presumably they then sell this information to supermarket chains for a large profit. And, being the kind people they obviously are, they like to share some of this profit with the people who make it all possible (mugs like me). How nice. When you become a member, Fact Finders send you a keypad with a built in barcode ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick and easy to do. Good rewards.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small problem with redeeming reward points on-line.

I have been scanning my shopping with Fact Finders for over a year now and have had no problems. The setting up of the wand at each scanning session is a bit of a bore as you have to go through the when, who and where bit for each shop but apart from that I enjoy scanning. It does not take long. The wand is easy to use and when not in use sits hidden away on a bottom shelf - I put it there because several people thought it was a phone! The Customer Service department is excellent and regularly get in touch to remind you to scan your top-up shopping and if there are any surveys to do. When an ... more

I have been scanning with Fact Finders for approximately three years now and unfortunately I do have the problem with the phone ringing in the middle of the night. However, it only rings once, maybe twice and as I do not sleep too well anyway it does not really bother me, I have turned the telephone ringer off in my daughter's bedroom so it does not disturb her. I have not had any problems with the eqipment interferring with the PC and my unit sits on the windowsill at the back of the curtain so is hidden from sight. I too was trying to get to the Fact Finders website to have a look at the ... more

Advantages Advantages Saying your consumer opinion, Something for nothing

Disadvantages Disadvantages having the shopping scattered all around the kitchen so you now what you have scanned and not scanned.

I came across Factfinders in the same sort of way as Moose and Netsation, by recieving a survey in the post. As I enjoy filling in surveys I sent it back and low and behold a large box arrived with the scanner, video and handbook in. Oh - Factfinders is a consumer club which has you scan all your shopping, weather it be the weekly shop or even a chocybar for a snack at lunchtime. All the data is recorded through a handheld Barcode scanner, which is then plugged into your phoneline, and their computer system will call and collect the data you have recorded. From doing this you earn points which ... more

I can't really add anything new to the excellent reviews thus far, but what I would say is that the company does seem professional and the monthly newsletter and regular reward points invoice that you recieve at least give the impression that your input has been recoginsed, Unlike many other survey websites. The tantalising competitions featured in the Fact Finders magazine are ever more appealing due to the knowledge that members are entered automatically, without trivial quizes to answer. (I might add though that neither I or my friends and family have won anything, but we live in hope!) After entering ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Non that I have found yet

Looking at the last review it was a few years ago, I have being 'scanning' for about 6 months now. It is really the easiest thing going. the scanner and base station are really smallm scanner just being about 10 cm tall and fits well in the hand and the base station about 5 cm across. You just scan all your shopping when you get home, using the barcode book when it doesn't recognise something, it asks if it was on offer and what type. Then at the end you just enter the total bill amount. You then place the scanner back in the base unit until the next time. It works on a internet line on you ... more

I have recently signed up with fact finders and am very impressed with them. You are sent a hand held scanner and you scan any shopping you purchase. The scanner is placed in the base which is connected to the phone line and the informtion is sent automatically on a Saturday night. I have broadband and was told that so long as you have a micro filter is should not be affected. I found that, although I still had connection, the connection speed was slowing down. I informed fact finders and they suggested sending the info manually so that I don't ... more
