Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them is quite simply an alphabetical listing of magical creatures. Each beast is giving a classification (his helps the reader understand what level of magic is required to control the beast); a description of the beast; the habits and habitats of the beast; the charms that can be used against the beast. The beasts range from the dangerous (i.e. dragon - including the varieties found in the fourth ... ...enjoyable, while trying to give the illusion of being a textbook it still has enough of J K Rowling’s humour in it to make it fairly funny. Harry himself has added his own scribbling to the book giving us an insight into Harry that perhaps isn’t evident from the regular books – it turns out that Harry and Ron really are more mischievous than I thought possible, as well as possessing a large amount of sarcasm (the comment about Hagrid ...

Do you know the difference between an acromantula and a Horklump? No? Well, you'd better rush out and buy a copy of 'Fantastical Beasts and Where to find then' by that world-renowned expert Newt Scamander.
This book, as every Harry Potter who is worth their salt knows, is one of the set books required to be read by all Hogwarts students, and thanks to J.K.Rowling we are now able to read this famous set book, owned by none-other than Harry himself.

Written by J. K. Rowling along with a copy of Quidditch through the Ages, this probably explains why we will be waiting for quite a few more months before we see Harry Potter V.
However, this will have ...

...not read Harry Potter books, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them will probably not make very much sense. To those, like myself, who love Harry Potter, reading the book will fill in little gaps missed out by the main books.
J.K.Rowling wrote the Harry Potter series, a story about a young boy Wizard and his adventures, fighting against the evil Lord Voldemort.

Fantastic Beasts and where to find them, on first glance looks like a small text book, and is supposed to be written by Newt Scamander, a wizard who has spent his life working with such creatures. J.K.Rowling and Comic Relief have teamed together to bring us an exact copy of Harry Potter’s text book - complete with property sticker on the inside, and humorous graffiti dotted throughout but Harry and his best friend Ron.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the second spin-off of sorts to the best-selling Harry Potter books. While fans waited for the fifth book in the series to be released, author JK Rowling released two short books to raise money for Comic Relief - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages. But, this book is slightly different, because it is Harry's own property, and not a library book like Quidditch Through The Ages. Albus Dumbledore, Head-Master of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, writes the foreword to this special edition of the book. He decided to borrow Harry's copy of the book, and have it copied ...

Advantages: A fabulous gem Disadvantages: Too short!
Now I suppose the Ciao people might want to point out that according to the cover this book is in fact by one Newt Seamander and not JK Rowling at all, but even I think you can take this whole Harry Potter thing a bit too far. Essentially, this is Rowling's contribution to Comic Relief and it's only 42 pages long so hardly qualifies as a real book, but given it's place in the Potter mythology it more than deserves a review as it is a true gem.
Right. ... ...school, Hogwarts, requires its pupils to have set texts, several of which are referred to by Rowling in the course of the books. This is one of them. Whether it was Rowling or some BBC bod I have no idea, but someone had the brainwave of asking her to produce one or two of these books to publish and sell for Comic Relief as a kind of Potter spin-off. Two have been published of which this is one (the other is Quiddich Through The Ages). Now keen Potter ...

Advantages: Provides quick recaps on the beasts mentioned in the Harry Potter books Disadvantages: Written in encylopaedaic fashion
This little book is most amusing. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" by J.K. Rowling was a lot smaller than I imagined it but size doesn't matter. This books is most useful as a reference book because it covers many of the creatures which are talked about in all 4 Harry Potter books. When reading the Harry Potter books it is very easy to forget what a Grindylow looks like and what it can do to a wizard when caught unawares.

Advantages: No need to have any background knowledge of Harry Potter to enjoy this, but it has plenty of in-jokes for the die-hard Harry fans. Disadvantages: It's too short, but that's an understandable drawback.
Back in 2001, when I originally wrote this review, the Harry Potter phenomenon had not grabbed my attention the way it grabbed the rest of the universe, and yet I enjoyed this slim volume immensely. It was sold, along with a book about J.K. Rowling's invented wizard game quidditch, to benefit the work of Comic Relief, and inevitably raised an awful lot of money for the cause.

Presented in the form of a textbook for wizards, written by one Newt Scamander, the book is very entertaining reading, offering explanations for the Loch Ness monster, the yeti and other phenomena. was very wary of the Harry Potter phenomenon that arrived not so long ago, in fact I planned to stay far away from these books. Why? Mainly because of the hype. I tend to stay away from Hype so as to not be disappointed, as few things ever manage to reach the lofty heights that they have been put upon. However when it comes to Master Potter, he managed to reach those heights and then some….guess he really is magic!

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is supposedly Harry's own copy, which has been reproduced for the enjoyment of muggles. It comes complete with scribbles in the margin and around the text, from Harry, Ron and Hermione themselves, and is as authentic as a fictional encyclopedia is going to get.

Fantastic Beasts tells us all about magizoology (the study of fantastic beasts) and the 75 different species of beasts.
After the introduction we get a section entitled What is a Beast? Then she tells us of the difference between a beast, a beign and a spirit. What makes this book great is that when you go back a read the Harry Potter books again you know a little more about the different animals and their backround. it's a very fun addition to Harry Potterness. The feature that makes this book fun is the notes scribbled in it by Harry and friends. It makes you feel like your actually holding something that Harry Potter once owned and used.
