For Super Fantasy - set cynicism aside

Advantagescheap books!

Disadvantageshave to order from every magazine, and I'm not fond of the club editions

"...discovered how much I liked fantasy and science fiction, so I joined the club specifically for that. So, first bit of advice for anyone thinking of joining one of these book clubs: make sure you have a fairly big interest in the particular genre. That first club I joined didn’t stick to one area, and I had difficult finding books I wanted. With FSF (Fantasy and Science Fiction), I had difficulty not spending too much! It’s worth pointing ..." Reading From Your Armchair

AdvantagesSpecial Offers, Great Variety, Easy To Use

DisadvantagesEditors Choices, Postage Charges, Minimum Membership Orders

"...best range of Sci-Fi and Fantasy material I've found anywhere. Since it is genre specific, you never have to hunt for that next book in a series again. First time authors are profiled and there are member reviews as well as the Editors Choices. I have to mention that although the Editors Choices can be inconvenient, they can also coincide with your own tastes!! Quite often the book I want by a major author is also the Editor's Choice. The books available ..." Read review

Fantasy and SF book club

AdvantagesReduced prices

DisadvantagesLack of stock consistency

"...hardback) bearing in mind that fantasy and SF is a niche market and most of the titles won't be top 10 bestsellers which would result in major retailers reducing them by 50%. Slightly older stock will be sold at reduced prices ocasionally e.g. 2 books for £16 P&P is around £3 no matter how many books are ordered and I have found the best way round this is to ask friends if they want anything from the magazine, thereby increasing the size of the ..." Join the club

AdvantagesGreat choice, amazing prices

DisadvantagesYou do have to comit to ordering every magazine

"...are a serious sci-fi and fantasy fan (like me!) then having to order 6 from a blind list or worse having someone else’s choice forced on you is a nightmare. But since the bad mad old days of book clubs they have invented a little thing called the Internet. And this really has made all the difference in the world. While I can't speak for other book clubs what I can tell you about the Science Fiction and Fantasy club is that they are superb. ..." Read review

Fantasy/Science Fiction Books

AdvantagesLow Priced, Variety of Authors in that Genre

DisadvantagesBook Commitment, Editors Choice, Poor Delivery, Low Customer Service

"The Fantasy & Science Fiction Book Club (FSF) is an online and catalogue based book club, offering readers the chance to purchase Fantasy and Science Fiction books, at great savings against the recommended retail price (RRP). *Introductory Offer from FSF* I originally joined FSF in June 03, on the recommendation of a friend, and have purchased many books from the FSF website. I rarely use the catalogue to order from as I find it time consuming, ..." Read review

Book Club mayhem

AdvantagesGood selection of books and cheaper

DisadvantagesEditor's choice

"...reader of Science fiction and Fantasy so this club definitely sounded ideal for me. All you have to do is sign up, order 4/5 books at an introductory prices and then purchase regularly from the catalogue, which is sent once every two months. Videos, special deals, collectables, were all on offer. Still interested then read on.......... Everything had been going right, so I really had nothing to complain about but when things went wrong then ..." Read review

Deals of Fantasy

AdvantagesVERY good introductory deals

Disadvantagesobligatary ordering from each magazine

"...from harcore science fiction and fantasy fans buying huge amounts of books. Pro's and con's time peeps. The pro's are, as I mentioned before are the great intro deals and club omnibuses. The bad things are generally hat there isn't much choice in the catalogues. I don't mean that it doesent cater for any sub-genre fan but for instance there are only the newer Discworld books (ie monsterous regiment or going postal)and none of the older ones. All ..." Don't be fooled...there's always a catch

Advantagesvery good internet ordering service, and do not need credit card to become a member

Disadvantagescustomer services take long time to respond to calls and emails.

"I joined the club via the net about 8 months ago. I liked the fact that you could order very easily over the web without having to make a payment up front, and there was no need for a credit card which is unfortunately the norm with this type of club, especially for me, who doesn't trust themself with such payment method! I was very pleased with my initial purchases, being a fan of star wars, Iain Banks and comic art. The selection of sci-fi books, ..." Read review

Great for the cheap books.

AdvantagesWide selection of books and dvds on the website

DisadvantagesIf you leave it too late to order a book every month they send you ones you dont want.

"I joined this book club about 4 months ago, i mainly did it for 5 books for 50p each offer. I wasnt really too bothered about having to buy a book every month because i read quite a bit, but the main problem is you have a certain amount of time in which to order your next book and if you dont order one by that date then they will send you the editors choice which is usually one to three books that come to about £20 plus delivery. Then there ..." Read review

Scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ish)

AdvantagesVery good priced books, and a great introductory package

DisadvantagesPostage is quite high, there is a minimum membership

"...Buffy fan, I joined the Fantasy and science fiction book club after a leaflet through the post, mainly for the introductory package, which, although there are different offers from time to time, was very good. I got lots of Buffy and Angel books at an unbelieavable price. It was less that 1/100th of their retail value. The price was made quite a lot higher by postage costs, which were around 4.00 (pounds sterling.) They offered a great range of titles ..." Read review

Fantasy and Sci-Fi Book Club FSF.co.uk

AdvantagesGreat selection, good deals, good service, great starter package

Disadvantagesordering every issue, account penalties, editors choice

"I found this book club in a magazine, advertising "5 books from as little as 50p" The deal was brilliant the books well recieved and what a bargain! I checked out the online selection and was very pleased,, I had magazines every two months and was required to buy a book from the first four, after which I ordered two more books and ended my membership so I could catch up on all the reading I have to do. I will join again it saved me over a ..." Read review

Couldnt resist the special offer :(

AdvantagesGood if you read lots for books

Disadvantagespost and editors choices

"As most of the books I normally read are sci fi I thought I would join up and get the specail offers they had. I had been a member of the world book club and hadn't had any problems what so ever. As these are where related clubs I thought I would have any trouble. It started out ok I got my special offers and the next couple of books I odered ok after that it all went down hill. Due to one thing and another I was away from home so when the club magazine ..." Read review

3 wasted months

AdvantagesEasy to use site - good range of books

DisadvantagesAppalling customer services, non delivery of all items ordered

"I first ordered my introductory books in September 2004, I have rung them on numerous occasions between then and now, to be informed that there was a problem with their despatch department. They then said they had had a problem with their couriers so had changed these and that had caused the delay. I have rung again today after many many emails toing and fro'ing to be informed that there had been a despatch problem again and that the books had been ..." Read review

A good company with good people

AdvantagesGreat service

DisadvantagesNone really

"I bought my books with the offer that saved me about £70 than if I'd bought in the shops. All the harry potter books hardback, Lord of the Rings and some others too. Anyway, you sign up for a year, promising to buy at least one book a month and you can buy on the internet or on the phone. (the choice is better on the internet) The book always arrives within a few days and if you're not happy, you can swap it for another one. Customer services ..." Read review
