...2004: I don't know what Felix have done, but I have been struggling to get my cats to eat this lately! I rather suspect that the recipe has been changed, but certainly my cats have gone off it! I would still recommend it to anyone, as it is still good quality, but I guess sometimes cats just have their own tastes. Sheesh!

FELIX AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS....SUCCULENT STEAKLETS
As you can see from Grotty's account I have at last managed to wean her off her addiction to Whiskas Oh so fishy with Felix's premium pouches. So here goes with the review.
PACKAGING.............
The package is the standard cuboid shape with a picture of a tasty looking bowl of cat food. There is an easy tear stripalong the top of the box which rips easily. Not so good for lazy ... ...out from the top of the box so I need to take the box out of my cupboard to extract the pouches.
There is information about the contents of the pouches, and contact details for Purina who manufacture this product.
There are 12 pouches in a box.
The pouches themselves are standard size and open easily with little notches either side to show you where to tear.
WHAT'S IT LIKE............
Opening the pouch releases a very pleasant smell, so good ...

...smell very tempting! Felix canned meat cuts in jelly -mmmm,my cats definitely prefer this to any of that Whiskas stuff! Available in 400g cans, the price varies from about 40p upwards depending where you buy it but the average supermarket price seems to be about 43p per can. I lose count of the number of varieties they do - tuna, chicken, rabbit, beef, duck & heart, turkey, lamb & turkey, duck & rabbit, salmon & trout, cod, mackerel & plaice to name ... ...are big eaters. There is rarely any waste - they seem to enjoy licking the jelly off first then going straight in for the chunks! Felix also do other cat food such as dry snacks and treats but this is their main food.
My cats recommend it! ...

...and Razor - would eat Felix Foil Trays and NOTHING ELSE. Fair enough. Or that's what I thought until I got to the supermarket and found that this was just about the most expensive cat food they sold. So began my attempts to surreptitiously introduce the hitherto spoiled pets to cheaper, less extravagant meals. Alas, they had been used to the finer things in life and all other cat foods remained in their bowls to go rancid while the cats constantly ... ...I am resigned to buying Felix Foil Trays for ever more. So what's so special about them? First, the packaging. This cat food is not in tins but, as its name suggests, is in little gold-coloured foil trays with peel-off lids. Each contains 100g of food which according to the blurb on the tray is enough for the average cat for one day. Not for mine, however, who each eat one and a half trays per day. Or should I say Felix moisture, because according to the ingredients listed on the tin 82.5% of the contents is moisture with only 8.5% protein, 5.5% oil, 2.5% ash and 0.5% fibre. Presumably the remaining 0.5% is added vitamins.
Even so Spike seems to thrive on his regular diet of Felix as his litter tray will testify to.
It says on the can top, “Tasted and approved.” I wonder who tasted it to ...

Felix cans cost 48p each but are worth it, there is 400g in a tin and this can be used for up to 3 feeds. There are different kinds of the food, they are all in jelly and my cat seems to prefer this. He loves all of the flavours, quite a variety and you can buy them in boxes of 6 or 12. The flavours of the foods are turkey,BEEF, lamb and turkey, trout and shrimp, salmon and prawn and duck and rabbit etc. Fish flavours and ... ...which come off easily. The felix logo is on the blue orange and yellow background with the cute black and white cat's face staring. Around the blue ribbok on the paper around it it says in jelly. The tins are rounded at the bottom so the metal isn't sharp and won't scratch the furniture.
I know a lot of friends who feed Felix to their cats more than other brands and the advertising has always been known with the black and white cat nudging its owner ...

Felix cat food is a complete pet food for adult cats. For an average adult cat (3.5kg) feed up to 1 can per day , preferably in 2 seperate meals. For pregnant or nursing cats , feed as much as your cat will eat. Food should be served at room temperature.

...have recently bought the new Felix Duo from my local supermarket; well I’m sure you all agree that our special little furry balls of joy deserve something a bit different and special now and again.
The first thing I noticed about the Duo cans was that there are only available to buy in packs of 3! Which is a pain if your cat doesn't like one of the flavours! The 3 flavours are:
1 - Cod and Salmon
2 - Beef and lamb
3 - Chicken and turkey
... ...thing to come out of Felix duo is that your cat has a food with double flavour and texture.
All in all I would say its up to you, if your cat leaves food and comes back to it, stay away from this product, but if your cat has set meals and eats it all up in one go, it will probably be worth every penny! ...

I have tried other well known brand names such as Whiskas which is more or less in the same price bracket, along with shops own brand, and l can tell by the way the food is in the dish at the end of the day that she has not been impressed.
I would also note from a personal view that Felix is the brand that smells the least. I can tell when another brand has been used to feed her highness because the smell ... ...wide variety of choice with Felix and even seasonal meals such as Turkey at Xmas! Shes seems to lap them all up! I would note that perhaps she is not so keen on the gravy varietys as opposed to the jelly ones - but l personally cannot comment!
On top of the tinned food available, felix do an excellent selection of other products such as dry food in various flavours, cat milk in dinky wee bottles, trays for one food portion, various treats ranging ...

...had heard good things about Felix plus the fact of it being slightly cheaper than other popular brands and having a wide range of flavours, decided to try my luck with it.
At first I tried the gravy variety but my cats were more interested in licking the gravy off the meat than actually eating it so I swapped to the jelly variety. Bingo! every mealtime, the dishes were empty although I did have to chop it up a little bit because some chunks tended ... ...with the cat food and Felix provide all nutritional information on the website which is a very good idea.
They do a whole range of options inc: pouches, Adult variety, Kitchen variety and a Senior variety in various flavours.
New kitten owners can also order a free kitten pack from the website and from labels. When you receive a Felix kitten pack, it is full of really useful information, 3 pouches of kitten food, money off coupons and a toy mouse.

Advantages: I don't see it again after my cats have eaten it... Disadvantages: It smells bad. But all catfood does right?!
Felix is the only brand of food that my cats will eat without being, well, shall we say...unwell! Delicate little things - or you'd think so to read that anyway! Seriously, as far as I'm concerned, this is the best tinned catfood on the market - two out of two of my cats eat it without puking (although I'm quite sure that this will not be the slogan for their next ad campaign!).
They aren't so keen on the lumps in gravy (I think it has a specially ... ...And they don't tell you how messy it leaves the dish on the tin either...), but they like the lumps in jelly a lot (although why I do not know - it looks positively revolting to me - good job I'm not a cat or I'd soon starve!).
It's about the right price (although that does vary from supermarket to supermarket), and since I'm not about to spend vast amounts on preparing fresh chicken or steak for my cats (much to their chagrin!), it does the job ...

Cats as you know are fussy creatures, ours are no exception. They refuse point blank to eat anything other than Felix. Not that I am complaining. This product is well priced and seems to contain the right balance of nutrients and minerals they need for a healthy diet.
They prefer the jelly variety over the one with gravy, I must say that I do to, no I don't eat it, it's just less messy when you are serving it to them.

Having 2 cats and having tried just about every type and brand of cat food on the market, its true, cats do prefer Whiskas (or FELIX).
I've seen it for myself - cats turning their noses up at food!!
Some may say they will eat it if they are hungry (my husbands favourite) but I've proved that even that doesn't work.
I've even tried starving them but they still refuse to eat the shop's own brands or the cheaper brands. They just go off in a sulk ... ...worse - they start to bring home little presents like mice and birds!!!
My solution is instead of loads of waste (they won't eat it if it has been sitting for any length of time - would you?) buy trays or singles. My 2 cats eat about 3 trays (usually Felix) between them a day, as well as some dried food and there is never any waste. This also does away with the bad smell tinned cat food brings - I've found that the trays don't smell as bad, if at ...
