Advantages Advantages Cross cut shreds easily small and handy for the home

Disadvantages Disadvantages No child safety devise cuts out after 5 minutes as over heats

We have had this Fellows P50cm cross cut shredder for about 4 years now and it is still going strong so hence its time I wrote about it and how we use it. Why shred ************ In these days of identity theft and tabloid journalist rummaging through bins for information shredding has become much more a part of everyday life for most of us who don't want some one to possibly steal our bank details, or our torrid love letters from Brad Pitt to end up on the front page of The Sun. Shredders can be either straight cut but really this isn't much better than ripping it up by hand as someone can ... more

    Advantages Advantages Economical, efficient, smart(ish)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly noisy, can't handle huge volumes

The thought of having a paper shredder at home had never really occurred to me until a couple of months ago. I’d only ever seen the industrial-sized one in the office, and if I’d had one of those at home, I’d have had repetitive nightmares about falling in. Times change, however, and I’ve suddenly become all security conscious. My philosophy of a paperless office therefore now extends to having a paperless office and home, and a paper shredder was therefore a bit of a necessity. Why bother? Unfortunately, as technology becomes more sophisticated, so do thieves. A letter ... more

Advantages Advantages cross shreds paper into tiny pieces, works really well, cheap, safe, looks good

    Disadvantages Disadvantages no disadvantages

I have over the past 6 months had my identity stolen twice and it had never occurred to me that by just ripping my bank statements, credit card bills and other utility bill up and throwing them away I was giving thieves a helping hand towards getting their ill gotten gains. The hassle of having your bank account emptied, several mobile phones being purchased and registered in my name made me vow to do everything I could to protect my personal information short of setting fire to statements as and when they arrived. The range of paper shredders for the home is mind boggling and a clear sign of ... more

    Advantages Advantages Reasonaly cheap, Quick

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy, Low volume

I have used shredders for years. At work we have some heavy duty high security shredders which cost hundreds. At home I last owned a shredder about 5 years ago. At this time I went through 5 of them before getting my money back. They just couldn't handle a decent volume of paper. Recently I decided it was time to try again.....what with the recent increase in ID theft. Argos had an offer on the Fellowes P50CM at just over £30. As it was a cross cut shredder it provided better security than most of the other home shredders which just cut into strips. It also looks alot better with its satin ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Fellowes P50CM Paper Shredder by Evermoor 05/02/2008
I've had this P50CM shredder for several years doing home office shredding, and am very satisfied with it. More than once, I have put more than the 100 page limit through the machine. Just keep the blades lightly oiled, pace your self with not more than 2-3 pages at a time, and one will be surprised how fast your shredding job can go! Excellent buy.

Advantages Advantages Transparent bin, strong, reliable shredding

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

This is the best shredder I've used so far! However, that must be considered in relation to the previous 2 that I owned, both of which lasted about 10 mnutes! I originally wanted a shredder purely for personal use, for shredding documents that were private, and bank statements, etc. So I didn't want to spend hundreds of pounds on an office quality shredder that I was only going to use twice a month. I bought the first 2 for £15, and both died instantly (one from staples which it said it coudl handle, the other simply from over-heating after only 5 minutes of shredding!). This one cost a little ... more

    Advantages Advantages decent size

Disadvantages Disadvantages mesh basket (always use a liner)

I have had several shredders and probably because I bought cheap and cheerful ones they each have had a short life. I admit I have only owned this 'fellow' for a week but I was impressed before I even got it out of the box. It was quite heavy and felt solid, much more sturdy than my other shredders. I am glad I read the instructions first (Yes - I am one of those people) as I wouldn't have thought to put a bag inside the mesh container to stop my carpet getting covered in confetti and paper dust. I am also impressed with the speed of shredding. Some reviews complain about the noise but after ... more
