Advantages Advantages Worked as contraception for me, no lactose coating, no serious side effects, no weight gain.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Worsened PMT and cramps, periods not controlled and erratic, 3 hour window to take it.

*Warning graphic review about periods and sex* Why I am on Femulen in the first place is really a story in itself to be honest. I have a very severe dairy allergy, and you may not know this, but nearly all contraceptive pills are coated in Lactose (well apart from Femulen and a select few others) so hence why I chose this pill. I was previously trying out Ortho Evra (also known as the contraceptive patch) and since this is roughly 3 times the strength of your normal pill, and with a GREATLY increased risk of blood clotting, I came off it straight away after only a week. That and the fact I ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages doesnt stop and STI's m'dears!

Femulen – well it brings a whole new meaning to the saying pop pills… as they are commonly known as POP (progestogen – only – pills) I first started taking these a number of years ago, following a rather hmmm embarrassing visit to my General Practioner. I went to see him as I was already sexually active and wanted to reduce the risks of becoming pregnant after a few episodes of the “god im late…. Test quickly” I decided that I should be sensible. Anyways he discussed with me all the different contraceptives there was available for moi….. In the end it was decided that I should take the ... more

Advantages Advantages 99% safe against pregnancy, comes in three month calander packs

Disadvantages Disadvantages Has to be taken at same time, no protection against STD's

I'd never taken the pill before and after the birth of my first baby decided it was time to try it. I spoke to my doctor at my six week check and explained my interest on going on the pill. I was asked some general health questions before it was determined which pill to give me. There are two main types which are progestogen only pill(mini pill) or progesteron and oestrogen(combined pill). The progestogen only pill is also suitable if you decide to breastfeed as it does not effect you milk flow unlikt the combined pill can. Because I had suffered migraines in the past it was decided I would ... more

Advantages Advantages 90 - 99% effective against pregnancy

Disadvantages Disadvantages You have to remember to take it around the same time daily

After many years of headaches and being very ill on other contraceptives, my doctor suggested we tried femulen. Don't be put off, there are many different contraceptives out there, talk to your doctor or family planning nurse, there will always be something to suit you. Femulen may not necessarily be the one for you. Femulen is a contraceptive pill, it contains ethynodiol diacetate, which is hormone called progestorone. It is also known as the mini pill. It comes in three blister packs each containing 28 tablets. It is 90-99% effective against pregnancy's. Unlike the combined pill which ... more

Advantages Advantages Quite effective about not giving me mood swings.

Disadvantages Disadvantages No periods, (though for some this could be an advantage)

I have been on the contraceptive pull for a few years now, and after getting several Migranes, I was put on the mini pill. I tried a few different mini pills, but after some giving me periods every other week (no good for me) and others no period at all. (cue me, constantly worrying about being pregnant) I decided to go back to the doctors and try another type. The doctor put me on Femulen, which has to be taken around the same time every day, and in a 3 hour window. This is okay for me as I am like clockwork taking a pill, but I know for some 3 hours doesn't work so well, if they are on shift ... more
