FIAT Cinquecento SX A HUGE CAR....on the inside

Advantages: Cheap to buy, run and in theory insure, small, well engineered and spacious, yes, very spacious!
Disadvantages: Windscreen wiper speed (see op), none really.

...I was interested in the Fiat 500’s and the 126, though they’re getting a little elderly now. The Cinquecento is a small car, ideal for learning to drive in and is also relatively new, but still affordable. My friend who is also 17 purchased one as his first car before me and when I was taken out for a ride in his I was incredibly impressed. My Fiat is a Cinquecento SX model, which has a couple of added extras such as electric windows, sunroof and ...
...when you climb into this Fiat is the space. You expect it to be a cramped and small car, when in fact it is a spacious and roomy car. It will comfortably seat 5 people. The most space is given to the passengers travelling in the front of the car. The driver has an excellent driving position. You really do feel as though this car has more space than your average family saloon. Fiat claim that this car was designed ‘from the inside out.’ With 58% of ...

Cinquecento Sporting is good fun but oh so fragile

Advantages: Good economy, cheap insurance, fun to drive & reasonably nippy.
Disadvantages: Too fragile by far.

...to replace my wife's old FIAT Panda. We wanted something cheap to run, yet fun & reliable. Well, it's cheap as far as petrol consumption and insurance is concerned, but not as far as parts & servicing is concerned. The car is a 1997 model and after approximately 18 months of running it the following issues have arisen :- Passenger door fell off due to hinge rusting, seizing, then breaking. Rear wheel bearing failed. Engine mount failed. Exhaust ...
...has a harder life than FIAT intended. I woundn't recommend one if you intend to do a large mileage (ours has just over 45K on the clock now). However, for town use it would be fine. Things to be aware of if you're considering buying one:- Knocking from rear suspension - this means that the bushes are shot on the trailing arms. You cannot get the bushes separately, so you have to get a whole new arm, approx £100 a side, plus fitting. Rear dampers ...

...car. My 899cc 1996 model Fiat Cinquecento. When I first saw it I was less than impressed to be honest. So bloody small, not as boxy as a Panda, but not far off. A tiny pathetic little excuse for a car. Two and a half years later, and this is a serious relationship. I have never had any problems with him. He's never needed any major work doing (apart from when some idiot man drove into the back of him - he might be small, but he's still visible. ...
...to know if you're thinking of investing in one of these... The engine capacity is small, at 899cc it's more lawnmower than formula one. But it's nippy. I can make speedy get aways at the lights (provided I have no excess luggage or passengers weighing me down). It's small but perfectly formed engine means it is more than just economical for petrol. A full tank (a whopping 30l give or take according to the pumps) lasts a good 250 miles or so. I know, ...

Efficient and compact, but not that powerful.

Advantages: It is very efficient and is nice and 'nippy'.
Disadvantages: The engine isn't that powerful, so struggles up hills.

Well, with an 899 cc engine what do you expect? One thing you do expect – and that’s cheaper insurance and cheaper tax. Since the engine is so small it is extremely efficient. For example, it’s been driven from Birmingham with a full tank to Manchester and there’s still half left! It may be a small engine, but it is reliable – the engine starts every time. As far as safety is concerned I am unsure. As far as I know it does not come equipped with ...
...have a clue. The car is fairly sturdy and is fine around corners. For a small car it is about as roomy as its rivals. There’s adequate room in the front of the car for both passenger and driver. It is a little cramped in the back, although it depends on whether you have the seat forward or not. The boot has an average amount of space. Don’t expect the kind of space you see in a saloon or hatchback. Like the rest of the car, comfort factor is basic. ...

...you can't expect too much.If Fiat had came up with a better design, a more responsive engine, and a safer feeling car and combined this with build quality and reliability, this car would have been much better. It does not compare to a late 1990's Toyota Yaris n any way, shape or form. I also never understood why Fiat did not fit a glovebox to this car-this means any valuables are on full public display, although the boot is so small this could double ...

Advantages: Nippy, Cute, Comfortable, Loads of personality, Economical, Low Insurance
Disadvantages: Doesn't go very fast, can't accelarate to save it's life.

I orignally bought this car because I wrote off my beautiful Nissan Micra Colette and needed another cheap car quick. It was suggested that I buy this because I am small and only feel comfortable driving small cars. It is very economical and has a low insurance group. It was bought at an auction in Northern Ireland for a ludicrously cheap amount and brought over here. The one I own is white and is in very good condition. You will not fel comfortable ...

It has an 899cc engine, so although very nippy and extremely economical (£30 to fill, does over 400 miles) when driving around town and in traffic, it is not suitable for drag racing or long frequent trips on the motorway. I have driven it from Birmingham to Leeds a few times, and drive 4 motorway ...

Whilst in between real cars i purchased one of these wee cars to get me about. It cost £500 and had not one spec of rust on it. It was very clean inside and out and didnt look uite as naff as a fiesta or similar (im long since past considering metros etc!) Inside the car was finished to a reasonable (if basic) standard. Advantages: small, cheap, cheap to run, but above all, CUTE!!
Disadvantages: resembles the "Trotters Independant Traders" three wheeler shape!!!

I have just purchased a little "metallic" green baby, which I have subsequently named "Pete". I haven't actually picked it up yet, so it's kinda "early doors" to go on about how great it is!! However, I have only paid £2500 for an "M" reg 900 model, and it only has 13000 on the clock. 1 owner, brand new MOT, full service and three months parts and labour warranty (through Bryan Brothers), and she is spotless. It's kinda bobby basic inside, but totally adequate for someone who wants a cheap, cute, little car, that is again cheap on Insurance, tax and petrol. I have actually been told, that at the moment, it should cost around £28.00 to get "Chuck" or "Hal" at the petrol station to "fill 'er up", but she will appear to run on air, as she drinks sod all petrol. ...

Advantages: Cheap, small, easy to drive
Disadvantages: Potential Death Trap, Shabbily Made

I bought one of these 18 months ago, in good condition, low mileage at a good price. However, I would never ever buy one again or reccommend it to anyone. Firstly, it is shabbily made. Everything in the cockpit falls off, doesn't stick, wobbles, rattles, has needed re-setting, replacing or removing. Secondly, due to an overheating problem I've recently found out is common amongst these cars, I've had to have the cooling system completely replaced ...
...low a mileage (approx 40k) should not have had to have this done, at huge cost. Finally, I've recently been informed about NCAP tests which list the Seicento as the mini-car most likely to feature a fatal blow to/piercing of the abdomen in an accident, at as low a speed of 30mph. So how can a cinquecento compare? Therefore, my family members have all advised me to get rid of this tinpot before anyone in a sturdier car (or possibly a cyclist) hits ...

Cinquecento still awesome after all these years.

Advantages: Cost, economy, fun to drive, size
Disadvantages: Wouldn't get near 1 EuroNCAP star

Don't agree with the vast majority of colchedders review. I've got one and although not quick, it'll still do 0-60 in around the 15 second mark, and I ALWAYS travel at 80mph on motorways and dual carriageways - in fifth. It even stays in fifth at 80mph going up the hills - no problem whatsoever. Granted if you want to cruise permanently at more than 80 then don't get the 0.9, but what do you expect from a tiny 50mpg motor (Yes even at 80mph). Although ...
...off the clock which reads up to about 105mph, in reality it was probably doing around 95mph max, (and I certainly wouldn't advise anyone attempting this unless they know what they're doing as it was slightly unstable at those speeds) but to claim that it's horrendously slow is an over exaggeration. I've done a lot of mileage in the past year and a half and not once have I had any mechanical problems, and the only thing that could be slightly annoying ...

...to drive in an old Fiat 126 about 15 years ago, and had always had a soft spot for tiny little cars. My ideal would of been a Smart Car, but they're still a bit pricey, so I went hunting for a Cinq. I finally found a lovely P reg Black Cinquecento S. There is a surprising amount of glass, and you do feel a bit like you're ...

Ideal first car

Advantages: Cheap to run, easy to park, reliable
Disadvantages: Too small?, Probably needs more power for motorway use

The Fiat Cinquecento is my first ever car. Although now on its last legs it's has worked out as tremendous value for money buying it for £400 4 years ago. In this time we have had few mechanical issues and it has been into the garage only 6 or 7 times. To drive the Cinq is adequate. I would say ideal for a new driver. The small engine means that speeding is almost impossible but does make motorway driving difficult. It is, however, not such a large ...
...light and can reach speeds of up to 90mph. Power steering is not missed as the car is so small but manouvres such as a 3 point turn can be hard work! The size of the car also makes it ideal for city driving, especially when it comes to parking in tight spaces! Lookswise the Cinq is pretty standard. The car is, in my opinion. a nice shape but for me personally it is a little on the small side (I'm 6'4"!). Having said that inside the car is very spacious. ...

A Very Sporting Fiat

Advantages: Handling, Economy, fun, steering, practicality....
Disadvantages: Sounds like a washing machine (a quiet one)

I bought this Red Fiat to replace my ageing Alfa 33 Cloverleaf, which was only managing 15 miles on every gallon of petrol. I thought this little car would be just economical and practical and a bit more reliable. How wrong I was. Don't get me wrong, its all of those things and more. But its also FUN FUN FUN. The statistics say 54BHP (lawn mowers have more) 0-60 in 14.2 secs (no really) BUT....on the road it seems fast. The engine revels in revs, ...

Quick review of Fiat Cinquecento 0.9

I brought a Cinquecento about 3 months ago, although there was a couple of problems to begin with (There was a major leak coming from the gear box which meant it was very difficult to change gear and to KEEP it in 5th!) There was also a problem with the handbrake ...well the lack of it! (Which isn't unusual!). Other than this she is a fantastic car, and she drives brilliantly! Its great for beginners, its great on fuel consumption and great on price. I brought mine for £440 and I don't regret it one little bit. It doesn't have a glovebox, which I think is a good thing, considering it doesn't encourage you to leave valuables in the car! She's slower than most cars but she has alot of character [ = ...
