    Disadvantages Disadvantages Electrics!

Although I have resisted, I can resist no more the time has come, its time to enlighten you all to the virtues of owning a Fiat Punto. As some of you already know, I am probably the number one enthusiast of Fiat, with my present love being my trusty Punto called Fifi. I know what you are all saying, how can you adore a Punto, after all aren’t Fiat’s the lowest of the low, the rust buckets of all cars, the cars that no one admits to liking! But I’m going to tell you exactly why you, like I, may grow to love a Punto! My relationship with Fiats has spanned over the last ten years graduating ... more

Advantages Advantages Economical, Cheap to insure, nippy around town !

Disadvantages Disadvantages Thin body, dents easily

Being a short person (5ft nothing), when I look for a car I like to be able to see over the steering wheel....it is also quite handy to be able to see the back end !!! I have driven some tanks in my time and, after 20 years of driving, I wanted something small, sexy and comfortable....like me !!! Luckily the company I work for offer substantial discounts on all new Fiats. So off I went to my local Fiat dealer, to see what they could offer me in the small hatchback range. They were extremely helpful and I finally settled on a 1.2 Fiat Punto.I will also say at this point that their after sales ... more

Advantages Advantages Fuel economy and cheap to insure

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Several

You know the saying that a dogs bark is often worse than its bite, well the same can be said for trees. Following a car accident in April which resulted in my car being written off after an altercation with sycamore tree, I was in search of some new wheels. After much deliberation I opted for a Fiat Punto S60 which was on a P (1997) plate, with just over 51,000 miles on the clock and was priced at £1,600 from a car dealer. This was around £200 less than the price suggested by Parkers Car Price Guide, so I considered it a bit of a bargain. EXTERNALLY Punto's are probably not the best looking ... more

Advantages Advantages Fairly inexpensive to buy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Parts are expensive, insurance grouping is high

As you fellow Ciaoers may know by now I do like to write the occasional car op. After having driven the face-lifted model Fiat Punto I could not resist putting "pen to paper." The Fiat Punto has been "re-invented" since it first appeared on our roads, the very latest version has modified light clusters and a few other adjustments, but is very similar to the range made up to 2003. What does it look like ? ************************* The Punto is one of the smaller Fiats (Fiat have just launched the NEW Panda), the Punto is available in both 3 and 5 door. Compared to most cars if it's class it is ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, "fun" looking, cost-effective driving

Disadvantages Disadvantages Plethora of faults, useless aftercare, appalling build

When one car became too impractical for the two of us, my partner opted to buy her own. Her requirements were quite simple… it had to be: a) small, b) easy to park, and c) “funky” and young-looking. With several cars in mind, eventually we settled, quite by accident, for some “Spirito Di Punto” (as the adverts promised us). We purchased a silver 1.2 3 door base model Punto, X registration (year 2000), for the princely sum of £3300 private sale, with 42,000 on the clock. As this was in 2003, the mileage was a little high, but as this was a second car; we knew we wouldn’t be driving anywhere ... more

Advantages Advantages None that spring to mind

Disadvantages Disadvantages To many to list

A short while ago, some kindly soul reversed what I would imagine to be a wagon into my car and left the scene as they say without leaving his or her details. No problem straight on the phone to my insurers, details given and the claim accepted within twenty minutes, great. A courtesy car was to be provided by the body shop, a reputable company based here in the North East of England which duly arrived within the hour on the back of a recovery wagon. A Vauxhall Corsa was the vehicle provided as replacement for mine, however when I turned the key I was greeted with a violent knocking noise from ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice to drive, a good first car

Disadvantages Disadvantages Depreciates quicker than an X Factor winner

Having recently handed over our RAV4 to the body shop for some extensive repairs I have had the dubious pleasure of using a Fiat Punto as a courtesy car. While not a like for like replacement for our car, as there was no one else to blame for my situation I had little option but to accept the car offered or hire another at my own expense. The model I have received is the three door 1.2 Active Sport. On an 05 plate with just over 20,000 on the clock my initial reservations have been reversed by what has turned out to be a very pleasant car indeed. Performance~ With just the driver on board this ... more

This review is the first part of a review series called “Motor Madness”. This series is about four cars in particular that I have had a good long experience with, and am able to give them a fairly through review, appraising both their strengths and weaknesses. Two of these cars are small hatchback cars aimed at the “city run-around” market, one is an award winning family car which is very popular with both families and companies as a fleet car choice. The last car will be our experience with an executive car that was not so good on reliability terms. The first car in my ... more

    Advantages Advantages good all rounder

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

There always comes a time when we are fed up with our current car and want to move onto something new and that time has come for me. I currently have a Fiat Punto Active Sport in Imola Yellow (Bright Yellow) to suit my personality but its warranty has just expired, I'm a little bit fed up of of and want to try something different, particularly looking at Honda Civic or possibly Seat Leon. Over the years, I have had 4 Fiat vehicles, at one point I was marketing manager for a Fiat dealership so I suppose I was being loyal to the brand there and tended to stick to what I knew best but overall I ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to run and Fun to Drive, Excellent Value for Money

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Safety, Style

I began driving this time last year and my first car was and still is a Fiat Punto 1.2 S, T-reg 1999, 3 doors. For a student such as myself, I would say that it is an ideal first car to have and I have thoroughly enjoyed driving it. It is not lightning quick and insurance is cheap! Obviously because of the age of my car, it is not going to set the world on fire, but I have been very pleased with it so far. I paid £750 for it from an auction and two years previously it had been bought for £4,200! Luckily for me, it has so far been very reliable and I hope that it will last me until next year ... more
