Advantages: Nice to drive, a good first car Disadvantages: Depreciates quicker than an X Factor winner
...dubious pleasure of using a Fiat Punto as a courtesy car. While not a like for like replacement for our car, as there was no one else to blame for my situation I had little option but to accept the car offered or hire another at my own expense.
The model I have received is the three door 1.2 Active Sport. On an 05 plate with just over 20,000 on the clock my initial reservations have been reversed by what has turned out to be a very pleasant car ... ...is an improvement over the Fiat badge of the early nineties. My model comes with steel wheels and lacks hub caps but with a nice set of alloys or even good quality 'caps in place I think this would look pretty good.
The car feels solidly built; doors open without any creaking or hanging and close with a satisfying 'thunk'. There are no disturbing noises when driving and it feels as sturdy as the German and Japanese cars I've had recently.

Advantages: Great Looks, Low Tax, Cheap Insurance Disadvantages: Ride Hieght, Slight Roll On Cornering
Having recently handed my little Saxo over to my little sister for her lessons and run around. Its time to look for a new car, So I came accross a really nice "Fiat Punto Active Sport 1.2i 8v". Read below to find my opinion of this car so far.......
Performance~ This car is awesome on petrol, Obviously depending on the way its driven its averagin about 48ish MPG. ALthough not as responsive as the saxo was and requires higher revs in lower gears ... ...and suspension set up as the car feels very high, and also as if it is going to roll when taking corners at speed.
Exterior~
The Active Sport variant of the Punto is in one word "sexy", Its got curves, and straight lines in all the right place. Again a slight draw back is the gap between the top of the wheels and the botton of the wheel arch, but thats nothing that cant be sorted with a good set of lowering springs. The standard Active sport definately ...

Advantages: Small Outside, Large Inside, Fun and Low Cost! Disadvantages: Handling on windy day is awful.
...Tax paid for me by Fiat for one year, not sure whether or not this was a deal, but always ask the dealer when purchasing. It can't hurt to ask, spending £7000 on a car, tax is nothing to them. However, if not, due to the carbon emissions, the car tax is only £110 a year, less than £10 per month. Worth the while.
As for fuel consumption, i do about 24 miles to work and back for 5 days a week and can get by on £10 of petrol. It usually runs around ... ...car handling is relatively good, can easily travel within cities, but can handle the speed of motorways. However, one concern is how lightweight the car is......driving along on a windy day certainly takes the wind out of your sails. you spend more time trying to control the car than enjoying the driving experience.
I absolutley love my little car, i think it can give any small car a run for its money on space, reliability and performance. It may ...

Advantages: Great looks.. fuel economy.. Sporty interior, value Disadvantages: A bit guttless for overtaking..stiffish ride
A stylish, modern looking car with great looking sporty interior. Firm, comfortable bucket seats.Suprisingly spacious for a small car with loads of storage nooks and crannies in doors and dash. This model comes with a nice set of alloys but metallic paint is £295 extra but worth it.Great sounding 6 speaker cassette radio system (cd cost £150 extra).
The 1.2litre 8 valve is willing, but lacks oomph for overtaking. Nevertheless it will zip along at 80mph ... ...driven Citroen's with 'magic carpet'ride I find the ride of the Punto a little stiff..you feel the bumps in the road when present. You dont get a spare wheel with this car...you get a puncture repair kit !!!!...not keen on that at all.It has won saftey awards for its class..thats important!! side impact bars and twin airbags..good stuff. You can also turn off the passenger airbag if you have a child/baby in front seat. Overall..I am impressed...so ...

Advantages: Cheap, economical Disadvantages: Servicing expensive, noisy, lightweight and problematic
My last car was a Fiat Punto 1.2 8v active, a 53 reg. I bought it brand new, as I wanted to have a brand spanking new car for once, rather than inherit someone elses problems.
The car was excellent initially, very cheap to run, nippy in the city, and to be honest, extremely reliable. The interior was plush yet basic, with electric windows and a fairly nice dash set out.
I then took a job which involved a 60 mile round trip every day, and this is ... ...you have to stick with Fiat to keep the warranty, and you may find that many parts aren't actually covered on the warranty, as I did. You will also find it extremely hard to book the car in for anything on the warranty, yet if you want a service, or non warranty job, they can fit you in straight away - funny that!
I would definitely recommend the punto as a town car, but if you intend doing any serious mileage journeys, I would forget it. ...

Advantages: bags of space, good mpg, quiet runner Disadvantages: cheap audio system,
i've been driving one of the new shape puntos for just over a year now, I mainly use it to drive to college and back, but I have drove it from the north west down to norfolk and back and didn't have any problems what so ever, infact I havent had any problems with the workings at all other than the air bag warning light keeps coming on, which basically means you have to phone up you're nearest dealer and get it all reset which is a bit of a hassel.
... ...height and lumbar adjust as well as the standard seat angle adjustment which goes totally flat thats right i've even slept in my punto haha, the rest of the interior is a bit bland surrounded by masses of grey plastic, but at night everything glows a lovely amber.
controls wise the electric windows control has been placed in the middle of the dash under the stereo, which does stop you fumbleing around like in most cars where the controls are next ...

Advantages: A small, low cost, but zippy car which is also reliable and easy to fix Disadvantages: A difficult car to drive
I recently purchased a Fiat Punto 1.2 Dynamic (5 door) straight from the dealers (Rockingham Motors, Northants). The Fiat website was exceedingly useful and allowed me to email the dealers to arrange a test drive.
In short the car was excellent: at a cost of £3300 for a 52 plate with only 42,000 miles on the clock and 6 months warranty. The car's benefits by far out weigh the negatives which I have seen and been told by friends (i.e. not reliable, ... ...but I have been informed by passengers that in the back it is not so good.
It is excellent for short journey's for both comfort and fuel efficiency (even though I had some issues opening the petrol cap). Longer journey's it guzzles petrol but I expected that with such a small engine. For me, I needed a reliable car that could have some 'oomph' overtaking on motorways and accelerating from slip roads. The boot size is good and I can fit 2 golf bags ...

Advantages: Cheap to run, stylish, comfortable. Disadvantages: Hot if you don't opt for air conditioning.
Stylish and cheap - what more could you want?!
Answer: Air Conditioning
Cheap tax, cheap insurance, good fuel economy. The handling is reasonable for a 'run-of the-mill' car. Easy to drive, comfortable and looks stylish.
It's a small car but fold the back seats down and take the shelf out and there's bags of space, not to mention a reasonable amount of leg room for your rear seat passengers.
But! For Heaven's sake - get one with air conditioning. ... ...go somwhere hot - come for a trip with me and the missus to the shops. The 1.2 engine is no beast but it's reasonable and economical. You can pick up some real bargains too - as little as £1500 for a stylish car, just over 5yrs old - bargain! Easy to maintain but above all cheap all round! Fantastic! ...

...Citroen AX with a new Fiat Punto Active 1.2 and I am absolutely delighted with it. It is increadably easy to drive and to park. It has plenty of power or at least more than enough to pull away at roundabouts and junctions. It feels very solid on the road. I can even fit a whole bag of golf clubs and a trolley. I am absolutely delighted with my car and if you want value for money, I think, you will be pushed to find a better ...

I currently have a 2004 Fiat Punto active sport 8v.
Its a nice car to look at and thats about it.
the acceleration is slow, top speed - depending on how heavy you are. about 90-100, but sayin that i did have 105 down a very steep hill on the motorway.
Any way ive had non stop problems with this car ranging from hole in the exhaust to a gearbox ceasure. the fuel ecconomy isnt as good as people say - my old rusty van does more mpg. To get full handling ... ...or you will just slide round corners over 15mph.

Advantages: Cheap runaround, Good MPG Disadvantages: Cheap car, poor service from Fiat
I got my Fiat Punto 1.2 8v Active just under one year ago. At the time I loved the way the car looked and it was a nearly new car for next to nothing. Over the last year I have had many problems from water pumps to suspension problems. Because the car is still under warranty, most problems were fixed by Fiat with about two weeks waiting for a slot in there busy schedule. One time I took it in for about five or six diffrent things. They had the car ... ...problems were still there! When I rang Fiat and told them they said they could book me in next week! and it would be in from 9am till 4pm! The horn on it has been fixed twice and is now not working again! Poor car, Poor service.

Advantages: Great Fuel Consumption Disadvantages: Doesn't come with added Va Va Voom
I have had my Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active for nearly two years now and the first thing that I must say about it is, that it is still running as well today as it did when I bought it brand new. I have not had any major problems with it whatsoever, the only thing that I have had replaced is the front brake pads, which was inexpensive anyway. The car is very easy to drive and steering into tight parking spaces or in and around the city is made even easier ... ...best thing however about the Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active is the fuel consumption, it is terrific. To put it into simple terms you will get approximately 350 miles for £35. This represents great value, and combined with the low rate insurance premiums, makes it a low cost car to run compared with others on the market. The down side to the car is that although a nippy number it is not overly powerful and does not pack the punch that a car with a larger ...
