I remember when...

Advantages: Cheap, Fun to drive, Classic design, Build Quality, reliable
Disadvantages: Safety, lack of mod-cons (no power steering etc)

...is fantastic. Reliability… When Fiat came to build their new supermini, they followed the unlikely approach of choosing to build it in the deep south of rural Italy in the town of Foggia near Bari. This was quite an audacious plan for the simple reason that it was five hundred miles away from the Fiat home of Turin and the fact that the local population were more used to growing olives than CNC technology. Fiat made this work by first getting huge ...
...build production centres near the Fiat plant and then would have to supply whole sub-assemblies rather than individual components. Coupled with the latest in robotic assembly technology this resulted in an extremely reliable little car from the start of production meaning that you can buy a cheap L- or M-reg car with nearly as much confidence as later models. Build Quality… Due to the highly accurate assembly processes, the Punto was put together ...

Punto is very capable

Advantages: Does everything well
Disadvantages: Not a lot really

...and Puntos usually escape the Fiat electrical reliability problems of old. There`s plenty of space, something that the Punto has always been complemented for and the seats are comfortable. All controls are simple and work well too. In fact, there`s quite simply not a lot wrong with the Punto in 3 or 5 door form - it will do its job well which is probably why prices held up so well after its release - even the oldest ones will probably not be worth ...

The truth behind the Fiat Punto

Advantages: cheap to buy, low tax threshold, fun little car
Disadvantages: electrics can be dodgy, lights sometimes have trouble

I bought a Fiat Punto from my mother roughly 4 years ago. It is a 1.1 55S and is a lovely turquise colour (a typical girl car really!). Considering the size of the engine it has quite a lot of power. You will never be able to take on a Ferrari but hey! it does the job. It is an attractive little car and is great if you have kids because the seatbelts are made that bit longer apparently to help with the car seats. This maybe helpful to the mums out ...
...great advantage to me. The boot seems to fit in the weekend baggage and the weekly shop down to Sainsburys! and the seats fold down in case you have a love for Ikea and want to fit in loads of their trendy stuff :) I have to say that for the first 1 1/2 years I was very chuffed with my new little car. It is good and comfortable on long journeys and very nippy for trips around town. But then..... I started having trouble with the lights at the ...

Advantages: Responsive handling, good grip, pleasant to drive.
Disadvantages: A little short on power.

...owner of a '94 L-Reg Fiat Punto you one year, I have been consistently delighted with the quality of ride, handling and reliability it has given me. Having heard dubious things about the durability of Fiats in general, I had initial misgivings about owning a Punto. But having run the car for twelve months I am now satisfied that these rumours are largely untrue. The handling is generally very good and not particularly tough on the tyres, though there ...

My first Car

Advantages: Low Insurace. Low usage of Petrol. Relaiable
Disadvantages: Small. soft body

...small and should not be Fiat Punto, since I had heard alot of bad stories about it. Anyway as cars kept on passing through, I saw this black Punto. The looks of it was great for the price, in fact I thought it was a bargain. So I raised my hand and bought the car for the price of 575.00 Pouns. After paying the administration fees it totaled to 675.00 Pounds(my pound sign does not work). My Fiat Punto at the time of the buy was on 48000.00 miles, ...
...A Driving after a long time, especially alone in the car was a bit scary, but I managed. I took the car to a mechanic near my house, he did the M.O.T test and said that it was a fine car. But it needed few repairs and replacement of cetain things. As you can see I am not a car expert. Anyway all the expenses including the price of the car came to a total of 1000.00 pounds, which was still well below my budget. After few weeks I got the Log book, ...

Do not buy a Punto

Advantages: They look nice
Disadvantages: Lots of common faults

I am going to get straight to the point, do not buy a punto 55s, I owned one for only 1 month and that was plenty enough. Upon buying the car it looked the sort of car that has good street cred for a young lad but, don’t get me wrong these cars do look very nice and as long as you get a good one could last you well. The one I bought only had 53,000 miles on the clock so I thought it would be alright, I found out later that it wasn’t 53,000 miles ...
...clock and the rev counter had both stopped working. It drove well for a good 50 miles and then I started to experience the problems, the car stated to judder a lot and sounded awful. I had this checked by the garage and found out that the Lambda sensor was on its way out, the garage also told me this is a common fault with all puntos and that another common fault was that the head always goes after so many miles due to it being a alloy head and ...

White Punto 55s

Advantages: Cheap Tax, Cheap Insurance, Good First Car
Disadvantages: Lack of MOD Cons, Getting Old

This is a very reliable, cheap hatchback. I had one for my first ever car and still do own it. Fiats are known for rusting. Mine has rusted quite badly and needs welding for it's next M.O.T, Check everywhere for rust, especially under the floor! They are ideal first cars because of the low insurance group and low tax bracket. Quite robust and will take almost anything a learner driver or inexperienced driver can throw at them. Being an old car, ...

Punto 55 S

Advantages: quick and niffty; cheap tax; petrol consumtion is good
Disadvantages: difficult to unlock doors; horn doesn't work

I bought an 'M' reg Punto 55 S seven months ago for £995 in a very girly pinky red colour. I absolutely love this car. It's a great little car for a young driver. It's niffty, has low tax and the petol consumtion is very, very good. I can get 350 miles to a full tank - I'm no car expert, but I think that's good and it saves the average poor student money. However, once the cold weather arrived, I started having problems. The door locks froze up and ...
...spray of WD40 eventually sorted out that problem. The horn also did not work, but that was quickly and cheaply fixed after a visit to my local garage. The Punto is very spaciousness. I can fit three grown adults in the back as well as a dog in the boot, and she still goes at a reasonable speed on the motorway. In all, my little Punto is fantastic. She gets me from A to B without breaking down and I would really recommend this car to a young driver. ...

I Loved This Car.. Once

Advantages: Cheap, Small, Ideal First Car, Easily Modded, Low Insurance, Low Tax, Fun To Drive
Disadvantages: Unreliable, Breaks Easily, Lights Fail Frequently, Unsafe, No Extras

...to use. I found the FIat Punto and bought it for only £1100 with alloys, rear speakers and a few extras. Upon first using it i was very pleased with how it was running and had no problems. But once the problems start they don't stop! Lights are the biggest issue I have with this car, with the headlights failing me on numerous occasions with faulty wiring. Also the brake lights stopped working unbeknown to me which was incredibly dangerous! Other ...
...the passenger door and also the clutch went and cost me £300!! Mine seems to have a bit of an overheating problem aswell not sure if others do. But if you want a cheap and easy to run car that isnt frequently used I would probably recommend it. But keep some money saved for the problems, trust me you WILL need it! Also my car has been broken into incredibly easily! Apparently they are the easiest cars to break into so watch out for this! ...

Performance Punto

Advantages: Cheap Tax, Insurance and fuel cost. Nippy and great handling.
Disadvantages: Dodgy Electrics, Lacks Power top end.

I have had a punto for a while now, brought it second hand for just over 200, and is better than most cars in its catergory that are more pricey. For such a small engine it is powerful, possibly the most powerful 1.1 i have come across and handles fairly well. Due to the small engine its fuel consumption is very low and is cheap on tax and insurance, meaning its an overall cheap to run car. It looks smart and you get alot of car for your money. The ...

It is very spacious inside and has an advantage of a big boot, good for the shopping or luggage. All in all its a great car for the money, ...

Good enough for a first car

Advantages: Great for people who have just passed
Disadvantages: Small amount of room in the back seats, dodgy engine and cooler

I have had my black S reg Punto for about 1 year now. It is a great first car if you had just passed your test as its quick and nimble. BUT you have to look after it as looking after the water is a must as these cars are very fragile when it comes to the engine and keepng the car cool. But as I said its a first time car so you wont be expecting a lot, especially as it will cost around £1,000 depending where you look. There is a adequate amount of ...

...some good points on the Fiat Punto but not many. Firstly its cheap to insure, tax and quite cheap to run. I brought my Punto from a Fiat dealer with 12 months mot and after a few weeks things started to go wrong. I had to pay 500 pound for a new gearbox.the steering lock locked up completely and had to have a new coloumn put in for a healthy 200 pound. small dents appeared on the doors as the body is made of thin , cheap metal. I had many oil leaks ...

My second Punto. 1995ish 55 s

Advantages: Cheap to run, looks good
Disadvantages: A mulitude of niggly problems

This was my second car and my second punto as well. I down graded from a 98 punto 60 s to this 1995ish punto 55 s for reasons which escape me now but I can only think that it had somthing to do with this being a black car which looked way cooler than the redish colour one! The drive was extremely fun, for some reason the steering was much lighter in this car than the new punto 60 s. As for comfort inside the car as the drive it was comfortable but ...
...became uncomfortable in the back with 4 people in the car, or so they told me as I only ever sat in the drivers seat! It is a very basic car with no gadgets at all but this can easily be seen as a good point because there is less to go wrong. I was unlucky with this punto in terms of reliabilty but that could have had somthing to do with the fact that it had 114,000 miles on the clock. I did not have this car long as it was going to need new shock ...

5dr Punto!

Advantages: Cheap, Many Mod's, Cheap Tax + Insurance
Disadvantages: Poor Looks, Not many standard extra's

My first car was a 5 door blue punto which served me well. Despite people writing about reliability problems i only ever had one problem with the beast which was the slave cylinder on the clutch dis owning me one day but this was an easy problem to fix. The very basis of the car i feel is used still in cars which are produced today for example the rear lights look suspicsiously like the new Focus lights. From the point of it breaking i decided ...
