Advantages: A fresh perspective, some good pictures Disadvantages: Quite small, biassed towards US and Caribbean
My first reaction on receiving this book in the post was surprise - I thought it would be much bigger than it is. The websites left me imagining a coffee-table book; it could be, but doesn't have the breadth of pictures that many do and is a lot smaller than most. What it does have is a lot of ideas, some more original than others.
The book is fairly square-shaped - basically the width is the same as an A4 book, it's just a lot shorter. It's not ... ...number of decent pictures. Most of the individual reviews are 3-5 pages long, with one illustration - but some have none.
The format of this book is that it's 50 reviews of places by individual writers, rather than all written by the same author. It forms part of a series of "50 best", all edited by Chris Santella. As such, it has the potential to fall down due to a (?) non-diving editor, but the reviews are done by interview with individual divers, ...
